Marc Ambinder:
In response to Gov. Sarah Palin's invocation of Barack Obama's "terrorist" "pal" William Ayers, Democrats have settled on a rhetorical response that inquires, innocently enough, whether Todd Palin's association with anti-American secessionists is fair game, especially in light of Palin's charge that Obama "is not a man who sees America as you and I do."Yes. Yes. Yes. Via TPM Election Central:
Todd Palin, a former member of the Alaska Independence Party, might well have seen America unlike his wife did -- that is, an America that one can secede from. He was comfortable belonging to and being associated with a political party whose founder seemed to delight in denouncing the principles that hold our union together. [...]
Conservative groups have spent more than ten million dollars on ads tying Obama to Ayers, and so far, Americans don't seem to give a heck. (This tells us what about how we're going to make that mortgage payment?)
Maybe Palin's willingness to go there changes all that.
As Ambinder says in his piece, Obama wasn't influenced by Ayers, someone he barely knew, but IWRC* eats, drinks, and sleeps with Todd. He influences her daily, in ways that I don't even want to think about. I hope there's more where this came from, Team Obama.McCain apologists will argue that Sarah Palin was not a member of this group. But Obama wasn't a member of any Ayers anti-American group, either. And again, Palin repeatedly courted the AIP, and her husband was a member for years.
The main takeaway from today's Times story is that Obama's ties to Ayers are, if anything, less substantial than commonly alleged. So if the Ayers association means Obama "palled around" with "terrorists," as Palin put it today, surely Palin can be said to have "palled around" with a secessionist party whose founder openly professed hatred of America.
If Palin is going to directly question Obama's patriotism over his association Ayers, surely all these facts are now fair game and freshly relevant.

SIDEBAR, UPDATE:
Gov. Sarah Palin's going to visit Omaha tomorrow night, the local paper reports.UPDATE #2:
Remember, Obama's campaign wants -- and thinks it can get -- the electoral vote that NE allocates.
Gov. Sarah Palin's husband is planning to speak to an investigator looking into abuse-of-power allegations against the governor, Todd Palin's lawyer said Saturday. He previously refused to testify under subpoena in a separate probe. Attorney Thomas Van Flein said he asked the investigator, Anchorage attorney Timothy Petumenos, to reserve the third week of October to interview Todd Palin, but a date has not been set because he is waiting to hear back from Petumenos. [...]
The two investigators could interview Todd Palin together or Branchflower could use Petumenos' interview in his own investigation, Van Flein said, though Branchflower is scheduled to end his probe at least a week before the planned interview.

GObama!!!!
Damn, good point team Obama!
Hey, Ice Queen needs to stay away from Omaha too! Actually, in one specific district in that city they split electoral votes in some manner, and the Obama campaign is determined to get at least ONE vote outta there...Ice Queen is going to try to prevent that, I suppose.
(And now a little secret--I lived in Omaha, NE for a year, that's the only reason I know that shit. Shhh).
But... but... your accent sounds...
I'm from Ohio, but I lived in Omaha, NE before movin' on down to SC...my accent is all screwed up. So, shhhh....
I won't say a word.
But, but, she is a Republican!
Haha I didn't see your comment a couple above mine Laffy until now :)
: )
So, we won't know if Ice Queen is an abuser of power until the third week in October?
Do people really need to investigate that? I say she is...
And BTW, when is her daughter marrying that redneck guy? Let me guess: 4th week in October?
Ady of NE, the report is supposed to come out by October 10th, interview aside. I have to assume that's still the case. : )
And... I read that they're planning a summer wedding. Well, that's what they're telling the press, anyway.
But, but it won't be very proper for that youngun to be born out of wedlock will it?
And that would be: Ady who was of NE
Hehheee, noooooo. Ady of NE. I get to tease you about that now.
Yes. It means the worst. She has sinned. But remember, that's a good thing now. Because Bristol did it, so it's admirable and we should all encourage the culture of life by counseling our daughters to get pregnant in their teens, married or not.
I read summer wedding, too. Good, thank heavens. Maybe the pregnancy mindfuck will be cleared out of her system by then and she'll be able to think clearly. (or what passes for clearly with 18 year old women)
The idea of the McIck campaign using her wedding for political advantage turned my stomach.
The very thought of Grammps turns mine. As well as the very thought of IWRC et al.
Oh...and YEAH. It's about fucking time someone on Obama's camp talked about Toddie's AIP connection. From what I can tell, he has a lot of influence over Sarah Lou - partners in governing, if you will - and as much as I don't want Sarah at the helm, being copiloted by Todd scares me even more.
Well, I sinned too, but I did the proper thing--got married and then promptly separated when my son was only 8 weeks old, then later divorced. And dammit, it was the right and best thing to do too! Can't y'all see that? It was proper!
In fact, it was just like a GD fairy tale...yessir! No, I am NOT bitter.
Ah, yes. Toddy's political affiliation is about as Pay-tree-o-ticklish Amurkinism as those good ol' boys who hang Confederate flags off the porch.
And of course, he'd be willing to talk to an investigator the week AFTER Branchflower plans to release his report. Todd will also gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. Feh.
The shotgun wedding? Well, they've made noises about having a White House wedding. Or maybe they'll try to have it as soon after Bristol's 18th birthday as they can squeeze it in before the election (to mess up a week's news-cycle, according to a strategist). Of course, if the McCoconut/Paliban campaign tanks, there probably won't be ANY wedding. Levi will just move to the lower 48 -- really fast.
Regarding Nebraska from 538-
"if the McCain campaign is defending Omaha rather than spending time in Michigan, there is no bluffing going on -- McCain is holding on for dear life at this stage."
I don't think there is going to be a wedding. I think Levi is a prop. And if they don't want to get married, I hope they don't. Poor kids are both being used as props even if they do want to marry.
Besides the Palins' association with a group that wants Alaska to break away from the Union, there are a few more to add to the list of the response to Palin's accusation of Obama "palling" with Ayers:
Cindy McCain is associated with terrorism in Darfur, Sudan. Cindy held $2 million in investment funds owning shares of Sudan-linked companies, thus she supported terrorism in Darfur. His wife's "funds had ties to the Sudanese regime, which has armed and supported militias considered responsible for killing, raping and torturing hundreds of thousands of civilians in the country's Darfur region" (quoted from ABC). In an effort to quickly suppress her association with terrorist genocide, she sold those holdings only after a reporter's inquiries.
Contrary to what she claimed in the debate, Palin killed a bill that protested atrocities in Darfur, Sudan, which means she celebrated terrorist genocide in Darfur (see ABC: http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=5948944&page=1.
Among many McCain's Ayers, G. Gordon Liddy stands out most: He "spent more than 4 years in prison for his role in the 1972 Watergate burglary. That was just one element of what Liddy did, and proposed to do, in a secret White House effort to subvert the Constitution. Far from repudiating him, McCain has embraced him" (For full story, see http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/chi-oped0504chapmanmay04,0,6061828.column
Palin has committed another act of terrorism that her son is involved in ethnic cleansing of Sunnis in Iraq, thus helping to embolden Shia Iraq and, by default, Ahmadinejad's regime in Shia Iran.
Republican party's foreign policy platform is about state sponsorship of unilateral military terrorism around the globe against whoever disagrees with their conservative fanaticism, Nazism, deregulated Capitalism, and Evangelism.
Spread this everywhere by copying and pasting.
I was hoping this would be their response.
If there's anything anti-American about any of the candidates it's Sarah Palin's "First Dude."
You are all nuts. You liberal idiots would defend unmarried pregnancy to the grave if the pregnant daughter was Obama's and you know it. How hypocritical and typical? I'd take Palin in office long before a radical, muslim loving black from Chicago. Anybody who calls Rev. Wright his uncle when RW is a proud, Black Muslim activist (Black Liberation proponent) should be a wake up call for every American. How in the world did we get to this sorry state in our Country.
By electing arrogant figurehead morons like Reagan, Bush and Bush, and fascist, insecure, secretive assholes like Nixon and Cheney, that's how.
Sarah Palin spent years sleeping with an unpatriotic, no, anti-American "dude" who is about to testify about her abuse of power. Nice candidate.
"I can see Russia from my house!"
I wish you liberals would do your friggen research before you cheer behind absolute stupidity.
First, you need to look up The Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act of 2007 (Akaka Bill) that would have led the way for Hawaii to achieve secession through the formation of its own government which would be detached from that of the U.S. This is NEARLY IDENTICAL to what the Alaskan Independence Party wants - self governance with close ties to the United States (much like a territory).
Can you nimrods name two U.S. Senators who VOTED FOR the Akaka Bill?
Sen. Barack Obama (D)
Sen. Joe Biden (D)
As for Todd Palin being a "secessionist", I find that amazingly laughable as even the Chairwoman of the AIP wrote a formal clarification letter stating that Todd Palin attended ONE meeting of record in the fives years he was registered member and NEVER voted for anything related to party decisions. Of course, we all know that Sarah Palin has been a life-long Republican.
After Todd Palin's five years as an unparticipating party member (1995-2000), he became (and still is) an "undeclared" voter.
You know, when I joined the Sierra Club and Green Peace when I was younger, but that doesn't mean I would block drilling for oil or risk my friends and family buy steering my boat in front of tanker ships with them on it. Today, I am a moderate Republican, but that doesn't mean I believe in 100% of what the majority of conservatives believe in.
That being said, the platform of the AIP is that they want people people to be aware that Alaska was never properly voted into the union, and thus, the AIP feels that it should have been up the people of Alaska to determine whether or not they should be absorbed into the union or remain a territory (or their own country).
Their argument is perfectly legit whether you agree with it or not.
AS FOR CINDY MCCAIN SUPPORTING TERRORISTS....
What a friggen joke! Cindy McCain had $2 million in a MUTUAL FUND that invested in Dufar. She divested herself out of it as did....get ready for it....
SEN. BARACK OBAMA
From the Washington Post:
"Cindy McCain's decision to sell the investments come after several other presidential candidates, including Democrat Barack Obama, last year chose to divest of Sudan-related stocks and mutual funds. Her investments in the mutual funds are listed on disclosure forms McCain is required to file as a senator and candidate."
Maybe you should try reading their Website to understand someone else's point of view instead of living your brainwashed Obamabot life.
I swear, you libertards are nothing but lemmings who believe whatever you see, hear and read without doing any of your investigating. For once, TRY to learn something for yourselves instead of just drinking the Kool-Aid and then accusing anyone who doesn't agree with you as arguing from the Rove playbook.
This blog is just another example of why I left the Democrat party. Sad so many of you lemmings exist within the party. The era of Kennedy dems is gone and replaced by whiners. Sad.
