VIDEO: Chuck Todd's arguments against investigations of Bush torture crimes

By GottaLaff

Chuck Todd/Morning Joe video (relevant segment begins at 2:15):

Please read this piece by Glenn Greenwald . I won't do it the injustice of butchering it and posting a few excerpts, because Greenwald's responses need to be read in full:
Chuck Todd's arguments against investigations
When you're done, please come back and comment. I'd be interested in your reaction.

All my previous posts on this subject matter can be found here; That link includes audio and video interviews with Lt. Col. Wingard, one by David Shuster, one by Ana Marie Cox, and more. My guest commentary at BuzzFlash is here.

If you are inclined to help rectify these injustices: Twitterers, use the hashtag #FreeFayiz. We have organized a team to get these stories out. If you are interested in helping Fayiz out, e-mail me at The Political Carnival, address in sidebar to the right; or tweet me at @GottaLaff.

If you'd like to see other ways you can take action, go here and scroll down to the end of the article.

Then read Jane Mayer's book The Dark Side. You'll have a much greater understanding of why I post endlessly about this, and why I'm all over the CIA deception issues, too.

Todd is a tool. That's what I think. I'm interested in hearing him defend his actions on the podcast.

As for the investigation. . . politically, it's far better for Obama to be seen as against it while Holder goes ahead to appoint a special prosecutor anyway. It gives him some cover, while at the same time (hopefully) some progress is made on the torture front.

It's perhaps noble that you are trying so hard to humanize the victims (or, one of them), but I am not confident that it is either effecting or possible, given the present state of the mainstream media and American social and cultural attitudes towards "those people."

Great comment, Clancy.

I'm not giving up, and we have had an impact that you're not seeing. Many papers around the countries are picking up Barry's op-eds, and there's more radio/TV coverage coming.

He's constantly telling me, it's a marathon, not a sprint. He's very optimistic and told me I've already made a difference.

If that's the extent of it, then I feel I've accomplished more than I could ever imagine.

If it goes further than that, then a dream of mine will have been realized: To expose and help to compensate (somewhat) for gross injustices.

I guess I can agree with you on the marathon/sprint analogy. Also, humanizing the victims will likely do more to keep this from ever happening again than any criminal investigation in to memos could ever do.

I read Greenwalds piece. I like Todd and think he is doing the bidding of the MSNBC organization when he mis-spoke about the urgency to investigate. He is also motivated by the favorable ass licking he's able to give the administration who appears to tacitly dismiss the need for a special prosecutor.

But that's not what we pay the DOJ to do. And Todd's motivations hardly speak for the legitimacy of this country. The facts remain, these are public servants working to hide or dissemble what the tax payers have asked to go pay for.

We MUST have a non-partisan investigation of what was done in our names. Our children will be saddled with the cost of their crimes. We owe it to the children.

Why don't they ever think of the children? *snark*

Clancy, that's my motivation exactly.

The world needs to see America up against the rabble that set this in motion. If it was Obama driving it solely it would wind up being played as mean spirited. If the DOJ goes after criminals and prosecutes them fully, this will speak volumes to the world that there is justice in our country. We've lost so much that when Irianians are captured for protesting they are comparing their treatment to being held by Americans. This is what the previous administration handed out. DOJ can change the perseption.

I agree with Fernando. And I do too like Chuck Todd but feel he is slowly morphing into David Gregory.

There really should be no debate on this issue. For those of us who has been on top of this for years reading and investigating the corruption of a rogue government within the government coming out of the Vice President’s office is nothing shocking. But mainstream is not aware of this. To them we are conspirators.

If these people are permitted to get away with these kind of high crimes committed against the Constitution and the American people then they will one day get into power again sooner than later. Chuck Todd is in a comfort zone and he can afford to put shudders on his conscious.

Hmmm.... Maybe I'm on the right blog as I find plenty with which to agree in all posts in this thread...

1) I like Todd who IS doing MSNBC's bidding and IS becoming David Gregory.

2) Obama SHOULD be investigating torture but does need political cover.

3) Etc.

Cumbaya, folks, cumbaya.
