Tea Bagger mom readies her children for "Obamas tomorrow"... with guns

By GottaLaff

What a great mom:

There's nothing more patriotic than teaching your kids how to shoot a president. Or does "Obamas" mean his whole family? Maybe she was referring to future Obamas, meaning, what? Future black presidents?

Add her to the list of violent Tea Bagger gun crazies who hide behind the flag.

Child abuse isn't part of that "Family Values" thing, Mom. And IMHO, training your kids to use firearms specifically to ready them for "Obamas tomorrow" is child abuse. Be proud.

VIDEO- Rep. Louie Gohmert lies at tea party rally: "I brought an abortion to show you"

By GottaLaff

Louie's a real case study in nutballitude. He just can't seem to grasp that thing called.. oh, what's that word... Oh yes: reality. (follow that link)

Here he goes again. A video-o'-wackydoodle. However, little does he refer to the fact that:

[T]he bill “very clearly” does not fund abortion. [...] The bill creates a clear firewall between public and private money, going even beyond current law. Moreover, pro-life organizations like the Catholic Hospitals Association have endorsed the bill, and pro-life Congressmen like Rep. Dale Kildee (D-MI) and Rep. Jason Altmire (D-PA) agree that the bill does not use tax-payer dollars to fund abortion.
Louie was right. He did bring an abortion to show them. He brought an abortion of the truth, thus having committed the very act he so condemns.

Which makes him today's official Rushpublic Hyp. O. Crite.

Texas Approves Curriculum Revised by Conservatives

By GottaLaff

Now children, let's go back and review what we've been missing:

Men rode dinosaurs so that they could hunt better. And besides, they made great companions when the wife was busy birthing cavedwellerettes.

There is no such thing as separation of church and state. That's a crazy myth that some Marxist commie made up.

Always use your position to exploit and indoctrinate children, and then accuse the first African American president of doing the same when he's encouraging good work habits and responsibility:

After three days of turbulent meetings, the Texas Board of Education on Friday voted to approve a social studies curriculum that will put a conservative stamp on history and economics textbooks, stressing the role of Christianity in American history and presenting Republican political philosophies in a more positive light.

The vote was 11 to 4, with 10 Republicans and one Democrat voting for the curriculum, and four Democrats voting against.

And children, above all else, be fair and balanced:

The board, whose members are elected, has influence beyond Texas because the state is one of the largest purchasers of textbooks.

Remember children: The whole church and state thing? Pffft!

The conservative members maintain that they are trying to correct what they see as a liberal bias among the teachers who proposed the curriculum. To that end, they made dozens of minor changes aimed at calling into question, among other things, concepts like the separation of church and state and the secular nature of the American Revolution.

I reject the notion by the left of a constitutional separation of church and state,” said David Bradley, a conservative from Beaumont who works in real estate. “I have $1,000 for the charity of your choice if you can find it in the Constitution.”

Bias? What bias?

They also included a plank to ensure that students learn about “the conservative resurgence of the 1980s and 1990s, including Phyllis Schalfly, the Contract With America, the Heritage Foundation, the Moral Majority and the National Rifle Association.”

To be fair, the Black Panthers and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s "nonviolent approach" will get some print space, too. That's some concession, huh?

Today's lesson: Little children asked, and received, their own little raptors for their birthdays. And if they were extra special good, pet nanshiungosauruseseseses... eseses...es.

Sunday's lesson: Jesus had dinosaur stables back when saddling up a brontosaurus was in vogue. He loaned his herd out to anyone who needed a ride to the nearest crucifixion. He was socialistic that way.

Conservatives try to suspend California's global-warming law

By GottaLaff

I cannot fathom how these people can be so shortsighted. It's beyond comprehension. Do they not realize that all that money they'd supposedly save won't do anyone any good if nobody is around to spend it?
Republican politicians and conservative activists are launching a ballot campaign to suspend California's landmark global-warming law, in what they hope will serve as a showcase for a national backlash against climate regulations.

Supporters say they have "solid commitments" of nearly $600,000 to pay signature gatherers for a November initiative aimed at delaying curbs on the greenhouse gas emissions of power plants and factories until the state's unemployment rate drops.

GOP gubernatorial candidates and Tea Party organizers paint the 2006 law, considered a model for other state and federal efforts, as a job-killing interference in the economy. Talk radio is flailing at what John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou, drive-time hosts on Los Angeles' KFI-AM (640), call "the global-warming final solution act" promoted by "fascist, Nazi" officials.

"We are on fire," said Assemblyman Dan Logue (R-Marysville), a sponsor of the proposed initiative. "People are calling from all over the country. This will be the most intense campaign the state has seen in 50 years."

"We are on fire." Hey Dan Logue, so is the planet.

The measure would halt proposed regulations until the state's jobless rate dips to 5.5% or below for a year. That's a level that California has not seen since 2007.

This is mind-achingly stupid. California's habit of governing via ballot initiative needs to be broken. Schwarzenegger* is proof of that.

*To be fair, he's fighting this campaign. I'll give him that.

Quickie: GOP hysteria in a nutshell

By GottaLaff

Today's Quickie:
Thom Hartmann on the Radio Machine just now, commenting on the Rushpublic hysteria over the news that some of the 9/11 suspects will be tried in the U.S. court system:

"They're hysterical because a criminal is going to show up in criminal court and get the death penalty."
Period.

That was today's Quickie. Was it good for you?

Newsmax: Military coup "to resolve the 'Obama problem' " is not "unrealistic"

By GottaLaff

http://uppitynegronetwork.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/right-wing-nut.jpg

What was that again about how Rushpublics aren't violent (hint: A military coup is not non-violent)?

From John L. Perry's September 29 Newsmax column:

There is a remote, although gaining, possibility America's military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the "Obama problem." Don't dismiss it as unrealistic.

America isn't the Third World. If a military coup does occur here it will be civilized. That it has never happened doesn't mean it wont. Describing what may be afoot is not to advocate it.

[...]

Military intervention is what Obama's exponentially accelerating agenda for "fundamental change" toward a Marxist state is inviting upon America. A coup is not an ideal option, but Obama's radical ideal is not acceptable or reversible.

Unthinkable? Then think up an alternative, non-violent solution to the Obama problem. Just don't shrug and say, "We can always worry about that later."

There's more at Media Matters.

And I got slammed by wingers for reporting a Facebook poll about killing Obama to the Secret Service... Yeah, I was really being an alarmist, wasn't I?

My original story is here. The sequel in which I discuss the Secret Service's call back to me here.

Mike Huckabee's "Elvis moment": U.N. = ACORN

By GottaLaff

http://blogs.thestate.com/bradwarthensblog/images/2008/01/31/huckabee_2008_norris_wart.jpg

HuckaMouth is teetering dangerously over the proverbial deep end. He attended the “How To Take Back America” conference, but it seems he should have gone to the "How To Take Back His Sanity" conference. Apparently, it was sold out.

A few excerpts, via Dave Weigel:
Former Gov. Mike Huckabee [...] said that he’d “nearly had an Elvis moment” watching this week’s United Nations general assembly sessions and spoke about pulling out of the world organization altogether.

It’s time to get a jackhammer and to simply chip off that part of New York City and let it float into the East River, never to be seen again!” [...] That remark got him a standing ovation [...]

Sound familiar?

John Bolton declared in 1994, ''If the U.N. secretary building in New York lost 10 stories, it wouldn't make a bit of difference."

HuckaWTF then encouraged de-funding the U.N.:

It’s time to say enough of the American taxpayer’s dollar being spent on something that may have been a noble idea, but has become a disgrace!"

Exclamation point!

But wait! There's more! And that "more" is awfully reminiscent of my last post entitled, "The Republican War against ACORN" (title via Jason Leopold). Imagine that. Talking points much?

"It has become the international equivalent of ACORN and it’s time to say enough!"

Land sakes, if that ain't the gosh-durndest insult a Rushpublic could dangle out there, then I don't know what is.

And finally, he got so wee-wee'd up that he offered up the U.N. (the parts that won't be jackhammered off, I guess) to those responsible for, you know, attacking us. Why does he hate America?

“Let’s end the diplomatic excesses that these people enjoy [...] Let any country that is willing to spend the money that the United States is hosting–let them have it. Give it to the Saudis and let these diplomats suck the sand out of the Saudi desert for a few summers and see if that’s where they’d like to go, and make their ridiculous speeches.”

Talk about sucking, um, sand...

My, my, is that any way for a non-ordained Southern Baptist minister to talk? Maybe that's what a diet of fried squirrel does to a guy.

VIDEO- Our own Cliff Schecter: "This is a party that makes Kanye West look humble"

By GottaLaff

CliffDoggie's back, and he goes after Joe "You lie!" Wilson... and more:

Cliff Schecter is a very talented political analyst, Democratic consultant/strategist, and author (The Real McCain). He's also a good friend... so good, in fact, that he convinced me to co-edit this very blog with him and Paddy a couple of years ago.

He's been busy working on Very Important Things, so he had to leave The Political Carnival (he may pop in again, though, stay tuned...)

I nicknamed him "Bulldog" because of his ability to go up against any political talking head, sink his teeth into him/her, and not let up. When given the chance, he devours his opponents. This video doesn't get quite as wild and woolly as usual, but he still gets to strut his stuff.

It's so good to see him back on air, especially on my Twitter pal David Shuster's show.

VIDEO: Michele Bachmann thanks God for Joe "You Lie!" Wilson

By GottaLaff

Michele "You Da Man!" Bachmann does it again. "You da man!", meet "You lie!" If they ever mated, they'd have "You da lying man!" babies.

There is no end to her eye-widening lunacy:

Michele Bachmann spoke at a tea party in St. Cloud, MN at 10 a.m. on Sept. 12, 2009.

In her speech she said that Rep. Joe Wilson, the idiot Congressman who yelled "You Lie" at President Obama, is right and that she agrees with him.

Michele Bachmann has publicly stated that she thinks that President Obama is anti-American and now she says that he is also a liar.
You da idiot!

Obama: I allowed the loons to take over the asylum

By GottaLaff

http://imgjam.com/albums/6629/covers/1.130.jpg

Oh goody. President Obama just admitted he let the crazies take over the asylum:
President Barack Obama said Wednesday he has left “too much ambiguity” in what he wants for healthcare reform, allowing his opponents to control the message.
At least he said it out loud. His intentions for backing off were understandable, though. He was trying to avoid the mistakes made by Bill Clinton:
The morning before his address on healthcare to a joint session of Congress, Obama said he took a relatively hands-off approach “out of an effort to give Congress the ability to do their thing and not step on their toes.”

That allowed “opponents of reform to come in and to fill up the airwaves with a lot of nonsense — everything from the this ridiculous idea that we were setting up death panels to false notions that this was designed to provide health insurance to illegal immigrants,” Obama said in an interview on ABC’s "Good Morning America."

He also criticized a “broader notion of a government takeover of healthcare, which none of the bills that worked their way through Congress ever envisioned.”

Obama’s speech Wednesday night is intended to get the White House back in control of a debate it has been ceding ground on for the past month.
Let's hope he can do that. And let's really, really hope that he doesn't cede ground on a strong public option, while he's at it.
The president blamed told "Good Morning America" that despite the best efforts of his White House, “unyielding partisanship” has hampered the healthcare debate.

In some ways, I think it's gotten worse,” said Obama.

He blasted the right wing of the Republican Party for obscuring what he sees as the reasonable voices of centrists within the GOP.
Okay, good, good, but what about the bill? Give us a teeny tiny hint... pleeeeease? Just one?
Obama warned that if some principles are not included in a congressional healthcare bill, he will not sign it, but he stressed that the intent of his address to Congress is to ensure that people understand exactly what he is proposing.

He said he wants to ensure that lawmakers in both parties understand that he is open to new ideas and that the White House is not being “rigid and ideological” about healthcare reform.
Could you just be rigid about the public option? We're not asking much. Take me, for instance. Have I ever asked you for anything before? I mean other than that whole torture thing...

Anti-Obama speech Craigslist ad for Republican "little people" actors in classrooms

By GottaLaff

Desperation can lead to, well in this case, insanity.

Via Commenter Pigboy, we have something fascinating from the Dep't. of What Have We Here: (bolding is mine)

Found on Craigslist:
"Currently seeking little people...

As you know in a week Obama will be making a speech to school children. We are currently seeking republican little people to portray school children in hopes of possibly getting our points across. This is a very high pressure situation and we will need excellent actors as well as little people that are capable of portraying school children. There is pay and though hopefully no real exposure, we need to continue expressing an opposing viewpoint. Obama is approaching children in an attempt to avoid exactly what we hope to cause. No violence. No threats, just children with a republican view.

Thanks...

it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests"

GOP forgets flag so they Pledge Allegiance to man in American flag t-shirt.

By GottaLaff

When it comes to the recent overwhelming rush of Rushpublic lunacy, I'm just about out of words, so:

Animated gif screaming girl

Illinois Republicans are a patriotic bunch.

They start their meetings with a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the nation’s unofficial loyalty oath. [...]

Republican county chairmen (party leaders, not county board leaders) held a meeting and prepared to recite the pledge. Oops. There was no flag in the room for them to face while reciting.
Oh noes! What a dilemma! Now what? Why, I bet them Rushpubs were extra crispy resourceful. I betcha they did the most solemn, dignified thing they could think of, knowing that the press would be sure to pick it up.
[They called] on a fellow named Gene to come to the rescue. Gene was wearing a shirt decked out in an American flag pattern. He came forward, and the group of assembled Republicans pledged allegiance to his shirt.

You have to wonder how conservatives would have reacted had Democrats done the same thing.
Animated gif screaming girl

I pledge allegiance to Gene's shirt... Yeah, that's patriotic. And rational.

Republican town haller: I'm “a proud right wing terrorist.”

By GottaLaff

http://www.mentaljokes.com/images/crazy_here.gif

What has happened to normal, everyday people on "the other side of the aisle"? Do they even exist any more?

[Rep. Wally] Herger did not hold back on his opinion of the health care plan and the administration’s appointment of “czars” to head various departments and task forces. “Our democracy has never been threatened as much as it is today,” Herger said to a loud standing ovation.

The audience also loudly cheered a man who stood up and declared himself to be “a proud right wing terrorist.” “Amen, God bless you,” Herger responded. “There is a great American.” (HT: Huffington Post)

Poll-itics: Just 24% of North Carolina GOP Say Obama is a Citizen

By GottaLaff

http://www.puzzlemaster.ca/puzzles/images/nutcase_new.gif

Good grief:
In early look at a new Public Policy Polling survey finds that among North Carolina Republicans, a stunning 47% think President Obama was not born in United States, while 24% say he was and 29% are not sure.
That means a total of 76% won't vouch for Obama's citizenship.

In another unrelated poll, 100% of sane people think North Carolina Rushpulics are nuts and/or ignorami.

GOP Crazies Prepping For Obama N.H. Town Hall

By GottaLaff

Via Chuck Todd, we get a peek at an invitation to all the wingnuttiest's finest (read: worst) to President Obama's Tuesday health care town hall meeting in New Hampshire:
BTW, here's one invitation NBC News has gotten their hands on from a group rallying against the president. This is from the New Hampshire Republican Volunteer Coalition:
NHRVC members and others,

Barack Hussein Obama will be arriving in Portsmouth on Tuesday to hold a STAGED "Town Hall Meeting", where he will essentially hand pick who the guests will be and what types of questions will be asked of him.

A MASSIVE protest rally is being organized just outside of the facility where Obama will be holding his "Town Hall Meeting" to promote his plan for a government takeover of your healthcare decisions.

There will be news media from all over the world at this event and it will be the ideal opportunity for us to tell the rest of the country exactly how NH voters feel about Obamacare (taxed/rationed healthcare). It will be the most important pro-liberty event of the year in NH and it is critically important that every one of us attend.

If you can, bring a sign that says something like, "OBAMACARE=TAXED/RATIONED HEALTHCARE", etc.

Come anytime between 8am-4pm (peak time will be 11am-4pm)

See you there!!
Here's what Chuck Todd had to say about that whole "staged" thing:
And as much as some might want to believe the White House will be staging the questions, don't believe that hype. The White House knows the political price for being caught doing that is MUCH higher than having to deal with a confrontation or two at the meeting itself. If anything, I'd bet some inside the White House are hoping for a confrontation since they believe the president's demeanor alone will politically play well with the folks the White House cares most about right now, ACTUAL independents.
I'll be glued to my Tee Vee Machine Tuesday. Hopefully, it will be televised live, and the president will make these lunatics look like the cowardly, mouth-breathing obstructionist nutballs that they are.... in that nice, polite way he has, of course.

Republicans Use Chaos as a Shock Doctrine to Create Authoritarian Rule

By GottaLaff

Your Daily Dose of BuzzFlash, via my pal, Mark Karlin:

There is a method to this madness of chaos and obstructionism that is the hallmark of modern Republicanism.

It is to do politically what Naomi Klein detailed in her economic analysis in the "Shock Doctrine"; it is to so bollix and confuse and make feel vulnerable the displaced white working and middle class that they will turn to authoritarian leadership out of fear. [...]

The corporations that now basically run the government need four things to achieve their goals of unregulated global commerce: 1) politicians in their pocket; 2) corporate/GOP media that conveys propaganda instead of truth; 3) anxious white Americans fed fear by winger media; and 4) entrenched wealth willing to invest hundreds of millions of dollars into a shadow propaganda ministry of think tanks, "analysts," government regulators on the take, etc.

Together, this merger of media, corporations (which owns the mainstream media) and government is called fascism.

This is a must-read. Please go here for the rest.

Another Special Comment by my 72-year-old friend

By GottaLaff

I have a very caring, impassioned Twitter pal, one who I've actually had the pleasure to spend some time with. He wanted to share his feelings about recent events, and I am more than happy to oblige, again. His first excellent rant can be found here:
It’s the 72 year old guy again. In my last comment I said that I haven’t seen so much hate and fear in this country since the civil rights movement. In the last few days I have seen it get even worse. The more I see it the angrier I get.

So whom am I angry at:

The birther movement: YES!; the town hall demonstrations: YES!; the conservative media who spew their hate: YES!; the republican party (1) for telling their followers to disrupt town hall meetings, (2) whose only policy is to see President Obama fail on all his programs, (3) wanting Health Care reform to be his Waterloo, (4) opposing additional funding for the stimulus program “Cash for Clunkers”: YES!!!!

When did we lose the concept that differences of opinions can be discussed and resolved in a peaceful manner? Why does the conservative media feel the only way to oppose anything is to spew hateful words like “racist”, “he’s not one of us” “this country was built by the white man"? Such words rile their base, and at times we have seen violent acts taken by their followers... for which these commentators will take no responsibility.

So what I see happening is the erosion of democracy as I have known it in this country; where party ideology is more important than what is best for this country. This erosion has been going on for several years. When mob mentality takes over the democratic process, like what we have seen at the town hall meetings, we all lose. No political party is right on everything it proposes, but by only working together in a bipartisan manner can we accomplish anything that is best for the country. To oppose any president on everything that may be proposed doesn’t benefit the country.

I hope it doesn’t take a climatic event to bring this great country back to its senses.
