What a great mom:
There's nothing more patriotic than teaching your kids how to shoot a president. Or does "Obamas" mean his whole family? Maybe she was referring to future Obamas, meaning, what? Future black presidents?
Add her to the list of violent Tea Bagger gun crazies who hide behind the flag.
Child abuse isn't part of that "Family Values" thing, Mom. And IMHO, training your kids to use firearms specifically to ready them for "Obamas tomorrow" is child abuse. Be proud.

Insurrection on the Potomac: The Gun Guys Go Seditious
By GottaLaff
Your Daily Dose of BuzzFlash, via my buddy Mark Karlin:
The politically charged gun movement in America that began when right wing ideologues took over the NRA in the '70s (in what was called "The Revolt at Cincinnati") has been pathological from the beginning. [...]
Ironically, as pro-gun legislation is passing across the land and in Washington, the Virginia gun guy "protest" was held on National Park land that now allows handgun carrying because of a law signed by President Obama -- and most of the attendees were locked and loaded.
At both rallies, the talk was defiant and seditious, threatening [...]
There were only a few hundred gun nuts who showed up at each rally, but that was enough to get a scrum of media coverage, as compared to the barely covered 200,000 advocates who showed up in D.C. a couple weeks back to protest for a compassionate immigration policy.
The modern gun lobby -- after the political right wingers took over the NRA in a coup -- is more about white male entitlement, racism, and the false perception that a handgun would be of much value against the United States Military based on a paranoid view of the federal government. [...]
They certainly didn't protest the invasion of privacy on multiple levels under the Bush Administration.

"Open-Carry" gun nuts VIDEO + Jim Webb WAS For Closing The Gun Show Loophole
By GottaLaff
A victory for gun control advocates today:
(CNN)– House Democratic leaders have killed a bill that would have given Washington, DC a voting representative in Congress because the measure included a provision that would have wiped out the District's strict gun laws.
Taxation with representation on the condition of lax gun laws? Not so much.
A close friend of TPC had a victory of his own. Our own Cliff Schecter (who founded this blog and happens to be my mentor), together with families of those massacred at Virginia Tech, played a roll in discouraging the D.C. powers from passing the bill.
Background on the shooting:
The Virginia Tech massacre was a school shooting that took place on Monday, April 16, 2007 on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States. In two separate attacks, approximately two hours apart, the perpetrator, Seung-Hui Cho, killed 32 people and wounded many others[1] before committing suicide. The massacre is the deadliest peacetime shooting incident by a single gunman in United States history, on or off a school campus.[2] [...]
It sparked intense debate about gun violence, gun laws, gaps in the U.S. system for treating mental health issues, the perpetrator's state of mind, the responsibility of college administrations,[5] privacy laws, journalism ethics, and other issues. [...] The massacre prompted the state of Virginia to close legal loopholes that had previously allowed Cho, an individual adjudicated as mentally unsound, to purchase handguns without detection by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). It also led to passage of the first major federal gun control measure in more than 13 years.
Now for the inevitable Big H: However...
Jim Webb was "outed", if you will, by these very same Virginia Tech families. He made a promise to them that he has broken; at least that's sure how they are feeling. And he's not exactly denying it.
Webb told the family members he was for closing the gun show loophole. He has yet to do that after 10 months.
The 3rd anniversary of the Virginia Tech massacre just passed.
The 11th anniversary of Columbine is also upon us.
Here is Webb's strong private statement to the Virginia Tech Families:
A group that includes victims of the Virginia Tech massacre and their families said Monday that Sen. Jim Webb (D-Virginia) met privately with them and gave his commitment to support a federal law requiring that buyers at gun shows undergo background checks before purchasing firearms.
Compare that to his much weaker public statement:
Will Jenkins, a spokesman for Webb, has sent the following statement. It does not directly address whether Webb supports closing the gun-show loophole: "Senator Webb is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. He also believes that appropriate laws and procedures should be kept in place to ensure that guns should be kept out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. He will continue to work with his colleagues in the Senate toward both ends," Jenkins wrote. [...]
Kevin Hall, a spokesman for Warner, has responded as well. Like Jenkins, he did not directly address the gun show issue. "Senator Warner has a record of supporting Second Amendment rights and he will weigh any future proposals that come before the full Senate. He also will continue to work for full funding to make sure the National Instant Criminal Background Check System is complete and up-to-date - improvements that were mandated by Congress following the 2007 Virginia Tech tragedy," he wrote in a statement.
As a result, ads have been launched in several states, taking aim (no pun) at Jim Webb and Mark Warner. Here is one:
Credit goes to Cliff Schecter, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV), and a big hat tip to Virginians for Public Safety and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, for their efforts.
Cliff and CSGV produced this video. It made a difference:
Thank you, Cliff and Virginia Tech relatives for your push to get a bad law dumped. You showed Congress what it could look like if some very unstable people with extreme views were allowed to carry assault weapons openly in the streets.

The deadly loophole: Gunning for trouble
By GottaLaff

Go on, guess.
Give up?
The gun show loophole! Yayyy!
Yes, the right wing, anti-government Pentagon shooter, John Patrick Bedell, got his gun at a gun show through the gun show loophole, with no background check. Feel safer yet?
QuickDraw McLoopHole had already been declared too, er, abnormal to buy one through a federally licensed dealer, but pfft! That didn't matter:
Two guns used in high-profile shootings this year at the Pentagon and a Las Vegas courthouse both came from the same unlikely place: the police and court system of Memphis, Tenn.Law enforcement officials told The Associated Press that both guns were once seized in criminal cases in Memphis. The officials described how the weapons made their separate ways from an evidence vault to gun dealers and to the shooters.
Wow, hmm, gee, how'd that happen?
[O]n the day of the Pentagon shooting, March 4, the Tennessee governor signed legislation revising state law on confiscated guns. Before, law enforcement agencies in the state had the option of destroying a gun. Under the new version, agencies can only destroy a gun if it's inoperable or unsafe.
Seems Version 2.0 needs to be updated.
But with that in mind, it's only natural that oversight would tighten up, right?
[...] 24 states — mostly in the South and West, where gun-rights advocates are particularly strong — have passed 47 new laws loosening gun restrictions.
Gee, that doesn't seem logical. Oops, did I say "logical"? Logic has nothing to do with this!
What, am I nuts?
No, but QuickDraw was:
[T]he weapons first went to licensed gun dealers, but later came into the hands of men who were legally barred from possessing them: one a convicted felon; the other mentally ill.
Change we can't believe in.
But come on, realistically, what are the chances of some psycho ending up finding that one special dealer who would slip him a lethal weapon:
Law enforcement officials say Bedell, a man with a history of severe psychiatric problems, had been sent a letter by California authorities Jan. 10 telling him he was prohibited from buying a gun because of his mental history.
Nineteen days later, the officials say, Bedell bought the Ruger at a gun show in Las Vegas. Such a sale by a private individual does not require the kind of background check that would have stopped Bedell's purchase.
But privatizing stuff is the GOP's answer to everything. What could possible go wrong? Death? Don't be silly. Murder? Ridiculous! Selling lethal weapons to a disturbed individual who would subsequently go on a shooting spree? Impossible!
The real and growing threat is to innocent lives, not the Constitution.

Three Percenters: "Attempt to further oppress us at your peril"
By GottaLaff

3% = 0.03
Tea Tantrumers, Birthers, Tenthers, Deathers, -Ers, -Ers, and more -Ers. Now we have the Three Percenters.
Apparently, these zealots want to party like it's 1775:
During the American Revolution, the active forces in the field against the King's tyranny never amounted to more than 3% of the colonists. They were in turn actively supported by perhaps 10% of the population. [...]There's nothing quite as bracing as starting my Monday with an all-American death threat.
We DO claim that we represent at least 3% of American gun owners, which is still a healthy number somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 million people. [...] We are one such minority. So too are the current enemies of the Founders' Republic. [...]
The Three Percent today are gun owners who will not disarm, will not compromise and will no longer back up at the passage of the next gun control act. Three Percenters say quite explicitly that we will not obey any further circumscription of our traditional liberties and will defend ourselves if attacked. [...] Thus, we are committed to the restoration of the Founders' Republic, and are willing to fight, die and, if forced by any would-be oppressor, to kill in the defense of ourselves and the Constitution that we all took an oath to uphold against enemies foreign and domestic.
We are the people that the collectivists who now control the government should leave alone if they wish to continue unfettered oxygen consumption. We are the Three Percent. Attempt to further oppress us at your peril.
To put it bluntly, leave us the hell alone.
What a mighty gang of hatriots.

UPDATE: The hatriot has disabled embedding of his death threat videos. He went all private on us. What, he's not proud of his revolution? (h/t: ExitPass) UPDATE ON THIS UPDATE: Sorry, ExitPass was referring to this post, on James Manning, not the hatriots in the post you're reading now.

VIDEO- Why We Need Gun Laws: Caught On Camera, Wild Shootout At Bar
By GottaLaff
Jarring, to say the least:
Remember my post of the other day about a sting operation at gun shows? This is one reason we need to clamp down on the crazies:From The AP: Police have released footage of a shootout that erupted inside a bar in Toledo, Ohio. They say no one was injured but they are now scouring the area for suspects -
Oh, and here's a little reassuring something for those in Arizona to sleep on:
Under the law, backed by the National Rifle Association, the 138,350 people with concealed-weapons permits in Arizona will be allowed to bring their guns into bars and restaurants that haven't posted signs banning them. And let's not forget those good ol' gunslingers at presidential speeches and town hall meetings.

Video- Man With Assault Rifle Outside Obama Event: 'We Will Forcefully Resist'
Something I either never knew or forgot long ago- Squeaky Fromme had no bullets in her gun, yet she served 34 years in prison.
In a YouTube video, the man who carried a semi-automatic assault rifle outside yesterday's presidential event tells fellow demonstrators "We will forcefully resist people imposing their will on us through the strength of the majority with a vote."
The man, only identified as "Chris," spoke against taxation: "Just because you sic the government on people doesn't make it morally OK to steal money from people. Taxation is theft."
He also said "it would be insane" not to be armed, saying he wears a gun at all times.

Holocaust Museum shooter had lawmaker's address
By GottaLaff
Still scoffing at that DHS report warning of right wing extremists, are ya, Rushpublics?
Capitol Police have notified a member of Congress whose office address was in the possession of a man charged with murdering a security guard at the Holocaust Memorial Museum. How logical that those who are so afraid of Big Bad Obama confiscating their weapons make sure to use them to kill people before Big Bad O can do take them away and hoard them for himself and his Jew masters.
Senate Sgt. at Arms Terry Gainer said there was no current threat to the lawmaker, who he declined to name, but that Capitol Police chief Phillip Morse was staying apprised of reports from federal and local law enforcement for possible developments in the case. [...]
In a notepad officials found in von Brunn’s car, von Brunn wrote that President Obama was “created by Jews” and stated his concern that he would have his weapons taken away, according to a criminal complaint filed Thursday in the U.S. Disrict Court for the District of Columbia.
The complaint, quoting von Brunn’s notebook, said, “You want my weapons - this is how you'll get them. The Holocaust is a lie. Obama was created by Jews. Obama does what his Jew owners tell him to do.”And there you have it: Another compassionate conservative role model for our youth.
