Why Obama wants a Secretary of State Clinton, among others

Here is Chris Matthews' answer (just now on Hardball) to the "why Hillary?" question:

Obama is ready to do something big, New Deal big, and therefore wants heavyweights to help him do the work, not second stringers. He wants the top tier, which, per Tweety, is why he's meeting with John McCain, and why he hired Rahm Emanuel right off the bat. He'd like the big guns with him, so he'll have the political team he needs in order to pull this off.

To pull off real change, he needs real heft. So says the Tweetster.
