McCain Backs Off New Economic Proposals

So, the McCain campaign is going to "hit the reset button" to try and portray the campaign as less "erratic"? Nice start. This campaign is toast, extra burnt.

"Despite signals that Sen. John McCain would have new prescriptions for the economic crisis after a weekend of meetings, his campaign said Sunday that Mr. McCain... would not have any more proposals this week unless developments call for some," the New York Times reports.

"The signs of internal confusion came as the campaign was under pressure from state party leaders to sharpen his message on the economy and at least blunt the advantage that Democrats traditionally have on the issue in hard times."

"Participants in the meeting refused to say what happened," according to Politico.

"The news dismayed McCain supporters and surrogates, who had thought the fresh policy would help him gain traction on the campaign's most vital issue, and dilute the impression that he was relying solely on attacks in the home stretch."

PS- I just heard Amanda Carpenter of Townhall on MSNBC saying that union card checks are a very important issue that will resonate with voters. HAHAHAHAHA.

Union card checks? More "get off my grass" yelling at the kids.

there's a reason for that, ady. They are just stringing shit together hoping that people will think they know what they're talking about.

Okay, Paddy, I just read your answer to me below. Now it makes sense, thanks. I must drink more coffee.

But, why would folks be worried about their union cards, if they're losing their homes and jobs?

Ady- as far as I can understand about the union check cards is that one side wants you to vote on whether or not to have a Union in your shop like regular voting- ie a ballot in a box, and the other side wants a Union member to go around to each person and ask them. I don't understand the nuances of why one is better than the other-

Ady, don't go asking questions that make sense, it will only confuse Republicans.

I cannot remember a campaign that I have enjoyed more.

On Election Night 2006, I stayed up late listening to returns. I drank a bit - not too much - my wife, who does not share my case of Political Wackyderangement being up in bed - I went outside and walked up and down the streets at 2 AM thinking "Who else is up?" Amazingly, no one seemed to be. Even my liberal friends had dark houses.

That's probably what's going to happen this time.

Fiph, I know the McIce Queen folks merely string nonsensical words together into very strange sounding sentences, but I guess this chick was expanding on McIce Queen's point in his speech today where he says some such shit like this: "under an Obama Administration, you will lose your right to a secret ballot."

Data Guy, I was asleep that night too. But, it was a midterm. I didn't sleep at all in 2000, and was a mess at work the next day. In 2004, I drank some and slept from around 3:30 until 6, when the misses got up for work.

This year, there's no way I'm sleeping. I'm heading downtown to see what is up. I'm also considering heading over to the White House to scream at it a little, "In your face, Mother Fucker!" I doubt that I'll be the only one.

Hey, something every Republican should read:

I know, Clancy, this whole thing is just more nonsense. I'll try not to ask anymore questions that might make sense today. Promise.

In that case, Paddy, this doesn't seem like a very good strategy for them either. Oh well, let them keep talking.

He can't come up with new economic proposals - he doesn't have a fucking clue what he's taking about and every time he comes up with some new wacky idea, the economists laugh at him. Too bad (for him ) that Krugman was too elite for him to read...

2000 I was a stay at home mom - the TV didn't get turned off for a month. This year I informed my boss back in June that I'd be taking 11/5 off. :)

I up all night for all of these. It's hard being a political junkie in a European timezone. The debated start for me at 3 am. By the next day, I haven't slept and feel like I have a hangover. But I need my fix, mang!

What happened to this new economic plan of McCains is that Lindsay Graham and a few other loose lipped nimrods leaked some of the details -- which were met with overwhelming disapproval and criticism as making things worse. They feared Obama would jump on it to show the desperation on McCain's part and the incompetance of his economical advisors... Another McCain blunder. D.

There's a theory that McCain is going to spring his economic plan at the debate for two reasons:

1 Greatest reach (low cost). Expect large number of voters to watch McCain "going to kick his you-know-what at next week's debate".

2 Obama and others won't be able to critique it beforehand (learning from his mistake at the last debate where his suggestion was shot down in the days after).
