Obama triples Missouri staff

By Paddy

The smart campaign strikes again. At least he's not out giving "fake" press conferences. Methinks Senator McCain's lackey sounds a bit peckish over the whole thing. Bummer.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Barack Obama's campaign plans to triple its paid workers in Missouri to 150, making it one of the largest Democratic campaign efforts in the state's history.
The 150 workers will be placed in 30 field offices across the state, which has been a key swing state in presidential elections for years.

"It's unheard of," veteran Democratic worker Woody Overton of Kansas City told The Kansas City Star. "It's unbelievable."

Republican presidential candidate John McCain's campaign said the plan shows that Obama is desperate to win Missouri. McCain's campaign has 12 to 14 full-time workers and 10 offices in the state.

UPDATE- This might be why the McCainiac sounded peevish-

A new Public Policy Polling survey in Missouri finds Sen. John McCain edging Sen. Barack Obama, 47% to 44%.

Key finding: "The good news for Obama and other Democrats in the state is that Democratic party id has surpassed that for Republicans in the state. When PPP last polled Missouri, during its hotly contested 2006 Senate race, Republicans had a 40-39 party id advantage. While the Democrats have remained constant since then, Republican self identifiers have dropped 6%, with a commensurate increase in independents."
