Break-ins reported at another climate research center

By GottaLaff

Watergate redux.

To hell with the health and well-being of, you know, Planet Earth and its world population, our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc. It's much more important to fatten up bank accounts, make headlines, and pull off as many perverse power plays as possible:
As the United States — led by President Barack Obama — prepares to join the world in the fight against global warming, the opponents of reform are resorting to criminal desperation, harkening back to the amoral extremes of Richard Nixon. The release of the hacked emails from CRU was praised as the act of a “whistleblower” by conservatives. The timing couldn’t be better,” chortled Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK). The original Watergate scandal began when right-wing operatives burglarized the offices of their political opponents during a presidential election. “Climategate” is turning out to be worse — now the criminals are turning on scientists as the world burns.
Read the story about the break-in at the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis at the University of Victoria in British Columbia here.

Sometimes it feels like much of the world needs a gigantic straight jacket.

Todd Palin's half-sister arrested for burglary

By GottaLaff

Toddry "Real Man" Palin has only half a sister? Oh-h, sorry. He has a half-sister. Silly me:

Todd Palin’s half-sister was arrested Thursday after police say she broke into a Wasilla home for the second time this week to steal money.

Palin is the husband of Gov. Sarah Palin. He declined comment.

What's that the Palins say they stand for again? Oh yeah. Family values. I guess they're trying to overcompensate for this:

Diana Palin, 35, entered a home near Wasilla’s Multi-Use Sports Complex and attempted to steal cash from the owner’s bedroom, police said.

She also broke into the same house on Tuesday and stole $400, they said.

She was arrested Thursday morning on felony charges of first-degree burglary and misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and theft, police said. Friday morning, she remained jailed at Mat-Su Pretrial Facility in Palmer in lieu of $10,000 bail and court-approved third party custodian.

Speaking of guilt by association, I wonder if Ms. Palin pals around with Levi's mom. You know the one... the drug dealer. I'm sure they're one big happy clan.

You know what they say: The family that's maladjusted together gets busted together.

Palin fans couldn't steal the election, so they steal eyeglasses

By GottaLaff

Tell me if you've heard this before. Okay, so there's this airhead who runs for vice president of the United States, see. And she's a former beauty contestant, so she's attractive and many of her admirers want to look just like her.

Are you with me so far? Good. So, okay, she wears these eyeglasses. They're not unusual in any way, we've all seen them on hundreds of people, but for whatever reason, they become La Trend du Jour. Oo. La. La.

Are you still with me? Okay good. Here's the rest of the story via an e-mail from a Commenter, discussing her dog groomer. And yes, the dog groomer bought a pair of those very pricey Palinesque eyeglass frames:
But here's the only interesting part of this long tale. The optometrist tells her to be careful with the glasses and never leave them sitting out because they are STOLEN all the time.

Yes, that's right. Many of those God-fearing, right wing, family values, evangelical Republicans will happily steal from each other.
Well, they steal from everyone else, so why not from each other? Badum-bum!

The punchline? Those holier-than-thou preachers of morals and ethics have neither. Rim shot! Bada bing! Hiyo-o-o!

I'm here all week.

From the Dep't. of Can't Make This Stuff Up

By GottaLaff

Okay, buddy, this is a stick-up:
A driver in Mexico got himself into a sticky situation when he pulled over to help a woman whose pickup appeared to be broken down by the highway.

Anadel Carrizales was driving Wednesday near the northern city of Monterrey when a blond woman in a black miniskirt motioned for him to pull over.

Once he had stopped, the woman walked up and told him an accomplice was pointing a gun at him, said David Perales, a spokesman for state investigators.

She then tied him up with packing tape, super-glued his hands to the steering wheel of his truck and demanded money. [...]

With his motor still running and his hands still glued to the wheel, Carrizales managed to drive a few miles (kilometers) down the road until he found a police officer to help him.

Looks like the guy had a real grasp on things. Sounds kinda stuck up to me, though. Too bad he and the blonde didn't bond. They should have taken the time to cement the relationship.

Nearly a year ago, a 10-year-old boy in Monterrey glued his hand to his bed so that he wouldn't have to go to school. Paramedics had to free him.

What is it with kids not adhering to the rules?

I'm done now.

Republicans, eat your spinnage!

By GottaLaff

What is it with Republicans and scandals? And what is it with Republicans pathetically trying to spin scandals when spinnage isn't even an option?

Outside lawyers for the National Republican Congressional Committee confirmed Thursday that a former employee allegedly stole an estimated $725,000 from the campaign committee between 2001 and 2007, although the exact amount is still unclear.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee, because of joint fundraising it did with the NRCC, also lost an estimated $28,000 to Ward's illicit activities, and at least five other campaign committees and leadership PACs that he worked for have already reported that he allegedly diverted at least $47,000 from their accounts.

That brings the total GOP losses to Ward to nearly $800,000.
Christopher J. Ward, former treasurer, was a bad, naughty boy. But Chairman Tom is so proud! Why? Because Chairman Tom and his staff, says he, were right on top of things! They were the Discovererererers, the Reportererers and the Bustererers! And what a crack team of law-and-order Republicans they were! Too bad Republican donors don't quite see it that way:
[NRCC Chairman Tom Cole (Okla.)] said the Ward investigation has diverted needed resources into an investigation, and raised unwanted questions from donors about the committee's operations. [...] Cole tried to spin the situation as a credit to himself and his staff, who first confronted Ward on his failure to get an outside audit of the committee's books. Oklahoma Republican said he was proud "that we're the ones that found it, we're the ones that reported it, we're the ones that fixed it."
It doesn't take much to fill the NRCC with pride these days, does it.
