J.D. Hayworth: Gay marriage opens doors to bestiality

John Sidney McCain's bigoted opponent equated same-sex marriage with bestiality on a Florida radio show.

J Sid is pro-Don't Ask Don't Tell. What a pair:

"You see, the Massachusetts Supreme Court, when it started this move toward same-sex marriage, actually defined marriage," Hayworth said. "Now get this, it defined marriage as simply, quote, 'the establishment of intimacy.' Now how dangerous is that? [...] I mean, I don't mean to be absurd about it..."

Too late.

... "But I guess I can make the point of absurdity with an absurd point. I guess that would mean if you really had affection for your horse, I guess you could marry your horse."

Hey J.D., if it's that absurd, you might have had the presence of mind to keep your big mouth shut... for once. No self-discipline: The sign of a trustworthy leader.

And how about not even thinking it? Equating same-sex marriage with marrying an animal? Really? You're going there?

Conservative:

That remark was far from "conservative", despite your party affiliation. More like outlandish and offensive.

I am appalled by the level of incivility and irrationality in this country. What has caused such a devolution? Why are we as a country tolerating this apparent downward spiral? What happened to us? We should be demanding better.

Twitter Watch: "I laughed so hard to see Olbermann's rant about his father's health...Die..."

I appreciate Twitter. I'm a constant tweeter. Because of Twitter, I've been able to chat with people I'd never hope to meet anywhere else, our readership has grown tremendously, and I've gotten several radio gigs.

However, it has its drawbacks.

One of them is named TonyPagano51:

This is someone who is sick and in desperate need of attention.

He also needs exposing and should be prohibited from tweeting. I've reported him twice to Twitter spam and blocked him as well. Unfortunately, he still shows up on my Twitter search stream since he addresses me by name, and Twitter has yet to delete his account.

In other words, he harasses people, and I'm one of them.

Maybe this will help, it's worked before. Thank you for indulging me.

Thom Hartmann: "Joe Lieberman is a sick and twisted sociopath"

Thom Hartmann opened his show right up with a monologue on health care reform, and wow, he was as angry as Paddy and I are about Traitor Joe's threats, obstruction, and pallin' around with filibusterers.

I jotted down what I could as I listened to him a few minutes ago. I paraphrased a little, but most of this is verbatim, and he was literally ranting. It was hard to keep up. He expressed the emotions so many of us are feeling:

Joe Lieberman is sick and twisted. He's a sicky sociopath who is willing to let 45,000 people die for revenge. And that is what this is about: revenge.

And many Democrats in Congress feed into it by not pulling his committee chairmanship.

Here is what we should do to get health care reform done: Change the way we fund things. We should go from using money from payroll taxes (FICA) to pay, to getting it from the general fund.

Increase, raise taxes on the wealthy, and even slightly on the middle class working people, which would happen as a result, but they'd be able to afford it. Their paychecks would increase immediately, so they could handle it.

This would be revenue neutral, it would pay for itself.

Everyone would be on Medicare, and it could start tomorrow, and doesn't require 60 votes.

It may be the only option the Democrats have.

People like this exist. We see them on TV, we hear them on the radio, we read them on Twitter and Facebook.

We saw hatred spewed yesterday at the Tea Party rally. Whether this tweeter is doing this for "kicks" or is sincere, the fact is that he is putting more vicious, sick hate speech out there.

It's catching. It takes just one final utterance of encouragement to push some wacko over the edge, one last flip of the switch.

There has been a noticeable uptick in public bile like this. It is getting out of hand, and it is highly contagious. Sadly, America has come down with its own strain of virulent flu. T1P1, which is mutating as we speak.

The Secret Service is investigating a man who authorities said held a sign reading "Death to Obama" outside a [Sen. Ben Cardin] town hall meeting on health-care reform in western Maryland.

The sign also read, "Death to Michelle and her two stupid kids," referring to the first name of President Barack Obama's wife, said Washington County Sheriff's Capt. Peter Lazich.

These disturbing incidents seem to be multiplying by the day. And we're worried about a swine flu epidemic?

VIDEO: Former CIGNA executive says Michael Moore was right all along

[I]n an interview with Bill Moyers that aired tonight on PBS, Wendell Potter, former Head of Corporate Communications at CIGNA, admits that Michael Moore nailed it on the head in his movie, Sicko. It's a 30 minute interview that comes close to a confessional of the health insurance industry's enslavement to Wall Street, and I really really hope everybody in this country gets to see this. It's the only thing you'll ever need to show if anyone ever questions the public option or rambles on about the dangers of government bureaucrats.

How does one stop one's blood from boiling? Here is a partial transcript:

WENDELL POTTER: That means that part of the effort to discredit this film was to use lobbyists and their own staff to go onto Capitol Hill and say, "Look, you don't want to believe this movie. You don't want to talk about it. You don't want to endorse it. And if you do, we can make things tough for you."

BILL MOYERS: How?

WENDELL POTTER: By running ads, commercials in your home district when you're running for reelection, not contributing to your campaigns again, or contributing to your competitor.

BILL MOYERS: This is fascinating. You know, "Build awareness among centrist Democratic policy organizations--"

WENDELL POTTER: Right.

BILL MOYERS: "--including the Democratic Leadership Council."

WENDELL POTTER: Absolutely.

BILL MOYERS: Then it says, "Message to Democratic insiders. Embracing Moore is one-way ticket back to minority party status."

WENDELL POTTER: Yeah.

BILL MOYERS: Now, that's exactly what they did, didn't they? They--

WENDELL POTTER: Absolutely.

BILL MOYERS: --radicalized Moore, so that his message was discredited because the messenger was seen to be radical.

WENDELL POTTER: Absolutely. In memos that would go back within the industry — he was never, by the way, mentioned by name in any memos, because we didn't want to inadvertently write something that would wind up in his hands. So the memos would usually-- the subject line would be-- the emails would be, "Hollywood." And as we would do the media training, we would always have someone refer to him as Hollywood entertainer or Hollywood moviemaker Michael Moore.

BILL MOYERS: Why?

WENDELL POTTER: Well, just to-- Hollywood, I think people think that's entertainment, that's movie-making. That's not real documentary. They don't want you to think that it was a documentary that had some truth. They would want you to see this as just some fantasy that a Hollywood filmmaker had come up with. That's part of the strategy.

BILL MOYERS: So you would actually hear politicians mouth the talking points that had been circulated by the industry to discredit Michael Moore.

WENDELL POTTER: Absolutely.

BILL MOYERS: You'd hear ordinary people talking that. And politicians as well, right?

WENDELL POTTER: Absolutely.

BILL MOYERS: So your plan worked.

WENDELL POTTER: It worked beautifully.

BILL MOYERS: The film was blunted, right?

WENDELL POTTER: The film was blunted.

TN Republican Staffer Caught Forwarding Racist Picture

This is so blatant, so despicable, so utterly egregious, I honestly cannot fathom why this person is employed by a U.S. Senator, even one like Rushpublic Diane Black:

Earlier today, a legislative staffer forwarded well-known West Tennessee blogger Newscoma a picture they had been sent from another staffer. It's supposed to be an "historical keepsake photo" of the Presidents. But no picture of President Obama--instead, just a "spook."

Because, haha, in addition to being another word for a ghost, "spook" is also a racial slur against African-Americans! [...]

The staffer who originally sent around the picture has now been revealed to be Sherri Goforth, an executive assistant for Republican State Senator Diane Black of Gallatin (a suburb of Nashville). When contacted by Nashville Is Talking/WKRN Channel 2 (our ABC affiliate) blogger Christian Grantham, not only did Goforth refuse to apologize, all she could do was claim that she had simply sent it "from the wrong email address. In other words, not sorry that she sent out a blatantly racist email, only sorry that she got caught. [...]

For those of you not familiar with her boss, Senator Diane Black, she's a Republican who was the main Senate sponsor of S.J.R. 127, a trigger amendment passed this year that, if passed in one more legislative vote and by a ballot initiative, will allow abortion to quickly be banned in Tennessee should Roe v. Wade ever be overturned. She also rudely cancelled a meeting with GLBT activists from her own district (you know, people she was elected to represent) at the last second by saying that they "wouldn't change her mind" and therefore she didn't even need to hear from them. [...]

Excuse me?? A "hoax"?? I'll let John Aravosis take it from here. I'm afraid any further writings from me will include highly inappropriate language. Well, appropriate under the circumstances, but possibly offensive to some of our readers. Take it away, John:

You will recall that Matthew Shepard was the young gay man in Colorado who, a decade ago, was tied to a fence, Jesus-like, pistol whipped in the head some 50 times, then left for dead in the cold fall night, only to be found a day later clinging to life. Shepard died five days later. Even though Shepard's murderers admitted that they killed him because he was gay, the far-right bigots who control the Republican party couldn't resist the opportunity to gay-bash Shepard one last time. Now by referring to his brutal murder as a hoax. [...]

Belittling the brutal murder of a 21 year old college student? And Republicans wonder why their angry, hateful, pathetic party is now only 20% of the US population.
