Focus on the Family to air second ad during Super Bowl pre-game

One Super Bowl spot wasn't enough.

Nor was collaborating with CBS on writing the ads enough (something that CBS does with no other advertiser).

Now Focus on the Family is getting outright piggy. Their second ad-- yes, second-- will air during the pre-game show, starring the Tebows:

Although Focus on the Family won’t reveal its ads’ details, CEO Jim Daly says the original ad was rejected by CBS. In it, Pam Tebow, who was advised by a doctor to have an abortion for medical reasons when pregnant with her son, said, “Both of our lives were at risk.”

“They felt that was too much,” he says. “So we dropped the line. We didn’t fight them.” The word “abortion” is never used.

The ad is “an open discussion on the sanctity of human life — not just the issue of abortion,” Daly says. It was made for less than $100,000 with “a bit of humor in it — in fitting with the Super Bowl theme.”

I bet it's a real laugh riot. Maybe they'll even do a CBS Tebow sit-com spin-off, "The Peoples' Anti-Choice Awards".

Oh, and in the interest of fairness, since CBS won't air this Planned Parenthood pro-choice response ad, TPC will:

I lerve these women!

Raging Grannies of South Florida tear CBS a new one, in no uncertain terms, over its decision to run an anti-choice ad, a commercial from the Christian right-wing extremist group, Focus On The Family, during next Sunday's Super Bowl. This savage song parody, set to the tune of "Three Blind Mice", is part of the Women's Media Center "What Does CBS Stand For?" campaign .

Straightforward, to the point, honest. Now that's Must-See Tee Vee (apologies to NBC).

NBC News Files Complaint with White House Over ABC's Access

Wow, this has a really odd feel about it.

TVNewser has learned that NBC News has filed a formal complaint with the White House press office over the distribution of presidential interviews, specifically that several of the most recent broadcast TV interviews have gone to ABC News -- including George Stephanopoulos's interview yesterday and Charlie Gibson's December 15.

NBC is reportedly claiming Stephanopoulos' friendship with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has helped land the interviews. But insiders tell us those decisions are generally left to Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

Sources tell Hotline OnCall that Katie Couric's producer sent two requests to Sarah Palin's publisher for interviews during the Going Rogue book tour, and so far, Couric has been denied.

"It's not surprising -- Palin has not agreed to sit down with more than a small handful of mainstream media interviewers -- but the move looks to be part of a larger Palin blackout from CBS News and Entertainment."

Drat that liberal CBS. What a savvy move by Palin to avoid tough questions like, "What are you wearing?"

TVNewser has learned legendary CBS newsman Walter Cronkite, 92, who once held the title of "Most Trusted Man in America," is gravely ill, according to multiple CBS News sources. The network began updating his obituary more than a week ago, a source adds.

How is Obama Different Than Bush? In an interview that aired tonight on 60 Minutes, Defense Secretary Robert Gates -- the only Bush holdover in the Obama cabinet -- was very reluctant to draw comparisons between the two presidents.

Couric: You have said that President Obama is more analytical in your view than than President Bush --

Gates: That's something I wished I hadn't said.

Couric: Why? Why?

Gates: I really have been very disciplined about not drawing those kinds of comparisons.

Couric: What three words would you use to describe President Bush?

Gates: Committed, questioning, eager to make a decision and move on.

Couric: What about President Obama?

Gates: Deliberative, decisive and calm.

ABC, NBC, CBS Will Carry Obama News Conference — FOX Won't

You know, it does get old after a while, but how do you think the punditocracy would have reacted if NBC refused to air one of Bush's press conferences?

The big three broadcasters will air Pres. Barack Obama's news conference Wednesday night at 8pmET, the 100th day of the Obama administration.

But one network will not cover the news conference — FOX. Repeated calls to FOX to check on their plans went unanswered this afternoon, but THR's James Hibberd has a FOX statement: "Fox's sister networks, Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network, will air the press conference in its entirety. Fox will be alerting viewers with an onscreen graphic at the top of the 8:00 PM (ET) hour that the press conference is available on Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network."

At 8pmET, FOX will air a new episode of "Lie to Me."

More Optimism Since Obama Became President

I wouldn't have expected such a huge amount in such a short period of time. The Republican approvals? That I expected.

Americans have grown more optimistic about the economy and the direction of the country in the 11 weeks since President Obama was inaugurated, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

"Fully two-thirds said they approved of his overall job performance. By contrast, just 31 percent of respondents said they had a favorable view of the Republican Party, the lowest in the 25 years the question has been asked" in the poll.

See, in case you didn't know, see, the media is so liberal that more wingnuts are mandatory to keep things fair and balanced. Via TPM:

Conservatives have complained for years that there are too many liberals in the mainstream media. Starting Monday, though, they'll have at least one of their own at CBS News.

Jeff Ballabon, an Orthodox Jew and political and communications consultant whom The Forward called "the architect of Bush's 2004 re-election effort in the Orthodox community," is the new senior vice president for communications at CBS News. He starts Monday and, according to a CBS press release, will be in charge of "all media relations and public affairs for CBS News, including strategy and planning, day-to-day publicity, internal and external communications" and coordination with the CBS News website. [...]

Ballabon said CBS reached out to him [...]

"The key to success is the ability to be empathetic with a diversity of viewpoints," he said, adding that his background as an Orthodox Jew has sometimes made him feel like "somewhat of an outsider in society" and thus he never thinks that he should be imposing his viewpoint on others.

And he quips that "with the current political environment, the mainstream media actually seemed like the more moderate atmosphere."

[UPDATE: Ballabon's self characterization doesn't fly with Ira Forman of the National Jewish Democratic Council. Forman tells Capital J that during one forum the two participated in, Ballabon said that Democrats in Washington are evil and Republicans in Washington are good.]

There you have it. Another objective member of the corporate media.

It's good to see he won't have much control... except for his fingerprints showing up on anything and everything CBS Newsy.

Coulter canceled

This and this prove that there is nobody more deserving of cancellation than the Madam's Apple:

Ann Coulter's appearance on the "Today" show has been canceled.

NBC had come under fire for booking Coulter, who had been scheduled to promote her new book, Guilty, on the "Today" show Thursday morning.

Score one for our side. What does the poor Madam have to say about this? Here's her website entry. Please note, the author [sic] can't spell either (Hey Madam, "canceled" has one L):

I guess this ends the "they just want to get ratings" argument about liberal media bias.
