Media hype partial Coach K quote, ignore praise for Obama

The media taking a trumped up partial quote being beaten to death by Fox and run with it? Hard to imagine. h/t John Cole.

Now Mark Halperin is pushing Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski's statement that President Obama should focus on the economy, not filling out college basketball brackets. But as we noted this morning, Krzyzewski was smiling as he said it, and went on to say "I love the guy, and I think he's gonna be great" and "I love the fact that so many people are filling them out."

Obama's Final Four picks revealed

I know nothing about the teams, so are his picks any good?

(CNN) — President Obama's NCAA Men's basketball Final Four picks, unveiled Wednesday, reveals the nation's first hoops fan picked Big East powerhouses Louisville and Pittsburgh, along with Memphis and the University of North Carolina.

In all, the president is taking few risks when it comes to his Final Four teams: Louisville, Pittsburgh, and North Carolina are all No. 1 seeds, while Memphis is seeded No. 2.

But the picks are sure to anger the state of Connecticut, whose Huskies are the only No. 1 seed Obama doesn't have going to the final four.

Obama shoots hoops … at Department of the Interior

By GottaLaff

President Obama returns from a game of basketball on Saturday.
President Obama returns from a game of basketball on Saturday.
B-ball at the D of I:
President Obama and long-time friend Marty Nesbitt shot hoops Saturday at a basketball court inside the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Press aide Ben Finkenbinder, who left the game drenched in sweat, teamed up with Obama on the court. Another Obama staffer and Reggie Love, an Obama aide and former basketball player at Duke University, were also seen leaving the game.

Obama wore workout clothes and a White Sox hat to the game.

Must be a really slow news day.

Like father, like... Sasha Obama Shoots Hoops

By GottaLaff

(unrelated photo via)

Remember when the Republicans were so desperate to win the presidential election that they called Barack Obama a snob? Well, I am here to tell you that they were right! Have you ever seen such highfalutin snootitude as this? What an elitist:
Saturday in the suburbs turned a little bit more exciting than usual for some local parents and children here, as President Barack Obama made a surprise visit to an elementary school to watch his younger daughter, Sasha, play basketball. [...]

The Obamas have said they intend to become a part of the local community now that they live in Washington, but they are also taking pains to keep Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, from too much exposure to the press. In a recent television interview, Mr. Obama, an avid basketball player, happily reported that Sasha had decided to take up the sport.
No word on how she did. It doesn't matter. President Dad was proud, and Sasha knew he made time for her bball game, even though he's been kinda busy.
