We believe that the conditions are such now that we are able to celebrate the victory that we’ve had so far and establish…a strategic framework agreement.

Yes! Just months ago, setting a date for withdrawal was abject capitulation. Today it’s victory! I don’t believe I really have to comment on why this is so painfully stupid. I’d rather start inflating balloons for V-I Day. When do you think the statues of Bush go up in Baghdad’s Firdous Square?

How folksy! IWRC* Palin is using the same clumsy grammar as W. (Once again, Bush III) "You got to"; how quaint. But what's even more Bushtastic is her lapsing right into denial and cherry-picking, resulting in a warped interpretation of events, just like her role model:

Sarah Palin on Saturday denied abusing her power or violating state law in the dismissal of Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, putting her at odds with the findings of a state ethics report that determined she did abuse her power as governor.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee departed her Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday morning, a reporter asked Palin if she abused her power in firing Monegan, which was the conclusion of the state investigator's report released late Friday.

“No, and if you read the read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member," Palin responded before boarding her campaign bus. "You got to read the report, sir."

Here's the thing, IWRC, you are allowed to "replace" someone as governor. But according to the report we "got to read", you are not allowed to do this:

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

IWRC, you got to go.

Barack 'Osama' on Rensselaer County, NY ballots

As someone who's been typing for a trazillion years, I can attest to the fact that the b isn't even in the same typing nerve area as the s. Jeebus. h/t the lovely and talented Tim.

TROY — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's last name is spelled "Osama" on hundreds of absentee ballots mailed out this week to voters in Rensselaer County.

The misspelling, which elections officials on both sides of the aisle insist was simply a typo, is causing embarrassment for the county.

''No question this is an honest mistake innocently done,'' said Edward McDonough, the Democratic commissioner. ''We catch almost everything.''

''This was a typo,'' said Republican Commissioner Larry Bugbee. ''We have three different staff members who proof these things and somehow the typo got by us.''

Officials say the flawed ballots were sent to approximately 300 voters. On row 1A Barack Obama's name is spelled Barack Osama.

Here I am, back again, although a little late in the game. I did manage to infuriate myself with this (Please note his spelling and punctuation. This guy's a genius):

Joe Repya, the retired Lieutenant Colonel who attacked Obama on behalf of the McCain campaign in a statement, maintains a blog, where he has launched harsher, unedited riffs on a theme that McCain has made the centerpiece of his anti-Obama message: Obama is an inexperienced smooth-talker who cares more about politics than patriotism.

For example, on July 9, Repya wrote:

Is it any wonder that Barack Obama continues to look like the light wieght he is? How can American's seriously consider this fraud and his pack of goons as people competent to lead America at time of war? Please give me someone who actually knows what the US military is and is capable of doing. Not some illetist that wouldn't know and Army uniform from a Chicagop hotel doormans uniform.

And a week later:

I've seen some snake oil salesmen in my day, but the latest from Barack Obama has me stymied. Are there any educated, racial, thoughtful people out there that really believe that Barack Obama can eliminate the world of nuclear weapons?

Find me something to throw. Now.

Obama's aides furious at McBlabbermouth

Yesterday, I posted about McBigMouth revealing Obama's Iraq travel plans. I was mad. You were mad. So was Obama's team:

While refusing to confirm or deny anything about Obama's schedule, his aides were furious with McCain's comment. They noted every major news outlet has resisted speculating on the timing or location of Obama's war-zone maneuvers out of safety concerns.

As of late Friday, it remained unclear if McCain's information is correct.

Whether he was correct or not, as was noted in my earlier post, didn't matter. It shows a serious lack of judgment. Apparently, it also didn't matter to McYenta whether he endangered Obama's life.

Former Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, a decorated Vietnam vet and big Obama backer, said he was "surprised" by McCain's apparent breach of protocol.

"I've been around enough of these trips to know that I'm leery of saying anything for security reasons. End of story," Kerry told the Daily News.

Aides to McCain insisted their boss wasn't saying anything that hadn't been publicly reported. They pointed to a Baghdad dispatch Friday afternoon from MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell, who indicated Obama would be arriving in Iraq "shortly," although she explicitly did not mention any specific days.

Hey McAides, here's how important other people thought it was:

An advance team of Secret Service agents assigned to Obama was dispatched to Afghanistan and Iraq days ago to coordinate with U.S. forces on the ground in those countries, a source confirmed to The News.

At the same time, separate Secret Service teams were sent to the Mideast and Europe to prep their counterparts ahead of Obama's campaign-funded trip there next week. "This [security] operation very much rises to the level of a presidential trip," an inside source said.

"We're not going to put anyone's life at risk by disclosing specific times and places in advance," the aide said.

J Sid doesn't "rise to the level of a presidential" anything.

John Sidney McBreach: He divulged Obama's Iraq plans

Republican presidential candidate John McCain said on Friday that his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama, is likely to be in Iraq over the weekend.

The Obama campaign has tried to cloak the Illinois senator's trip in some measure of secrecy for security reasons. The White House, State Department and Pentagon do not announce senior officials' visits to Iraq in advance.

"I believe that either today or tomorrow -- and I'm not privy to his schedule -- Sen. Obama will be landing in Iraq with some other senators" who make up a congressional delegation, McCain told a campaign fund-raising luncheon.

This is who more voters trust on security issues? Are you kidding me? Why not just paint a target on his back, McStupid?

As a knowledgeable insider notes ...

If it is true that Obama is going to Iraq this weekend, it is a very serious mistake for McCain to have disclosed it publically. Even for run-of-the-mill CODELs the military gives guidance like, [...]"Such releases are a serious compromise to OPSEC." If Obama is going to Iraq this weekend, I can not begin to imagine how much this is complicating the security planning for the trip.

It's known that Obama is leaving on his foreign trip this weekend and the Journal OpEd page this morning said that Obama could arrive in Iraq "as early as this weekend." And with a slew of reporters in tow, it's not exactly highly classified information. But there is a reason definite information about these sorts of trips aren't released in advance.

Hypothetically, maybe McCain was just guessing. But even so it would still be a serious lapse of judgment on his part.

It wouldn't be his first. And this is no joke.

Groovy Baby. McCain Still Living In The '60's

This is absolutely hands down my ultimate gripe about campaigns the past twenty years. It may have something to do with my age (I was 7 in "The Summer of Love"), but what it boils down to is-

The Vietnam war is over. Stop fighting it. There are no more DF Hippies, they've all grown up. Soldiers are no longer being spit on (if they ever were), and Dick Nixon was proven to be a crook.

But what caught our attention -- and what will likely be the biggest point of discussion -- is McCain bringing up the '60s. It’s not the first time McCain has invoked the culture wars of that decade. In the primaries, he ran an ad that hit Hillary Clinton on the proposed funding for a Woodstock Museum and highlighted his time as a POW with his debate line, “I was tied up at the time.”

Does the ad play right into Obama's wheelhouse -- to put the '60s behind us? Or does it challenge Obama on that turf? Candidates play to their own strengths and try to make their opponents strengths look like weaknesses. McCain can't change who he is. But this ad will likely only underscore the generational differences between these two.

Candidate Says There's Only One National Anthem (ed note- Does he really have to explain everything to them?)

DENVER -- Barack Obama said there's only one national anthem, and a Broomfield jazz performer should have sung it when she was asked to, instead of another song sometimes called the black national anthem.

Rene Marie set off a wave of criticism throughout the state and the country when she sang the words to "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing" instead of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the mayor's State of the City speech this week.

Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, told the Rocky Mountain News on Thursday that "Lift Ev'ry Voice" is a beautiful song but Marie should have stuck with the national anthem.

Radio Ads Call Democratic Candidate A Racist And An Elitist

From the black conservatives who brought you radio ads two years ago claiming that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican come the new summer blockbusters: ads calling Sen. Barack Obama a racist and an elitist.

King, of course, was an independent, not a Republican -- but that didn't stop the National Black Republican Association (NBRA) from airing their claim on urban radio. Now spots entitled "Arrogant Obama" and "Bitter Obama" are coming to radio stations serving black America, where more than 90 percent of voters supported Obama in Democratic primaries. The NBRA ads will begin airing July 7 in battleground states, according to the group's chair.

Here's a sample of what you might hear on your radio: "Bitter is what Obama called blacks and whites who love God. Racist is what Obama called his white grandmother who raised him and made sacrifices so Obama could get a good education and become a millionaire," says the narrator one of the spots.

"Obama's mentor for 20-years was Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who said innocent Americans deserved to die on September 11th," says the voiceover in another.

The NBRA is led by Frances Rice of Sarasota, Fla., a former Army officer and avowed conservative. Her tactics have led other black Republicans to quit the organization. Christopher Arps, a former spokesman, left the group after disagreeing with Rice about strategy.

Obama gets in works out, hair cut, hoops

Slow news day you say? What makes you think that? Oh, never mind....

CHICAGO—Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama took a break from campaigning Sunday, but still had a busy day.

The Illinois senator managed a 30-minute workout at a gym near his home on the city's South Side, then got a hair cut at the Hyde Park Hair Salon, where he's been a customer for several years. Barber Ishmael Alamin, who was working at the shop, said Obama got "a regular clipper cut."

Obama then returned home to pick up his daughters and take them to the East Bank Club in the River North neighborhood to play basketball, which Obama enjoys playing whenever he can. His wife, Michelle, joined them.

Later, he went to a barbecue at a friend's house a couple of miles from his home.

What, no mention of whether the barbecue was dry rub or sauce? Cole slaw or potato salad? And they call themselves reporters.

John McCain: Psychologist In Chief?

What the hell?

Yesterday, McCain admitted that his offshore drilling proposal would probably have mostly "psychological" benefits, NBC/NJ’s Adam Aigner-Treworgy reports. At a town hall in Fresno that primarily focused on energy issues, McCain was asked a question about the price of gas and the viability of various short-term solutions.

"In the short term I'd like to give you a little relief for the summer on the gas tax," McCain began, referring to his controversial proposal to temporarily suspend the federal tax on gasoline. But then he made a surprisingly candid admission: "I don't see an immediate relief, but I do see that exploitation of existing reserves that may exist -- and in view of many experts that do exist off our coasts -- is also a way that we need to provide relief. Even though it may take some years, the fact that we are exploiting those reserves would have psychological impact that I think is beneficial."

Shorter John McCain- "It doesn't matter that none of the stuff I'm proposing will help you.... oh, look over there!!! A bunny!!"
