Miss California pageant gives ad time to gay group

Yeah!!! Princess Jesus Boobies inadvertently did something nice for the Not Opposite Marriage People.

The Miss California USA pageant director who became embroiled in a war of words with former title holder Carrie Prejean has donated 30-seconds of free ad time to the state's largest gay rights group.

(snip)

Keith Lewis, the pageant's executive director, says he would give Prejean the same amount of time if she wanted to provide a pre-taped message.

Lewis, who is gay, accused Prejean of violating her contract when she ignored his advice on how to handle the intense publicity after she said during this year's Miss USA pageant that she was opposed to same-sex marriage.

VIDEO-- Shuster: "It goes to show how disgusting this entire competition is"

By GottaLaff

David Shuster:
"The only jumping off point is jumping off a cliff if we really believe that people at these pageants have anything worthwhile to say to the rest of us. If you really believe that, then that's your jumping off point, and I suggest you jump off the cliff, 'cause this is as superficial as you'll ever see. It's ridiculous! It's crazy!"
1. Hold beauty pageant.
2. Spark controversy.
3. Hold self-indulgent press conference that features both Carrie Prejean and Donald Trump.
4. Put anchors on the Tee Vee Machine.
5. Expose claws.
6. Rawr!

Quote-O'-The-Day: Cheney/Prejean edition

Referring to this on MSNBC just now, Chris Kofinis said:
"Dick Cheney has become the Miss California of American politics."
Standing O.

UPDATE, bonus quote!
"He is a one-man weapon of mass destruction for the Republican party."

Miss California to James Dobson: 'Satan Was Trying to Tempt Me'

By GottaLaff

http://insidecharmcity.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/phelps-prejean.jpg
Posting from school means I have very little time, a very slow computer that blocks every site imaginable, and therefore, very few options. Commenter Babzter sent this along in an email, which helps enormously. Consider it a follow-up to my previous post. Brought to you by Focus on the Shamily:

Dobson: It sounded, Carrie, like your first reaction was to hedge, to say "Well, this is a free country" and then something took over.

Prej ean: It really was a switch.

Dobson: And you did one of the most courageous things I've seen anybody your age or anybody else do. What was going on in your mind?

Prejean: I started off by saying I want to win this pageant so bad, I've worked so hard, I wanted to sound politically correct but still stay true to my values. But I just knew at that moment that God was just telling me "Carrie, how bad do you want this? Are you willing to compromise your beliefs for a one year crown of Miss USA." And I just knew right there . . . And I said you know what and the switch went off. And I said, "A marriage should be between a man and a woman and that's how it should be. "

. . . . And I knew there was no way I was going to win Miss USA. No way.

Dobson: So you put it on the line, that's what I mean when I said you're courageous because this was the goal of your life to that point. And yet you gave it up. And yet the Lord is using you all over this country.

Prejean: And we are all faced with that at times. And just by me being here, I want to encourage other people that when you're faced with an issue which you know in your heart what to say, but you're faced with someone asking it, don't ever compromise that just for pleasing them. Your goal should be to please God, not to please man . . . .

Dobson: Why did you give the answer you did with regard to the affirmation of marriage?

Prejean: . . . I felt as though Satan was trying to tempt me in asking me this question. And then God was in my head and in my heart saying, "Do not compromise this. You need to stand up for me and you need to share with all these people . . . you need to witness to them and you need to show that you're not willing to compromise that for this title of Miss USA."

And I knew right here that it wasn't about winning. It was about being true to my convictions.

Looks like Miss Cali fits right in with The Family. Her all-American, God-sanctioned message: Satan and Teh Gays are bffs. God only loves those who revere Opposite Marriage. And Carrie's winning a crown in a beauty contest would have pleased God enormously.

Nothing wrong with that logic at all. Nope.

You can listen to the full interview here.

REAL news: Miss California USA directors speak out

By GottaLaff

Carrie Prejean is getting more attention on the Tee Vee Machine right now. The Miss California U.S.A. directors are holding a presser, and they're mad. Liveblogging:
Shame, shame, shame ...for using this woman to promote your own agenda. How sad that your message is so isolating that you grab any glimmer of an ally... even if it means destroying a woman for your own good.... Awfully ironic that Maggie Gallagher donations went into your own pocket... Someone is looking for a free ride, not fair use. ...Used titleholder for your own game... We're getting back to our business of beauty...
They are not happy to say the least. They're saying Miss CA knew what her contract entailed. They went after her and the anti-same-sex marriage group.

Miss California Gets Phone Call From Sarah Palin

By GottaLaff

http://www.alternet.org/images/managed/blogimage_scarrieprejeanlarge.jpg_thumbs_600x438_thumbs_200x146
I can just picture the call now:

Miss CA: Hi, Sarah? Omg! It's me! Carrie!

Sarah: I was just sayin' to Todd how much I enjoyed your message toutin' Opposite Marriage, Carrie, also too you know moreover I'm thinkin' and how.

Miss CA: Me too! ... Wait. ... What?

Sarah: Opposin' gay marriage is a super message, don'tcha know too also moreover you betcha and how. But ya might wanna do something about that whole nude picture thing, ya know furthermore likewise boyoboyhowdy.

Miss CA: Can we, like, just text next time, Sarah? 'K? 'K. 'K? 'K, gotta go. I can't understand a word you're sayeeeng. By the way, may I just say that I'm oddly attracted to you?

Prejean's father William Prejean told E! that the Gov called his daughter to offer up her support, albeit before controversial topless photographs of his daughter went online.

"She called her directly to offer support," says the 58-year-old William Prejean.

Unfortunately he had no details on the conversation and no word what Palin thinks now after the photos.

Sarah: Oohhh, say it ain't so, Carrie, I'm married. But that's real mavericky of ya. On second thought, gosh darn it, why the heck not? But don'tcha go tellin' Todd. He still thinks I'm straight.

Miss CA: Are you free for dinner any time soon?

Sarah: Tell ya what. I'll check and get right back to ya.

VIDEO: David Shuster smacks down anti-gay marriage N.O.M. punditiot

By GottaLaff

David Shuster, thank you for reminding this punditiot that there are laws against discrimination. And for asking how gay marriage could possibly affect straight marriage. And for pointing out his utter lack of logic to his face.

By the way, my marriage to Mr. Laffy is still intact. I can't figure out how, with all Teh Gay wedded bliss out there. I better get out my umbrella, because it's raining gays and a bigger, badder storm is a-comin'!

VIDEO-- "No Offense" is offensive: Miss CA's ad for conservative group

By GottaLaff

Hey kids! Miss California's new ad is out, and TPC has it... unfortunately. "Preserve marriage"! "Protect freedom of speech"! "Protect religious liberty"!

Weird: My marriage has survived despite all those crazy same-sex marriages. I'm not sure how Mr. Laffy and I pulled it off, but we did. Teh Gays and their wacky agenda didn't pull the wool over our eyes, nosireebob!

By the way, all those warnings and panicky exclamatory hollerings cost them $1.5 million. That's $1.5 million less for, you know, worthwhile causes.

"Our mission is to protect marriage and the faith communities that sustain it," the group's executive director Brian Brown said Tuesday. "We want to highlight the very real effects on our liberties and especially on religious organizations, businesses, and individuals." [...]

She is set to join Brown at a press conference Thursday afternoon in Washington for the formal release of the new ad.

In an anticipation of the press conference, the producers and co-executive directors of the Miss California USA pageant issued a statement critical of Prejean's involvement with the National Organization for Marriage. "In the entire history of Miss USA, no reigning title holder has so readily committed her face and voice to a more devisive [sic] or polarizing issue," the statement says. "We are deeply saddened Carrie Prejean has forgotten her platform of the Special Olympics, her committment [sic] to all Californians, and solidified her legacy as one that goes beyond the rights to voice her beliefs and instead reveals her opportunistic Agenda."

Opposite Marriagers sure have their work cut out for them. It's a good thing they have Miss California on their side, or they'd be doomed.

Miss "Opposite Marriage" California to star in TV ad from conservative group N.O.M.

By GottaLaff

The group's last ad, 'A Gathering Storm,' came out earlier this month.
Remember Miss California, that sage, open-minded, inclusive beauty pageant representative of my state who likes opposite marriage better than gay marriage? Looks like her brainless opining paid off. N.O.M.-- remember them, too? Of "Ga(y)thering Storm" infamy?-- has latched on to her the way Virginia Foxx latched on to bigotry:
Carrie Prejean, the Miss USA contestant from California who famously declared her opposition to same sex marriage on the pageant stage, will star in a new $1.5 million ad campaign funded by the National Organization for Marriage. [...]

[She's] become a fresh-faced standard-bearer for the same-sex marriage opponents, who have rallied to her defense.

"Fresh-faced"? That's so darned complimentary and all-American-sounding. How nice that CNN has chosen to describe her that way.

The National Organziation for Marriage has scheduled a press conference with Prejean in Washington on Wednesday to unveil the new ad, called "No Offense."

Of course. Thank you. No offense taken. Never. Why would you even think to say that?

"She is attacked viciously for having the courage to speak up for her truth and her values," the group said in a press release. "But Carrie's courage inspired a whole nation and a whole generation of young people because she chose to risk the Miss USA crown rather than be silent about her deepest moral values."

What a spunky little gem she is.

According to the group, the ad will call "gay marriage advocates to account for their unwillingness to debate the real issue: gay marriage has consequences."

Consequences?! Oh no! Omg! My stable, successful marriage is in real trouble! Everyone's going to become gay! And not just gay, nosireebob! Gay abortionists! Gay divorced abortionists!

Rank this right up there with a Stage 5 swine flu alert. We're all doomed!

Alabama House To Praise Miss California For Anti-Gay Marriage Position

By GottaLaff

http://www.jewcy.com/files/images/gay_marriage_opponents-1-731273.jpg
Via Oliver:
A resolution has been introduced in the Alabama House that praises Miss USA contestant Carrie Prejean for speaking out against gay marriage during Sunday night’s televised pageant.
Because, you know, nothing says patriotism like an Alabaman House resolution touting California Carrie and her opposite marriage blabble. How American, focusing so intently on inequality and such also too.
