When Will the Republican Party Wake Up? Special Comment by my 72-year-old friend

My very caring, impassioned 72-year-old Twitter pal, who goes by the name 42bkdodgr, would like to share his feelings about the Republican party and their apparent self interest at the expense of America's welfare. I am more than happy to oblige.

But first, a personal note from 42bkdodgr:

Many of you may wonder why I chose to use the “ 72 year old friend” as the introduction to my Special Comments. I selected the moniker so readers could see that from my age and life experiences I give a different perspective to the issues of today.

Now for his Special Comment:

When Will They Wake Up

When will the supporters of the Republican Party wake up and realize that the Democratic Party has the people’s interest at heart and not the GOP?

Since the '80s we have seen a dramatic loss of the middle class with the implementation of the “trickle down” economics endorsed by the Republicans. They continue to endorse this economic philosophy and the middle class continues to get smaller and smaller.

Just look at recent events or actions by the Republican Party, and it shows they have little or no concern for the people‘s needs. Their only interest seems to be their ideology, regaining power, and seeing the country fail.

Within the past few weeks we have seen Republicans :

* Fight against a Health Care Reform Bill, especially one with a public option.

* Stall the extension of Unemployment Insurance much needed by those whose insurance is about to expire.

* Senators (30) vote against Al Franken’s Bill that would deny funding to Government contractors who deny their employees the right to go to court when they have been raped by a co-worker.

Sen. Vitter was one of the thirty who voted against the bill, when confronted by one of his constituents as to way he voted against the bill; he couldn’t give an answer, then ran away from his constituent.

* Sen. Vitter propose an amendment to a bill that non-citizens should be excluded in the 2010 Census count, which determines the apportionment of the House of Representatives seats and federal funding.

Sen. Vitter’s amendment will exclude non-resident aliens who have been in this country for many years, and those who are going through the citizenship process.

*The HCR Bill that was released by the Republicans this week has no requirement that people buy health insurance and that the insurance company can deny coverage for a pre-existing condition.

How anyone can support the GOP after the above actions is beyond me.

I can’t imagine that there isn’t a teabagger who doesn’t have a family member or knows someone who is unemployed or has a pre-existing condition that can’t get health insurance, yet still feels the Republican party has their best interest at heart.

Will it take getting hit by a 2 x 4 for the supporters of the Republican Party to wake up and realize who truly has their best interests at heart? As the story goes sometimes it takes getting hit a second time to get someone’s attention.
