D’Arcy won’t attend commencement at Notre Dame

Notre Dame will have to do without a V.I.P. on a very special day. Guess who won't be attending?

Citing President Barack Obama’s “long-stated unwillingness to hold human life as sacred,” the Rev. John M. D’Arcy, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, announced today he will not attend the University of Notre Dame’s 2009 commencement ceremony.

Yes, Reverend,, the president hates life. What an evildoer. That's why he's for stem cell research. That's why he was anti-Iraq War. That's why he's trying to improve health care and our quality of life.

In a written statement today announcing his decision to stay away from commencement this year, D’Arcy never mentions the word abortion.

The bishop said the Rev. John I. Jenkins, Notre Dame’s president, phoned him on Friday to tell him Obama had accepted the invitation to speak at commencement.

“It was the first time that I had been informed that Notre Dame had issued this invitation,” D’Arcy wrote.

“President Obama has recently reaffirmed, and has now placed in public policy, his long-stated unwillingness to hold human life as sacred. While claiming to separate politics from science, he has in fact separated science from ethics and has brought the American government, for the first time in history, into supporting direct destruction of innocent human life,” D’Arcy wrote.

Protect the fetus, ignore the child.

When he signed the [stem cell] order, Obama acknowledged the controversy regarding the research but said he believes the potential benefits to be gained - cures and treatments that could reduce human suffering - outweighed such concerns.

Who cares if living, breathing adults and children suffer and/or die? Again I ask, if a blastocyst and a child were trapped in a burning building, and you had to choose (there's that word again) who would you save?

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to my blastocyst's tee ball game. Oh, they can't? There you go, then.
