George Bush is giving his "final press conference" right now on the teevee and he sounds like a petulant pissy prick who can't understand why people don't see how wonderful he is. Good damn riddance.

Senate Race Update

Wouldn't it be nice to pull Chambliss' seat out from under him?

In Georgia, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution notes the first day of early voting for the run off between Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and Jim Martin (D) began yesterday with elections officials "across the region reporting steady voting -- and, in some places, lines."

In Minnesota, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports Al Franken (D) wants erroneously rejected absentee ballots to be counted in the state's official tally, which will be certified today. Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) leads Franken by 215 votes. A manual recount is scheduled to begin Wednesday.

In Alaska, the Anchorage Daily News notes the vote count begins again with approximately 24,000 left. Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) trails challenger Mark Begich (D) by 1022 votes.

Interesting Georgia Poll Results

Not totally discouraging.

A new SurveyUSA poll in Georgia finds Sen. John McCain ahead of Sen. Barack Obama by eight points, 51% to 43%.

Interesting: "Early and absentee voting began in Georgia on 09/22/08. Among the 18% of Georgia voters who tell SurveyUSA they have already voted, Obama leads by 6 points; among those who have not yet voted, McCain leads by 11."

Bush Invites Obama, McCain to DC to Work on Bailout Bill; Obama Accepts

Uh oh. Stuff like this makes me very suspicious and today that's not very hard.

ABC News has learned that President Bush called Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., this evening and invited him to participate in a meeting about the Wall Street bailout bill tomorrow afternoon in Washington, DC, with other congressional leaders, including Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

Obama accepted the president's invitation, a source tells ABC News.

The invitation comes at an interesting time. The President has not been in the middle of negotiations with Congress, leaving that task to his Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.

Bush Approval Falls to 19%

Bush doesn't seem to be too worried about his legacy though. Can't wait for the door to hit him on the way out. Unfortunately it looks like he's planted a poison garden for President Obama to maintain. Via Taegan.

A new American Research Group poll found that just 19% of Americans approve of the way George W. Bush is handling his job as president and 76% disapprove. When it comes to Bush's handling of the economy, 17% approve and 78% disapprove.

Bush's overall approval rating of 19% is tied for Bush's lowest in ARG monthly polling since Bush took office.
