Conan O'Brien coming to TBS
By GottaLaff
Looks like somebody found a home... on cable. And it's not ClusterFox:
According to a press release sent out by the cable network (which, like CNN, is a unit of Time Warner), the comedian is joining TBS to host a late-night show that is expected to debut in November. O'Brien's show will be followed on TBS' schedule by George Lopez's "Lopez Tonight," which will move to midnight.

Conan on Fox?
By GottaLaff
If Conan ends up on Fox, he would most likely end up airing opposite The Daily Show, per the L.A. Times:
Key Fox executives, including Rupert Murdoch, are on board with the plan and would like to finalize a deal in coming weeks so they can make a splash on May 17 when the network unveils its new fall lineup for advertisers in New York.Several significant issues remain, and the Fox talks could fall apart, according to people close to the negotiations who asked not to be identified because the discussions were meant to be private.
But people close to O’Brien are cautiously optimistic.
“We’ll get there,” one of them said Tuesday.
They also want to spend less money on the show than NBC did. Plus Fox is obligated to air reruns of other shows during the late night slots. That would make Conan's air time vary from market to market, which makes it difficult to promote.
After the expiration of the stations' agreements for sitcoms in late night, the O'Brien show would run at the same time -- likely 11 p.m. The challenge would be getting to the two-year mark by maintaining a large enough audience and enough advertisers to make the show successful.
I'm sure they'll find a way.

Leno set to return to 'Tonight Show'
By GottaLaff

Via an e-mail alert:
Jay Leno is set to return to "The Tonight Show" at 11:35 p.m. unless Conan O'Brien has a last-minute change of heart about hosting the show in a later time period.Yeah, whatever. I never watched to begin with.
UPDATE (h/t: Clancy):
It seems likely that Leno will end up returning to The Tonight Show where he earned the title of the King of Late Night, while O’Brien’s representatives will negotiate a settlement for the 46-year-old comedian to leave the network. It also seems certain that the settlement will involve some sort of compromise that prevents O’Brien from immediately jumping to the competition. Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will continue to air at 12:30 p.m.

Conan O’Brien Says He Won’t Do ‘Tonight Show’ Following Leno
By GottaLaff

After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule. You can read his entire letter here.
Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. [...]
But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. [...]
There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next.
I wonder what the legal repercussions will be.

Leno returns to prime time next month. No word on Conan yet.
By GottaLaff
(via)Ya see, this is real news. Terrorism? Meh. Health care reform? Feh:
Jay Leno's prime-time career on NBC will end on Feb. 12. Whether Conan O'Brien's late-night career with the network will also be ending next month remains to be seen.
Speaking to reporters at the semiannual Television Critics Assn.'s press tour, NBC Universal Television Chairman Jeff Gaspin confirmed the network will move Leno back to 11:35 p.m. when the Winter Olympics concludes at the end of February.
I don't know about you, but I'll be watching something else.
And somehow, Fox has insinuated itself into the conversation:
Although O'Brien would technically keep the title of host of NBC's "The Tonight Show," a 12:05 a.m. program was not what he signed on for and his camp may try to test the waters. There may be costly penalties to him and NBC if he decides to go that route. Fox has whispered it may be interested in O'Brien, but that network would have a tough time persuading their affiliates to jump into late night. Fox may just be trying to make a complicated situation for NBC even more difficult.Must they have their grimy little fingers in everything?

McCain makes fresh late-night swing

I tried to watch, but the minute his head hit the desk I just said no.
NEW YORK (AP) – Republican John McCain has had another turn on the late-night TV comedy circuit, as a guest on NBC'S "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" last night.
Host O'Brien acknowledged that jokes about the 71-year-old McCain's age are themselves getting old. And as McCain pretended to nod off, O'Brien asked for some new material. Instead of "seniority," O'Brien wondered if maybe McCain has a kooky uncle or bad breath or webbed toes. To which McCain replied, "All of the above."
