Palin, though notoriously ill-traveled outside the United States, did journey far to the first of the four colleges she attended, in Hawaii. She and a friend who went with her lasted only one semester. "Hawaii was a little too perfect," Palin writes. "Perpetual sunshine isn't necessarily conducive to serious academics for eighteen-year-old Alaska girls." Perhaps not. But Palin's father, Chuck Heath, gave a different account to Conroy and Walshe. According to him, the presence of so many Asians and Pacific Islanders made her uncomfortable: "They were a minority type thing and it wasn't glamorous, so she came home." In any case, Palin reports that she much preferred her last stop, the University of Idaho, "because it was much like Alaska yet still 'Outside.' "Asians and Pacific Islanders just weren't glamorous enough for her. Damn. If only they were into high heels, lipstick, and hip-waders.

Here's hopes that we'll be able to forget about her after November 4th, too.Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, however, is barely remembered at all.Palin, he said, took his public affairs reporting class, an upper-division course limited to 15 students. "It's the funniest damn thing," Fisher said. "No one can recall her."
In the five years of her collegiate career, spanning four universities in three states, Palin left behind few traces.
"Looking at this dynamic personality now, it mystifies me that I wouldn't remember her," said Jim Fisher, Palin's journalism instructor at the University of Idaho, where she graduated with a bachelor of science degree in journalism in 1987.
"I don't remember her," said Roy Atwood, Palin's academic advisor at the university.
Indeed, interviews with a dozen professors yielded not a single snippet of a memory. [...]
Only a few classmates recalled her, and those with the strongest memories were people she had grown up with in Alaska. [...]
"Everybody liked her, but I could tell she was very calculating," Blackburn said. "We were all very secretive about our talents and how we were going to present ourselves. She was always asking questions, figuring out what she needed to do to get ahead."

Things got emotional during Sen. Barack Obama’s visit to a Michigan community college Tuesday.Hey, he may not be a Compassionate Conservative like George Katrina Bush, but then again, who is? The answer: Thankfully, nobody.Obama met individually with student Marilyn Pace, who is studying dental hygiene, and her financial aid counselor, Marcus McGrew, before speaking with a group of students at Wayne Community College in Taylor, Michigan.
Pace broke down in front of Obama and began crying after explaining the financial stresses she is facing while trying to get her education, help take care of her disabled father, and cope with the costs of commuting to school with the high price of gasoline.
