Guess the Quote: "I follow Twitter for the Tea Party and just show up to f*** with them."

By GottaLaff

If you guessed Anthony Weiner, you would be right.

And he !Gasp! said a bad word... "Tea Party"*:

"I follow Twitter for the Tea Party and just show up to fuck with them."

-- Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY), quoted by the New York Observer. He then added, "No, I don't do that. I just sit at my desk and they send me talcum powder every couple of weeks."

See? He doesn't have to lift a finger to receive death threats. Not so much as a chirp.

*Yes, I know it's two words. Comedic license.

NYPD: Powder sent to Congressman Weiner non-hazardous

Good.

NEW YORK — New York Police Department field tests have ruled a white powder sent with a threatening letter to the Queens office of Congressman Anthony Weiner is not hazardous.

The letter with suspicious white powder was discovered Thursday afternoon at his office in Kew Gardens.

Police say the letter was handwritten in block letters and made a threat related to Weiner's vote in favor of the sweeping federal health care legislation.

Workers were decontaminated as a precaution. More sophisticated lab testing was also to be done to determine the substance.

Report: Hazmat incident at Rep. Weiner's district office

By GottaLaff

My pal Gr8RDH just passed on a tweet from Ben at Politico:

benpolitico: Hazmat incident at Rep. Anthony Weiner's district office.

She said that Talking Points Memo just retweeted it, which means they give it credibility and are repeating the message.

More details when they become available.

UPDATE:

Law enforcement officials say a package with white powder was sent to Congressman Weiner's Queens office today.

A preliminary review shows the letter in part complained about the historic health care legislation passed by Congress this week, according to the source.

NYPD and FBI spokesman are only confirming that they are responding to the scene.

UPDATE BY PADDY- They found the powder to be non-hazardous.

By GottaLaff

ClusterFox must feel so forlorn and scared and stuff now. They'll have to double their cheerleading efforts. Just imagine their impending coverage of immigration reform.

And eeks! Megyn! Think of all the French Commie gay Marxists who will be stampeding to get multiple abortions now. It'll be out of control!!!

Fox host Megyn Kelly breathlessly reported every movement and rallying cry of the protesters, declaring at one point: “Fox News alert! … Protesters are outside and, now we are getting word, inside the U.S. Capitol!

VIDEO: Weiner rips into GOPer who read hoax memo on House floor

By GottaLaff

I officially declare today Rep. Anthony Weiner day (follow links, it's worth it):

[An] obscurely sourced (at best) memo purporting to detail Democrats' messaging plan on health care reform traveled in just a few hours this afternoon from a Republican lobbyist to political reporters to Hill aides and onto high-profile news websites before Democrats beat the story back with cries that the memo was a "hoax."

Here's the memo:

Quite a contrast, isn't it?

Three stories here:

1. Who influences whom.

2. We need real campaign finance reform.

3. We need real SCOTUS reform.

For some excellent Weiner (bygones), watch these videos of him smack down a couple of health care weenies (bygones).

Christian leaders to Congress: Ignore misinformation on abortion, pass health reform

By GottaLaff

The other day on the Rachel Maddow Show, Nancy Pelosi made a point of telling Rachel that health care reform was not just about abortion, it was about saving lives, money, and providing care to millions.

She repeated the positives of the plan and steered Rachel away from concentrating too hard on something that shouldn't be an issue (mainly because Bart Stupak is spreading misinformation; abortion will not be being funded by the government).

Pelosi is one of the few that has insisted on clarifying and laying out the benefits of the bill. Anthony Weiner is another. Their consistent message of what health care reform offers, rather than getting sidetracked by GOP talking points, is something that's been sorely missing over the past year.

Meanwhile, a group of "pro-life" Christian leaders has come out in support of the plan. They're darn pretty clear, too.

Think Progress takes it from there:

Underscoring this point, this week, a group of 25 “pro-life Catholic theologians and Evangelical leaders” sent a letter to Congress urging them to look past the misinformation on abortion and pass health care reform. From their letter:

As Christians committed to a consistent ethic of life, and deeply concerned with the health and well-being of all people, we want to see health care reform enacted. [...]

We are writing because of our concern about the lack of clear and accurate information regarding abortion provisions in the health care reform bill passed by the Senate on December 24, 2009.

Reforming our health care system is necessarily complex, and the provisions related to abortion, or any other issue, require careful examination of the facts as they exist in the legislative language. We believe that the provisions below provide extensive evidence that longstanding restrictions on federal funding of abortion have been maintained. Furthermore, this bill provides new and important supports for vulnerable pregnant women.

The Catholic Health Association also sent a letter (see image above) to Congress urging passage of the Senate bill. They pointed out that millions of Americans would benefit.

Imagine that.

Rep. Weiner: Payment to states last potential deal breaker for House Dems

By GottaLaff

Nobody said this would be easy:

Some House Democrats believe their states would get shortchanged in the overhaul of the nation’s healthcare system and the funding issue is fast becoming a major hurdle to getting a bill signed into law.

How much of a burden states would have to shoulder for a proposed Medicaid expansion is the latest friction point between the House and the Senate, and is threatening to blow a hole in the measure’s price tag. [...]

Lawmakers from these states and others are disgruntled because states that already offer more generous Medicaid coverage would be offered less additional assistance than states with relatively smaller programs. [...]

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) called it the last potential deal breaker from the perspective of House Democrats.

“It’s not so much a problem that Nebraska got [100 percent Medicare reimbursement],” he said. “We in the House thought everyone should get something like that, that we shouldn’t just expand Medicaid and then just cost shift it to the states. It would obviate everything we’re doing on stimulus and everything else by trying to relieve the burden on the states.” [...]

There’s a general sense that we’re compromising a lot of stuff, that the White House is in favor of getting what they can as quickly as we can,” Weiner said.
He said that, in part, based on news of the possible loss of Vote #60, Martha Coakley.

Democrats acknowledged Friday that any agreement they reach in the coming days on the “overall bill” could sidestep politically difficult matters such as abortion and immigration provisions.

There’s going to be follow-up meetings on those issues next week,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) said, explaining that they were being put off in favor of working primarily on the main components of the bill. “Those issues need to be talked about on a member-to-member level.” [...]

Weiner said later that negotiations are “trending” toward the creation of a national health insurance exchange, as favored by the House over the state-based exchange in the Senate bill.
Who's on first?

Seriously, every time I think I've got a handle on the health care negotiations, I realize how behind I am.

Who's on third? I don't know.
I throw the ball to who. Whoever it is drops the ball and the guy runs to second. Who picks up the ball and throws it to What. What throws it to I Don't Know. I Don't Know throws it back to Tomorrow, Triple play. Another guy gets up and hits a long fly ball to Because. Why? I don't know! He's on third and I don't give a darn!

Abbott: What?

Costello: I said I don't give a darn!

Abbott: Oh, that's our shortstop.
And that's our health care reform... so far.

Anthony Weiner's take on Howard Dean's take on health care reform

By GottaLaff

Liveblog of Rep. Anthony Weiner on Countdown:
Lieberman expects the Stockholm Syndrome to take over. The same people who want to contain costs want to remove public option, that would contain costs.

I think there should be a mandate.

It's been a frustrating experience. We worship at the altar of Snowe, Lieberman and Stupak.

I've been reluctant to draw lines in the sand, and there are good things that remain. But we've lost on 3 points:

Woman's right to choose.

Choice in competition.

[Can't rememberthe 3rd, I'm blanking... anyone?]

I'm keeping an open mind. We are in habit of holding a gun to our own head, negotiating with those who don't want health care.

By waiting for future years, remember what happened 40 years ago. We need to get it right the first time.

Keith - Re: Dean: Don't kill the bill, but get what you want through reconciliation.
I agree, but I'm not sure I'd go as far as Dean. Reconciliation means the majority rules. and we've been hearing that it was a last resort. We are at our last resort time on the calendar here. Time to get 51 votes. If they don't like that, well, it's why we were elected, let's go do that. So in that regard, I agree with Gov. Dean.

Lieberman: Liberals are FOR Medicare buy-in? That does it. I'm against it!

By GottaLaff

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:lmgkaq6_Ji07kM:http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/reviews/ksc_cz75/cz_photos/cz75_trigger.jpg

As Steve Benen suggests, maybe it's time for Democrats to "keep one's cards a little closer to the vest".

If the Dems say yes, the Traitor is compelled to say no. That's the kind of trigger he supports:

And he said he was particularly troubled by the overly enthusiastic reaction to the proposal by some liberals, including Representative Anthony Weiner, Democrat of New York, who champions a fully government-run health care system.

"Congressman Weiner made a comment that Medicare-buy in is better than a public option, it's the beginning of a road to single-payer," Mr. Lieberman said. "Jacob Hacker, who's a Yale professor who is actually the man who created the public option, said, 'This is a dream. This is better than a public option. This is a giant step.'"

Be proud, Joe. One person will die every 12 minutes because of your knee-jerk trigger response to oppose Democratic enthusiasm for a plan that could have saved lives.

Here's an option a lot of us could support: Pull Lieberman's chairmanships and wave good-bye.
