I wondered why I was suddenly getting comments about this on my old YouTube of Prez O at Ben's Chili Bowl. Now I know:
Via Gawker (with a h/t to Wonkette), we see that the punditiots are at it again:
See, Barack Obama speaks to white people like this: "Hello whites, let's talk about budgets!" But he talks to black people like this: "I'm Barack from Chicago, (fist pound)." Politico is racist, for real.
I mean, we know Politico is basically a ceaseless factory of Drudge-bait concocted angles, but really. "Dog-whistle politics." This is why black people are hearing all sorts of secret things from Barack Obama that whites are totally oblivious to. Like once when Obama went to Ben's Chili Bowl? And he said "Nah, we straight?" And whites were like OMFG what was that about? But blacks knew what he meant?
Call Homeland Security! Our president communicates in a ultra, superduper, secret black language... but only-- dun-dun-dunnn-- sometimes! Politico:
A video of the exchange became an Internet hit, and there was a clear moment of recognition among many blacks, who got a kick out of their Harvard-educated president sounding, as one commenter wrote on a hip-hop site, "mad cool."
The comment on my YouTube parrots this nearly word-for-word. He called Obama a chameleon. I responded that we're all chameleons.
I added that I went to UCLA, was raised by New York/Philly parents, but sound nothing like them; and, regardless of where I went to college, I've actually lapsed into slang/jargon that doesn't necessarily match my current or past environment. I also noted that the teens I work with, whether upper, middle, or whatever income, fall into street jargon when they're with specific groups of friends.
[W]hat is that thing that Obama's doing with his leg—is he injured? Beyond speech, blacks have picked up certain of Obama's mannerisms, particularly his walk, that signal authenticity. Bush had his cowboy strut, and Obama has a swagger - a rhythmic lope that says cool and confident and undeniably black.
Thanks Politico! Whites would be lost without you.

It’s a good thing The Politico made its only African-American reporter do this article, for authenticity. In case you missed this historic civil-rights advance, “Nia-Malika Henderson, a Newsday reporter and one of the few black print journalists who covered Sen. Barack Obama on the campaign trail, is joining Politico, the political newspaper and Web site that promised to improve its staffing diversity after its sole African American reporter left last month to write a book.”
Oh, and in case you didn't know, President Obama is ::whisper tones::
black. Shhh. Sometimes he sounds positively Harvardian. Especially when he gives formal speeches and isn't hanging out with friends and neighbors eating chili.
