"50 Senators publicly open to using reconciliation"

By GottaLaff

http://croatia.org/crown/content_images/2008/mark_begich_new_us_senator_smile.jpg

Shannyn Moore was on the phone with Mark Begich earlier today. I decided to toddle over to her blog site to see why she tweeted "WOW!" Lo and behold:

OPEN LEFT is reporting Senator Begich as the 50th confirmed vote for reconciliation for health reform. He has just landed in Anchorage and I am trying to confirm with him. [...]

Go to Shannyn's site to see a letter Begich wrote to a constituent.

That makes 50 Senators publicly open to using reconciliation to finish health reform without any maybes. There will be a reconciliation fix to the Senate health bill, as long as the House first passes one.

Oh House? Your turn!

"Shannyn Moore won’t talk to conservatives. Too afraid..."

By GottaLaff

My pal Shannyn Moore has a post up at her place, and this paragraph made me smile:

This week’s taping of Moore Up North was delicious. While driving downtown to Bernie’s Bungalow, I heard a RWNJ talker on one of the radio stations tell his listeners that liberals like Shannyn Moore won’t talk to conservatives. Too afraid…no game…whatever. I laughed and switched back to NPR. This weeks entire panel consisted of Conservative, Republican, Elected Representatives. Oh, and my favorite Conservative, my Pop, was there with my more liberal mother for their first taping! Makes you wonder what else that radio mouth lies about.
The post goes on from there about a Republican who reviews her show, so please go read the rest here.

But don'tcha love the assumptions RWNJs make? And yet they refuse to go on shows like Shannyn's or Rachel Maddow's. Because, you know, they're probably "too afraid... no game...whatever."

VIDEO- Shannyn Moore Show panelist: Palin “A Sociopath?”

By GottaLaff

Shannyn Moore, who you've seen on Countdown with Keith Olbermann and elsewhere also has her own shows on the Radio and Tee Vee Machines.

Here's a tickle-me excerpt from one of her latest, in which an audience member asked "Is Sarah Palin sane?"

Shannyn, now I know why our friendship is blossoming.

"What’s good for the womb is good for the wiener"

By GottaLaff

Spit take

My new pal Shannyn Moore just wrote up a terrific post about the Stup(id)Pak anti-abortion amendment that is a must-read. She asked me for my take on it, and well, it was more of a spit-take. I giggled all the way through it, despite its serious message. She clearly had a, er, ball with it.

Here are a few excerpts, but then, please go read the rest:
The political cross-dressers, also known as “Blue Dogs” not only authored, but voted for the Uterus Police.

The Stupak Amendment ensured no federal funds, or federally funded insurance companies would be used for abortions. [...]

What’s good for the womb is good for the wiener.[...]

You may have seen the ads on TV. America has worked hard to overcome our epidemic of erectile dysfunction (E.D.). Apparently, a blue pill and side by side bath tubs help. Every pregnancy, wanted or unwanted, is a direct result of a man rising to the occasion and saluting their power over gravity. [...]

We have to nip this in the pud. The same members of Congress who voted against the financial stimulus package would be hard pressed to vote against the stimulating more local packages. [...]

The suggestion coming out of Washington is for women to buy supplemental insurance to cover an unwanted pregnancy. Really? Should the other gender do the same? Should the American people pay for personal erector sets? Shouldn’t E.D. medications be considered an out of pocket expense? To use their language, erections have consequences. [...]

As for Congressman Stupak and your “C Street Family Fraternity”; some advice: if you don’t have a vagina, perhaps you ought not to write or vote for such an invasive and offensive amendment. You’re from the wrong district.

Excellent work, Shannyn. Your double entendres will be hard to top, but I'll give it a go:

The shortcomings of this amendment make even the best of us go limp. And let's not get too cocky about it's demise. That would be premature. It may have more endurance than we suspect. In fact, the Dems better not blow this one, or act like pussies... again. This amendment is red meat for the Rushpublics, so we have stiff competition. No more dicking around, we need to defeat this amendment once and for all. We need to come on hard. You know what they say... "spare the rod..."

This is so cool. Our pal at Mudflats, and her pal Shannyn Moore (who is on my Commentator A List), had an MSNBC Excellent Adventure when Shannyn appeared as a guest on Countdown.

Please go read it, because posting excerpts just won't cut it.

Palin camp denies divorce rumors

By GottaLaff

Come on, we barely got a chance to speculate. Golly, there ya go again, you "so-called journalists", spreadin' rumors:
From Governor Palin's Facebook page:
Yet again, some so-called journalists have decided to make up a story. There is no truth to the recent “story” (and story is the correct term for this type of fiction) that the Palins are divorcing. The Palins remain married, committed to each other and their family, and have not purchased land in Montana (last week it was reported to be Long Island).

Less than one week ago, Governor Palin asked the media to “quit making things up.” We appreciate that the more professional journalists decided to question this story before repeating it.

Meg Stapleton
Sarah the Quitter has asked us to quit, so we will. Although I don't trust Stapleton any more than they trust the source of the divorce story.
The release is in response to a ludicrous rumor being spread by Alaskan CNN stringer Dennis Zaki. Zaki, who previously bought into rumors of Trig Truth, picked up these allegations from the same source - the rabidly anti-Palin, Trig Truth-espousing anonymous blogger "Gryphen" of the blog "Immoral Minority". Gryphen is a friend of Zaki's, along with fellow Team Truth members Shannyn Moore, Phil Munger, and "AKMuckraker" of the Mudflats.
Ohhh, so it's back to guilt by association (Team Shannyn/Mudflats), huh? They've been pallin' around with Gryphen who's been pallin' around with Zaki.

Team Quitter really doesn't seem too fond of two of my favorite bloggers. But, hey, I'm posting this out of fairness to the Quitter camp. But shhh, I happen to admire Shannyn and all those wacky Mudflatters. I'd pal around with 'em if I lived in Alaska.

It's Not Sarah's Fault...Just Ask Her

By GottaLaff

Shannyn Moore chronicles the many denials of Sarah the Quitter. Here are a few of them, but please, go here for the entire list. It's mind-boggling how this wispy-brained froth fragment even dresses herself:

A 10 Month Accounting of Blame...

Troopergate was her brother-in-law's fault.

Walt Monegan was a rogue commissioner. [...]

When her church was burned, Palin blamed it on the attention she was receiving from people who didn't like her. [...]

When an Anchorage based right wing radio host disagreed with her policies, in an email she blamed it on, "...some evil stuff going on with him." [...]

Her daughter's problems are Levi's fault.

Her VP political loss was John McCain's fault.

Her image problems are Tina Fey's fault. [...]

Her failed appointment of a "if you can't rape your wife, who can you rape?" secessionist, gun toting attorney general, Wayne Anthony Ross, was the fault of the Alaska bloggers. [...]

She has half a million dollars in personal legal bills and must resign, blaming ethics complainers for her expense...but those legal bills will be paid in full, courtesy of her massive legal defense fund. [...]

It's Rahm Emmanuel and President Obama's fault that Sarah Palin has constituents who think she sucks at her job.
There ya go, guys and gals. Now if you'll excuse me, I've gotta hop into my hip waders and go fishin'. AlsoTooMoreoverSuchAsAnd how.

And if I trip over my own words, fall into the water and drown, it'll be all your fault.

Sarah Palin's pick for AK's Attorney General: “If a guy can’t rape his wife…who’s he gonna rape?” Part 2

By GottaLaff

I got a huge response to this post:

Sarah Palin's pick for Alaska's Attorney General: “If a guy can’t rape his wife…who’s he gonna rape?”
In that post, I linked to Wayne Anthony Ross's response to Leah Burton's testimony about Palin's terrible Attorney General pick. But this is far from over. Check this out (I strongly suggest you follow the link to read the entire letter), via the wonderfully astute and very thorough Shannyn Moore:

From Leah Burton’s Dad:

Mr. Ross,

You may or may not remember the times when we met but I remember you very vividly. The purpose of this communication is over concern for my daughter first and your attempt to be confirmed as the Attorney General, a job for which I know you had long aspirations, as well as thinking you could be the Commissioner of Health and Social Services or the Commissioner of Public Safety, none of which you are qualified for.

I was told today that you deny knowing or associating with the Mad Dads group in Wasilla. Surely records of filings in the court must still be available so that you can produce proof of who you clients were. This, is the same group that my daughter witnessed you addressing and making sexist and demeaning comments in reference to spousal rape and domestic violence, which as I see it means physical abuse of the spouse by the husband. Considering the group to which you were speaking that is the only logical conclusion one could draw from such remarks. I’m also assuming that you may have made these remarks in order to appear as a macho man in front of such a gathering. First of all, I want to caution you on what you say but can’t prove and to advise you that if this kind of slander and attacks on my daughter continue you may well meet a real attorney that knows how to win.

In over 30 years in law enforcement in Alaska, as a police advisor for the U.S State Dept and the Dept of justice, I have met and worked with many quality professionals in the field and let me say that you do not rank among this group. I worked the street as a young patrol officer starting in Ketchikan in 1954, joined the Alaska State Police in 1959 and ended my career by serving two separate terms as Commissioner of Public Safety for the 2 best Governor’s in Alaska, Jay Hammond and Wally Hickel. (In the interest of brevity I will attach my resume for you perusal as I want to establish my bona fides for the remarks I am about to make).

You sir, speak and act like the kind of bully I met many times when responding to domestic violence calls, some of the most dangerous situations police officers are often in. Over the years I brought many an abused spouse and/or children to my own home for my wife to care for, because there was no place else to take them. [...]

Contrary to what you recently told the Judiciary Committee about the Child Welfare workers being hell bent on taking kids away from their families my personal experience was just the opposite. I had to take many children into protective custody,. and even in the most dangerous of situations the welfare workers attitude was that a child was always better off staying with their natural parents regardless of the circumstances. Not a decision that I could always agree with. Therefore I am totally surprised as your comments and I challenge you to provide actual proof that supports that allegation.

[...] The bottom line in this case we found that children were being left in home circumstances in many cases when the right thing to do would have been removal. This resulted in changes of the child protection statutes and policies of the agencies concerned which also included the relationship between children and adult probation sharing of information.

The only conclusion I have been able to come to concerning your remarks about the “frightening” case works is that you really don’t know what you are talking about and are just talking to try to impress someone that you may have an some knowledge about the subject.

In light of the strong reaction from the native and rural communities of the state and your obvious position and bias relative to domestic and children’s issues I find it hard to believe that you could be in charge of the department that is charged with enforcing laws in an impartial or effective manner. I think you should do the state a favor and withdraw your name from confirmation.

Richard L Burton

Commissioner of Public Safety (retired)

RESPONSE BY WAYNE ANTHONY ROSS:

Dick: Thanks for writing. I’ll pray for you and for your daughter. Sounds like both of you have problems. My best to you old friend, WAR

Flippant much, WAR? And where in your response letter did you deny or defend anything that Mr. Burton said about you?

Oh, that's right, nowhere. We'll pray for you (even us atheist commies). Sounds like you have problems.

[Laffy Note: Shannyn has appeared on The Rachel Maddow Show and Countdown (if I'm not mistaken), among others. She's a credible, thorough liberal commentator, observer, radio personality, and activist. Go here to read more about her.]
