Why Republicans should back Obama's recovery plan

Marc Ambinder tells us why vulnerable Republicans should support President Obama's recovery plan. Here are some excerpts:

President Obama's approval rating is about 70%;

Congressional approval is still around 20%; [...]

The public approves of the stimulus plan by a very large margin - the numbers vary with the wording of the poll question, but it's at least a plus 40%.

Obama is the most talented political figure of our generation - Boehner and McConnell are, uh, less talented.

Obama's got the megaphone, they've got... [...]

Obama has done everything reasonable, and more, to move toward non-P-partisanship. The overwhelming impression he's leaving for voters is one of reasonableness and accommodation.

"I won." Translation: Voters elected Obama president because they supported his proposals. By reflexively obstructing those, Republicans obstruct the will of the voters, and therefore their chances in the next election. It's certainly not as if Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy worked, au contraire. Americans are sick and tired of failed, ill-thought-out, self-serving policies.

It's time for the people to win.
