Poll-itics: Obama gets sky high approval, leadership ratings; Republicans? Not so much

By GottaLaff

Apparently, newly anointed GOP leader Rush Limbaugh is having a real effect on Prez O's poll numbers-- a positive one:
The latest CNN/Opinion Research poll finds President Obama with sky high approval ratings and very similar to the Gallup poll released earlier today.

Obama gets an amazing 76% approval rating with 80% saying he's is doing a good job providing leadership for the country. Even 61% say he's doing a good job choosing his cabinet, though he's obviously had some problems with his appointments lately.

Republican leaders need to pay attention to their own numbers: 60% approve the job congressional Democrats are performing, versus 44% who say the same of congressional Republicans. In addition, 74% say Obama is doing enough to cooperate with Republicans, while just 39% say the Republicans are doing enough to cooperate with him.
Who are those 39%? The Republicans haven't so much as budged, and 39% think that's cooperating? They give a whole new meaning to the word "lenient". I'm guessing those same people encourage their toddlers to throw oatmeal at Denny's food servers, and reward their teens for shooting out car windows with BB guns.

Why Republicans should back Obama's recovery plan

By GottaLaff

Marc Ambinder tells us why vulnerable Republicans should support President Obama's recovery plan. Here are some excerpts:

President Obama's approval rating is about 70%;

Congressional approval is still around 20%; [...]

The public approves of the stimulus plan by a very large margin - the numbers vary with the wording of the poll question, but it's at least a plus 40%.

Obama is the most talented political figure of our generation - Boehner and McConnell are, uh, less talented.

Obama's got the megaphone, they've got... [...]

Obama has done everything reasonable, and more, to move toward non-P-partisanship. The overwhelming impression he's leaving for voters is one of reasonableness and accommodation.
"I won." Translation: Voters elected Obama president because they supported his proposals. By reflexively obstructing those, Republicans obstruct the will of the voters, and therefore their chances in the next election. It's certainly not as if Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy worked, au contraire. Americans are sick and tired of failed, ill-thought-out, self-serving policies.

It's time for the people to win.

Poll-itics: Everyone Loves Obama, Even Republicans edition

By GottaLaff

President Barack Obama speaks to reporters during his visit ...
(via)
Diageo/Hotline poll results, via TPM:

Obama's favorability rating stands at 76 percent, with a job approval rating of 63 percent. Even Republicans have a generally positive view of the new president, with a plurality saying they approve of his job performance. So far, Democratic approval of Obama is nearly universal.

Overall, Americans are also supportive of the economic stimulus package Obama has asked Congress to pass. After learning the details of its provisions, more than two-thirds of respondents said they at least somewhat supported the package. But partisan rifts do exist. Democrats were inclined to support the legislation - 58 percent of them strongly - while Republicans were split about evenly.

Plunging numbers! Slippage! What an abysmal failure. If only he would accomplish something already.
