TBPNTOTV!!!* has some competition, as you can see by the video. [UPDATE: YouTube deleted my 1-minute video of the Daily Show's "Best f***ing political team in the business", saying it was copyright infringement] This week's team -- Gloria Borger, The Hotline's Amy Walter and Ed Henry -- better watch out... their jobs are in jeopardy. Bwahahaa!
Wolf: It's the week of the flip-flops! Let's show a clip of Obama flip-flopping first! He brought up the RACE CARD! [dun dun dunnn]
Gloria: He realizes race is an issue. He's talking about it a little more, so why not bring it up with a little bit of a sense of humor?
Ed: It's also the inexperience issue, and his "feisty wife". People will appreciate that, Bush does that, makes jokes about his family. It's about not dancing around it, putting these issues on the table, meet these things head on.
Amy: There still hasn't been a debate on the issues... on the economy, health care, which are good for Dems, character issues. Character issues have gotten Dems in trouble.
Wolf: Huckabee says Rs shouldn't demonize Obama.
Gloria: He's right. We've seen that the voters reacted against negative campaigning this time.
Amy: Look at the primaries. They didn't work.
Wolf: Swiftboating worked IN 2004.
Ed: True. That's why Obama is meeting the attacks head on. Hillary kept attacking Obama's inexperience, and it didn't work. McCain will have to define himself, not by beating Obama up.
Gloria: The candidates can take the high road, let surrogates take the low road.
Wolf: Raising money, public funding.
Gloria: Bottom line, Obama made a tactical decision, that he could raise more money. Some say it shows he's tough, Rs say that it's a character issue. It may work, saying that he's not a man of his word, or a reformer.
Ed: It raises questions, but Obama's spending in states that Dems don't usually spend in. They can register people, put up TV ads, and McCain will have to compete.
Amy: Bigger issue: First it was the flag pin, then it's town hall meetings, then campaign finance reform. Who is this guy? They bring up the issue of inexperience.
Wolf: Female voters.
Amy: Women voters who were upset, but we found that Obama's approval is 20 points higher than Bill or Hillary Clinton's.
Ed: She gave a powerful speech, but now, how do you convert that to support? Plus, can they be a ticket?
Gloria: Will he help her pay her debt? And she can help him. There's no agreement yet, on how he'll help her.
Wolf: Dream ticket?
Amy: It fell off the table. It doesn't make sense, to have her if he wants to stick with the change message.
Wolf: Wives, this week, in the media. Cindy, Michelle... should they be off limits?
Gloria: Nothing is off limits any more. The wives understand that. The public looks at the wife to see what it tells you about the candidate, what does the relationship say about him? It's a factor.
Wolf: They want to feel confident.
Ed: A spouse can help or hurt. Bill Clinton hurt this time around. Wives are fair game, but dirty tricks aren't.
Amy: Voters don't pick one issue. Getting a better picture helps.
OVPICYMIS!!!*
Lindsey Graham: Obama signed his name for public financing, broke his word. Reinforces everything wrong in politics, it's a game changer.
Joe Biden: He has been a game changer, special interests aren't part of his camapign. He has an incredible appeal that nobody anticipated.
Carly Fiorina: We've never had $4 a gallon of gas before. Or the cost of a barrel of oil doubling. McCain says we need to take control of our own energy future, by tapping our own resources.
Ed Markey: This crisis is caused by Republican control for 12 years.
Kay Bailey Hutchinson: Drilling can be done safely. But any production is killed by the Democrats.
