Domenici: "Economic destruction" if we don't drill

By GottaLaff

Petey Domenici says we'll be in dire straits if we don't drill for oil in pristine areas that won't yield enough oil to make an appreciable difference. Petey Domenici is scared. In fact, he's never been more frightened. Yes, that Petey Domenici, the one involved in the U.S. Attorney scandal. The one with dementia.

Veteran Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) issued a stern warning Wednesday to press for expanding domestic oil drilling, saying he has “never been more frightened for our country’s future than I am today.”

“Unless we act quickly to expand America’s supply of oil and gas, we will continue to grow poorer and poorer by the day,” said Domenici, who is serving his 36th and final year in the Senate.

Yes, "hostile regimes" will take over if we fail to drill here in the U.S.A. About those benefits:
[A] 2007 analysis by the agency concluded that opening up drilling in the moratorium area “would not have a significant impact on domestic crude oil and natural gas production or prices before 2030.” [...] “It’s like walking an extra 20 feet a day to lose weight,” he said. “It’s just not enough to make a difference.”
Be afraid. Be very afraid. Doomsday is coming.

The senator said that the country faces “economic destruction” unless it changes course.

“If you think I’m exaggerating, consider that, at today’s prices, we will be sending over a half-trillion dollars overseas per year,” Domenici added. “That’s serious money, and a lot of it is being put in the hands of hostile regimes.”

The senator said he remains hopeful that the two parties can come together to tackle the issue.
“We must challenge the Democrats to work with us,” Domenici added. “But if not, we must sell this to the American people.”

Never mind the environmental damage it would do. Never mind the positives of investing in domestic alternative energy sources. Domestic, Petey. Longterm solutions, Petey. That's what you should be "selling to the American people", not used cars.

Oh, and Petey?
Environmental destruction leads to "economic destruction" many times over. Welcome to 2008.
