"Gay dog" refused entry to restaurant

By GottaLaff

A restaurant actually turned away a blind man because a waiter thought his guide dog was "gay". No kidding.

"I'm sorry, but Fido's clearly into same-sex doggy love, so you can't eat here." I've heard of homophobia, but this is ridiculous:

The restaurant's owners said a misunderstanding had arisen between [Ian] Jolly's female companion and a waiter who understood the woman "to be saying she wanted to bring a gay dog into the restaurant".

"Gay dog", "guide dog". I guess in Australia, they sound similar.

Of course, it's common knowledge that anyone who pets a gay dog turns gay. And that's the worst thing that could happen to anyone! Ever! Especially at a restaurant!

Wait. Maybe it was really a transgender dog. What then?

So what was the big misunderstanding?

"The staff genuinely believed that Nudge was an ordinary pet dog which had been desexed to become a gay dog," the owners said in a statement to South Australia's Equal Opportunity Tribunal.

Desexed? So if you spay or neuter your pet, that switches him/her over to the other team? Why, it's like magic!

The restaurant has been ordered to apologize and pay up.

Now, had the Condom Canine shown below wandered in, I could see kicking him out for ruining appetites due to exposure to bad taste:

VIDEO: President & Michelle Obama eat lunch in the Asheville RAD

By GottaLaff

President Obama & his wife Michelle came back as promised to eat Barbeque at 12 Bones in the Asheville RAD. (River Arts District) He tried the Blueberry Chipotle & she, the Brown Sugar Rubbed Ribs with greens & baked beans. We are honored to share our neighborhood with the First Family.

Wow that sounds good!

I never get tired of watching the Obama family, especially at casual restaurants. Why is that?

And now I'm hungry. Thanks, Obamas.

Palin is one of us! Except for eating at one of world's priciest restaurants

By GottaLaff

http://images.politico.com/global/click/091028_palin_ap_392_regular.jpg

The way she talks: So folksy.

The way she quits: So winky.

The way she breaks promises: So blamey.

The way she wears fish waders: So photo-oppy.

The way she panders: So Barbie McLipSchmutzy.

The way she misrepresents herself: So daily...
Last week, while in New York City, Palin dined at Serendipity 3, a restaurant in one of Manhattan’s swankier sections. [...] It’s famous for the "Frrozen Haute Chocolate," a sundae composed of edible gold and 28 different cocoas from across the globe. This treat, which costs $25,000, holds the Guinness world record for most expensive dessert. [...]

Not only was she in one of the more expensive corners of the Big Apple (a city she promised ‘true’ Americans she would not visit during her book tour, on account of its elites); she was dining at a restaurant where just one item costs more than what many of her supporters will make in a year. Maybe more than twice what some of them will make.
There now. That should appeal to all those regular folk who Barbie claims to adore pallin' around with, except when she abandons them.

Eating in fancy schmancy elitist restaurants: Priceless.

Restaurants to Obama: Dine Out Around Washington More Often

Doing their bit for the economy, one burger at a time.

Be it a $7 burger from Ray's Hell Burgers in Arlington, Va., or a $300 date night at the posh Michel Richard Citronelle in Georgetown, President Obama isn't just revitalizing Washington's restaurant scene. He seems to be helping the nation's eateries. "As we all look for ways to improve the economy and create jobs, we thank you for your recent restaurant visits and encourage you to continue enjoying time at one of our almost one million restaurants across the country," Dawn Sweeney, president and CEO of the National Restaurant Association, penned in a letter to Obama.

Seems she thinks that more presidential trips could spark better business during the economic downturn, and she's calling on Obama and his team to eat out more often. Already Obama has dined off the White House campus more than former President Bush did, and expectations are that he and Michelle Obama and the vice president, too—will continue to grab bites around town.

'Obama fried chicken' joints ruffle feathers in New York

Did the owners of these places really think they would be ignored? They're using the President of the United States' name commercially, for one. And second, um, racial stereotyping? Hello?

I wonder if they would have put up a McCain Fried Chicken sign if J Sid, heaven forbid, had been elected:
Two New York City fried chicken restaurants in predominantly black neighborhoods are under fire for putting President Obama's name on their signs.

City Councilman Charles Barron said Friday that he would organize a demonstration next week outside Obama Fried Chicken in his Brooklyn district. Organizers said they also may target Obama Fried Chicken & Pizza in Harlem.

"People from the community were calling me and saying they were outraged by this racist connection to Barack Obama and fried chicken," Barron said. "If you think that free speech gives you the right to insult and degrade us and stereotype us, then you've got a battle on your hands."

At Obama Fried Chicken & Pizza on Friday, the "O" and the "A" had been filled in so that the awning sign read "Bam" instead of the president's name. [...]

[T]he owner promised the sign would change on Sunday. If it doesn't, McCall and Barron say, they will rally on Monday.

The White House did not comment on the racial controversy over the New York restaurant names, but spokesman Ben LaBolt said the administration disapproves of using "the president's name and likeness for commercial purposes."

VIDEO: Orange County, CA Customers Outraged Over Restaurant's "Obama Room"

By GottaLaff

What did you expect from the O.C.?

The owner of a local restaurant that plays off its name -- "The Anaheim White House" -- has gotten some unexpected backlash after he named a room after President Barack Obama.

Bruno Serato says being bipartisan is part of his marketing plan that includes naming the rooms in his establishment after all kinds of presidents like Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.

He says none of them ever caused any controversy.

So, he figured naming a room after President Obama would be the same.

Wrong. The usual "weak" and "marxist" adjectives were tossed around in the "plethora of complaints" he received. Dittoheads, maybe?

Serato turned the negative e-mails around and contacted the media as well as his associates in an attempt to receive more business. So far, that appears to be working.

Excellent tactic.

I assume the e-mailers weren't part of the 65-70% who gave President Obama their approval.

VIDEOS: "Check Please!"-- Obama's lost episodes

By GottaLaff

Check this out: Our next president was on the Tee Vee Machine as an amateur restaurant critic:

In August, 2001, President-elect Barack Obama did a turn as amateur restaurant critic for a local Chicago television show called "Check, Please!". The premise of the show was that each week three amateur reviewers were invited to pick their favorite restaurant and review it, then they would review the picks of the other two critics.

After taping an episode with a local firefighter and a retail buyer, Obama's segment was shelved...until now. The vintage clip will be aired on January 16th.

The Chicago Tribune has more:
[T]he president-elect was too good--too thoughtful, too articulate, not enough of an amateur. He ended up dominating the conversation.

"It was unbalanced," Manilow said, "to put it charitably."

In other words, he was overqualified and realized he'd be better off as president of the United States. Here, he reviewed Dixie Kitchen and Bait Shop in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago:

The episode will air on January 16th at 8:00PM on WTTW.
