20 states resist creating pools to help people denied health insurance

By GottaLaff

Big Government will have to keep people alive, because the Party of No won't. I hope voters are paying attention:

As many as 20 states probably will not operate new insurance programs for Americans who have been denied health coverage, forcing the federal government to step in to implement one of the key elements of the healthcare overhaul legislation, according to administration officials. [...]

Led by the Georgia insurance commissioner, however, a succession of mostly Republican state officials has been rejecting the idea of creating state pools, voicing concerns that state governments would end up having to pay some of the costs of operating them over the next 3 1/2 years. [...]

Consumers will be eligible for the new pools if they have preexisting medical conditions and have not had insurance for at least six months.

Don't Republicans have preexisting conditions, or are they reserved for commie Marxist Democrats?

Top markets for internet porn: Red states win!

By GottaLaff

Mirror, mirror, on the ceiling, who are the biggest porn lovers of all?

Which Americans are the sneak-a-peek geeks?

Who whines and screams at the evil letters "XXX" while hunkered over the come-hither glow of their trusty laptops in a dark room late at night while the kids are asleep?

Why, the very people who condemn birth control, marriage equality, and momentary flashes of nipple on network Tee Vee!

Gimme an H! Gimme a Y! Gimme a P! Gimme an OCRISY! Whaddya got? HYPOCRISY!

Published in the Journal of Economic Perspectives, a report released earlier this year entitled "Red Light States: Who Buys Adult Entertainment" highlights where the revenues for pornographic entertainment on the Internet actually come from. According to AVN Media Network , Internet sales are the second largest piece of the $12.6 billion adult entertainment industry, drawing $2.84 billion in 2006.

The Great Irony of Health Care Reform

I'm pretty sure Kos has been saying this for a while, but they don't pay attention until a non-DFH parrots it. Via Taegan.

The National Journal looks at the percentage of people who are uninsured in each Congressional district and notes: "If health care reform passes, many of the districts that benefit most from the federal subsidies to expand access to coverage will be those represented by members who voted against the bill."

4 Red States, 30 Blue States

I like these odds.

An analysis of Gallup Tracking Poll data finds just four states "show a sizeable Republican advantage in party identification, the same number as in 2008. That compares to 29 states plus the District of Columbia with sizeable Democratic advantages, also unchanged from last year."

Massachusetts is the most Democratic state in the nation, along with the District of Columbia. Utah and Wyoming are the most Republican states.

The Heraldic Crest of the Teabag Revolution

No, I'm not kidding. The Red State Rangers or whatever they were calling themselves before Rick Santelli faked up his umbrage, have to be the most obtuse klatch of people ever.

Poll-itics: Obama Really Popular...In Two Deep-Red States

By GottaLaff

To add to Paddy's post below, check this out:

President Obama's isn't just coming into office with really highly popularity nationwide -- he's apparently coming into office with really high popularity in states he lost by landslides last November. [...]

• Texas: Approve 62%, Disapprove 35%. This includes 41% strong approval, and 19% strong disapproval.

• Tennessee: Approve 60%, Disapprove 35%. This includes 39% strong approval, and 21% strong disapproval.

For reference, John McCain carried Texas by a 55%-44% margin, and won Tennessee by 57%-42%.

Change is one thing. Transformation is another.*

*I always like to qualify these with a big "for now".

Quote-O'-The Day: Obama draws huge crowds in Republican states edition

By GottaLaff

"It doesn't matter that it's a Republican state, he can still bring 'em in!"
--Candy Crowley just now on CNN, remarking at the size of the crowd at a packed Obama rally in Virginia.

Obama Making Gains in Red States

By Paddy

Via Taegan, these are really nice early numbers.

According to recent polls, Sen. Barack Obama is doing extremely well in states that have voted Republican in recent presidential elections.
