VIDEO- John McCain on maverick denial: "I prefer great American"

By GottaLaff

From the Department of Boxing Yourself Into Corner:

On Fox News Sunday today, host Chris Wallace played a series of clips of McCain referring to himself as a “maverick” and asked how he could say that he never considered himself one.

New McCain Squirmage Rule: If you can't wiggle out of in-your-face evidence that contradicts lies you've told-- about yourself-- morph your message into one that sounds less dishonest.

Viewer Rule: Nice try, J Sid. McCainFail. "You lie!"

McCain the Maverick is Back

I thought "maverick" had been banned? At least he's causing problems for the R's so far and not the President. Via Taegan.

The Washington Post says "a joke made its way around the Capitol yesterday: How do you know the 2008 election is really over? Because John McCain is causing trouble for Republicans again."

Less than three months since his defeat, McCain "bears more resemblance to the unpredictable and frequently bipartisan lawmaker they have served with for decades than the man who ran an often scathing campaign against Barack Obama. In some instances, he's even carrying water for his former rival."

McCain on Larry King Live last night: ""These are difficult times and whatever way I can assist and work with the president of the United States, I want to do it. And again, the American people are tired of the bitter partisanship."

Annual 'Banished Words' List Unveiled

The whole list is here, but I'd as soon remove the word maverick from the English language completely after this last year. I agree wholeheartedly on the following-

  • maverick
  • first dude
  • bailout
  • Wall Street/Main Street
  • desperate search
  • not so much

McCain scolds GOP for whacking Obama

Seems like Senator McCain has returned from his trip to the dark side and decided to get back to his real mavericky ways. This is not going to endear him to the Palinites.

In a surprising rebuke to the warriors who fought for him through tough times, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Sunday sided with President-elect Barack Obama and scolded the Republican National Committee for fanning the Illinois corruption scandal.

On ABC’s “This Week,” host George Stephanopoulos asked: “The chairman of the Republican National Committee, Mike Duncan, has been highly critical of the way President- elect Obama has dealt with this.
"He's had a statement every single day, saying that the Obama team should reveal all contacts they've had with Governor [Rod] Blagojevich. He says that Obama's promise of transparency to the American people is now being tested. Do you agree with that?”

McCain replied: “I think that the Obama campaign should and will give all information necessary. You know, in all due respect to the Republican National Committee and anybody — right now, I think we should try to be working constructively together, not only on an issue such as this, but on the economy stimulus package, reforms that are necessary. And so, I don't know all the details of the relationship between President-elect Obama's campaign or his people and the governor of Illinois, but I have some confidence that all the information will come out. It always does, it seems to me.”

Willard Romney: Obama is not a socialist

    By GottaLaff

    What a rogue!

While John McCain's campaign has tried to tie its Democratic rival to socialism, one of the Arizona Republican's top surrogates said Barack Obama is not a socialist. [...]

    “You know, I don’t think Barack Obama’s a socialist..."
Of course, he went on to disagree with Obama's positions, but oops! I guess this makes him a maverick, a diva, or a whack job.
