Eliot Spitzer May Run for Comptroller

By GottaLaff

http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/eliot_spitzer.thumbnail.jpg

Spitzer has been all over the Tee Vee Machine lately, so you know something had to be up:
Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D), "who stepped down from the governor's office amid scandal, is now strongly considering a run for state comptroller," sources tell the New York Post.

"Spitzer has in recent weeks had discussions with some Democratic donors and insiders about the position currently held by Tom DiNapoli."

"It's unclear whether a Spitzer candidacy would rely on a Democratic donor base, or if the former governor -- whose family is wealthy -- is thinking of pouring his own dough into a campaign. It is also unclear if he would challenge DiNapoli in a primary, or if he's considering running as an independent."
So it's a maybe, perhaps, could-be situation. Clear?

Manhattan "Madam" would challenge Spitzer if he ran for office

By GottaLaff

http://www.topnews.in/files/Eliot-Spitzer201.jpg

Let the one-liners begin:
Kristin Davis -- the Manhattan "Madam" who provided former New York Gov Eliot Spitzer (D) with "escorts" -- says she might run against him if he attempts a political comeback.

Writes Davis: "If he runs for public office I may have to run myself to focus attention on the multiple illegal acts for which he has not been punished, his abuse of women and the SEXISM in the way he walked away scot free while I went to Rikers for four months for supplying him with 'company'."
Is this a trick? Or is he screwed? You can be cock-sure this will be, at minimum, a hotbed of soundbites. Suck on that for awhile, if you will.

Some comeback.

Can we put this one to bed now?

Poll-itics: Eliot Spitzer's prospects

By GottaLaff

http://blog.nj.com/ledgerarchives/2008/03/large_eliot.JPG

Earlier today, Paddy posted about Eliot Spitzer's mulling a comeback. While he's at it, he might want to mull this:
With Eliot Spitzer reportedly considering a comeback, a new SurveyUSA poll in New York looks at his electoral prospects.

The poll finds that 15% of voters said they'd vote for Spitzer again no matter what office he sought, 47% said they might vote for him and 39% would never vote for him under any circumstances.
That's 62% who would consider him seriously. I know 'cause I did the math.

Eliot Spitzer Mulling Comeback

Oh dear god, just stay a pundit and stop the madness.

Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D) "has been privately talking with friends about a possible comeback, and is considering a run for statewide office next year," the New York Post reports.

"Less than 18 months after he left Albany in a prostitution scandal, Spitzer has held informal discussions in recent weeks about the possibility of making a bid for state comptroller or the US Senate seat currently held by Kirsten Gillibrand, sources said."

Spitzer declined comment.

All dolled up: Joe the Action Figure, Beach Blanket Obama, Sarah Palin Schoolgirl

By GottaLaff

As much as I hate to subject you to this kind of thing, I feel obligated to keep you informed:

Forgive me? No? Well, think of the fun you'll have! Imagine the confrontations between Beach Blanket Obama and Super Hero Sarah over media treatment! If only they'd come up with Self-Pitying Sarah and Joe the War Correspondent.

Please note the equal opportunity dollage: John Edwards in a "Rogue" tee, Biden in a "Joe the V.P." outfit, and Spitzer sporting a spiffy "No. 9" shirt. But what's up with Gramm-pa McCain looking like Joe the Hypocrite's twin?

Was the federal government out to get Eliot Spitzer?

By GottaLaff

Political retribution? What? Never!
Eight months after a federal investigation into a prostitution ring brought about the downfall of Gov. Eliot Spitzer, the question still persists in some circles: Was the federal government out to get Mr. Spitzer?

No evidence has surfaced to support such an assertion, and the prosecutor in the case has said that politics played no role in the pursuit of Mr. Spitzer, a Democrat. But that has not put to rest suspicions, expressed on left wing blogs, that Mr. Spitzer, a zealous pursuer of Wall Street wrongdoing who some thought could one day be president, had been singled out.

Now, a congressional committee is pursuing what would be the first public examination of the events that prompted the initial inquiry into his bank transactions, which showed he was sending money to a front company for Emperor’s Club V.I.P.

The House Financial Services Committee intends to take up the matter early next year and tentatively plans to hold hearings that could include testimony from the United States Treasury’s law enforcement unit, along with Mr. Spitzer’s bank, North Fork, and HSBC, a bank used by a company connected to the Emperor’s Club.
Now why on earth would anyone ever suspect the targeting of someone for political reasons? Why, the very idea! Humph!

Eliot Spitzer Won't Face Charges

By GottaLaff

I wonder if Eliot ever swore off wearing black socks:

Federal prosecutors said Thursday that they will not bring criminal charges against Eliot Spitzer for his role in a prostitution scandal, removing a legal cloud that has surrounded the former governor since his epic downfall eight months ago.

U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said investigators found no evidence that Spitzer or his office misused public or campaign funds for prostitution. Federal prosecutors typically do not prosecute clients of prostitution rings.

I guess that lets him off the hook(er).
