Blitz of Obama Books Coming

Good lord, they're going to have to devote a whole Dewey decimal just for Obama books.

"The White House has practically been overrun by journalists pumping top officials for behind-the-scenes details for a growing roster of behind-the-scenes books," the Washington Post reports.

"The blitz has created complications for presidential aides, who have a country to run, and frustrations for the authors, who are clamoring for face time with their sources."

New books are coming from Newsweek's Jonathan Alter, NBC's Chuck Todd, MSNBC's Richard Wolffe, The Washington Post's Bob Woodward and David Maraniss, the New York Times' Jodi Kantor and New Yorker writer Ryan Lizza.

Out next week: The Bridge: The Life and Rise of Barack Obama by New Yorker editor David Remnick.

Scott Brown finalizes book deal

But will we get the backstory on the pink leather shorts?

(CNN) – Sen. Scott Brown will reflect on "his family background, his early career and his ascent to the office of Massachusetts senator" in a new memoir, the publisher HarperCollins announced Wednesday.

Brown's office said last month that the Republican star was in the process of landing a book deal and had hired Washington attorney Bob Barnett to help navigate the process.

HarperCollins, which also published former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's best-selling memoir "Going Rogue," acquired the rights to the Brown book and will publish it in early 2011. The publisher called Brown's win in January's Massachusetts special Senate election "one of the biggest political coups of the decade."

Palin: “There’s no better training ground for politics than motherhood”

By GottaLaff

The New York Times book review of Barbie McLipSchmutz's ghost writer's efforts included this quote:
She pretends no particular familiarity with the Middle East, the Iraq war or Islamic politics — “I knew the history of the conflict,” she writes, “to the extent that most Americans did.” And she argues that “there’s no better training ground for politics than motherhood.”
If that's true, then why are there only a handful of Rushpublic women serving? They should far outnumber the men if they're so well-trained. Using Palin's logic, either most Rushpublic women with political aspirations never gave birth, or they were such inferior moms that they didn't qualify for a run.

Let's see what else the Times dug up. I see she's not too fond of fish-turned-humans. How rude of her to offend fish that way:
Elsewhere in this volume, she talks about creationism, saying she “didn’t believe in the theory that human beings — thinking, loving beings — originated from fish that sprouted legs and crawled out of the sea” or from “monkeys who eventually swung down from the trees.” In everything that happens to her, from meeting Todd to her selection by Mr. McCain for the Republican ticket, she sees the hand of God: “My life is in His hands. I encourage readers to do what I did many years ago, invite Him in to take over.”
First-- and this is so stupid it burns holes through other stupid burn-holes-- fish didn't "sprout legs", Barbie. Little Nemo didn't wake up one day and say, "I'm a real boy!" Sorry about combining references, but when it comes to Palin, it comes naturally.

Next, if God really did take over and all we got was Palinism-as-we-know-it, then He needs more than one day of rest.

Here's another tasty little morsel:
She says she “never sought to ban any books” as mayor of Wasilla, and in fact has always had a “special passion for reading.
If only her recollection of what she supposedly read matched her special passion. I guess God took over during the Couric interview and had a memory fart.

And finally, bringing up the rear (literally):
“As every Iditarod musher knows,” she writes of the famous Alaska dog-sled race, “if you’re not the lead dog, the view never changes.”
She should know.

Palin Editor's Double Life

By GottaLaff

http://s2.thisnext.com/media/230x230/Terminatrix-The-Sarah-Palin_A8A7B35B.jpg

First things first:
Penquin Books announced that it is moving up the publication date of The Persecution of Sarah Palin by Matthew Continetti from next February to November 12, 2009 to coincide with the publication of Palin's controversial memoir.

The book is subtitled: How the Elite Media Tried to Bring Down a Rising Star.
Aw, man, poor Barbie McLipschmutz! The elite media is apparently trying to do what she herself already succeeded at doing: Looking like a dumbed down version of a box of professionally highlighted hair. Good thing Penguin's rushing to defend her honor before it's too...

Never mind.

Now then. On to more exciting, heart-stopping Barbie news:
The Daily Beast has learned that a top HarperCollins editor who worked on Sarah Palin's new memoir helped write another book about her: sophomoric send-up Terminatrix.
Yes. Yes, it's true. Her own editor is making her look like a dumbed down version of a box of professionally highlighted hair... in skin-tight leather:

Last October, at the height of Palin’s memorable vice-presidential run, Bellow was the anonymous co-author of a quickie paperback satire of the then-governor of Alaska.

Terminatrix: The Sarah Palin Chronicles—which has a cover featuring a Photoshopped governor in skin-tight leather and brandishing an automatic weapon—is a sophomoric send-up of Palin and her family, featuring digitally altered images and derisive captions, and packaged in a 5-by-7-inch, 96-page trade paperback. A representative gag: Palin’s face superimposed on a painting of Joan of Arc, with the mocking commentary: “In between junior high and high school, Sarah heard God's call to save France.”

France? Did I just see that obscene 4-, er, 6-letter word "France" juxtaposed next to the name "Sarah"? Sacre bleu! Zut alors!

Twenty thousand copies of Terminatrix were shipped by the now-defunct Collins Books, a HarperCollins imprint for which Bellow worked as executive editor. The book carries the humorous credit line, “Compiled by the Editors of the Wasilla Iron Dog Gazette.”

Informed sources tell me that the mysterious Wasilla compilers are actually the fortysomething Bellow, son of the late Nobel Prize-winning novelist Saul Bellow, and his former HarperCollins colleague Bruce Nichols, who today is editor-in-chief of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

I bet Barbie's agent had a thing or two to say about these things or two:
Palin’s literary agent, high-powered Washington attorney Robert Barnett, offered a terse “no comment” and Lee Hough, the Colorado Springs-based agent who represents Palin’s collaborator on the biography, Lynn Vincent, emailed me : “Lynn is under a very strick [sic] confidentiality agreement and cannot engage on this. Sorry about that.”
And that's all they're going to say about that, thank you very much. They're professionals, after all... strickly speaking.
