Ofcourseyoubetcha don'tchaknow andhowmoreover, Barbie McLipSchmutz requested a credential for the Daytona 500 also too. It will no doubt be the first time she's been credentialed to do anything.

What's a Daytona to do?

“Let’s showcase her just like we would our Mayor or our Governor or anyone else,” DIS President Robin Braig said. “With NASCAR’s blessing we probably will see her at the driver’s meeting.” [...]

Last year’s Daytona 500 drivers meeting featured Tim Tebow, Tom Cruise and Keith Urban among its guests.

Barbie's speaking at an annual greater Daytona Chamber dinner in a few days, too. Wowzers, she's bi-Daytonal!

As for showcasing her, she does a dandy job of that all by herself. "Looka-me!" should be the name of her ghost writer's next Facebook blog entry, which can be turned into a book, which can springboard her (or her ghost writer) into yet another bid for whatever she feels she can quit the fastest.

As Andy Marquis just said to me:

"Perfect arrangement for Palin to do another TV interview. The Daytona 500 is on FOX."

Ann Coulter falls for fake Obama NASCAR story

In case you haven't heard about this yet:

In her April 1 column, Ann Coulter fell for a fake April Fools' Day article by Car and Driver magazine that claimed that President Obama has ordered General Motors and Chrysler to cease their participation in NASCAR because it is an "unnecessary expenditure." Coulter wrote, "If Obama can tell GM and Chrysler that their participation in NASCAR is an 'unnecessary expenditure,' isn't having public schools force students to follow Muslim rituals, recite Islamic prayers and plan 'jihads' also an 'unnecessary expenditure'?" Car and Driver originally posted an April 1 story online -- since removed -- with the headline, "Obama Orders Chevrolet and Dodge Out Of NASCAR," and the text, "With their racing budgets deemed 'unnecessary expenditures,' GM and Chrysler are ordered to cease racing operations at the end of the season." However, Car and Driver later clarified that the story was an April Fools' Day joke, then removed the story from its website.

In an April 1 USA Today article, Larry Marshak reported that "Car and Driver later pulled the fake story (which estimated savings of $250 million between the manufacturers) and apologized for 'going too far' while noting the magazine 'has a proud tradition of irreverent editorial and we amplify that each year with our April Fool's Day joke.'

Cindy McMulti-Millionaire: "Our money's a little tight"

Oh no! I hope Cindy Lou Hensley McMealTicket can afford to eat this week. Ohhh, it's campaign money she's referring to:

Cindy McCain came to the Firestone 200 Indy race Saturday to represent her husband, but don’t expect the campaign to win racing fans over by sponsoring a car.

“Our money’s a little tight,” Mrs. McCain told NBC affiliate WSMV Saturday, a day after the Obama campaign refuted reports they were planning to sponsor a car in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. “And as much as I’d love to put our name on a race car, love to do it, we really need to watch where we spend our money.”

But that's not important now. What is important is what she was clad in. I understand proper claddage is one of her priorities:

McCain, clad in a denim top and with her hair down, rode several laps in the pace car on a wet track, and spoke to drivers at the Nashville Superspeedway before the rain-shortened race.

She... let her hair down? But what about all that McSwirlyness? This is serious.

She described herself as a racing fan, saying she and son Jack picked up drift car racing while living in Japan. “We built a drift car together, so we race together,” she told NBC News. “It’s a lot of fun. When you’re a bad driver like me, it’s easy to skid.”

It certainly is. Maybe if you were to drive sober...?

Obama goes NASCAR

Look who's going all NASCAR!

SI.com has learned that for the first time in history, a major presidential candidate may sponsor a race car in NASCAR's premier series. According to sources, Barack Obama's campaign is in talks to become the primary sponsor of BAM Racing's No. 49 Sprint Cup car for the Pocono race on August 3.

I told you he was smart. Okay, you already knew he was. But I can gloat if I want to.

As of now, this is a one-race deal.

Racing sources claim one of the options being considered would allow individual campaign donors to get their name on the race car for as little as $100. Obama will also be present for a second private fundraiser on July 30 in Miami, in which team owners Beth Ann and Tony Morgenthau -- staunch Republicans -- will give the Democrat an opportunity to spread his message of change. Randy Moss and Fergie are among the celebrities confirmed to be a part of that fundraiser in support of the candidate and his venture into NASCAR.

Smaller donors are being encouraged again. Smart, smart, smart.

While George Bush was prominently featured on Kirk Shelmerdine's No. 72 car in '04, this is the first time a national presidential campaign has actually given its own money to make itself a primary sponsor of a race car. The sport has typically shown itself to be a Republican stronghold, a trend two-time champ Jimmie Johnson recently alluded to when he said he believed John McCain was the candidate of choice for most NASCAR fans this year.

Not any more, Jimmie. Obama's in town.

Paddy adds- The McCain campaign just announced that Cindy McCain is going to participate in the Nashville Firestone 200 Indycar Race. Coincidence?
