Barry Blitt, the cartoonist responsible for the New Yorker's controversial terrorist fist-jabbing cover, among others, returns this week to "vet" Barack Obama. Of course this time around "Vetting" refers to the all important decision of picking a "first" puppy...

It's shows. Hilarious.

I love beagels, Barack. But they are pretty loud!

I would get the girls a Bichon because they are very smart and learn quickly (often used as circus dogs), a Bichon would adore the girls, and they don't shed at all and are often recommended for people with allergies. My two love children even though they have never lived with children. They go gaga any time they see little kids and are very docile with them.

They are very sweet dogs and all they want is to be with their people. They are funny, too.

But, Barack said no frilly dogs and he will probably think this breed too frilly.

Thanks, Evers.

I once had a beagle named Jeeves, loved him! But he/they are roamers.

If he was anywhere near an open door, even one that was slightly ajar, he'd wriggle his way out so quickly that there was no way to grab him.

He also dug out of our (huge) yard no matter what we did to stop him (sinking boards deep down below fence level, etc.). He finally ran away one day and never returned.

I cried for months.

My first dog was a beagle mix (ok, technically a basset hound mix) who was also a roamer. When we lived in NH, she developed a liking for porcupine. Every full moon... Other than that she was a delightful dog - sweet, good with kids, docile.

I forgot about what roamers beagles are. We had a beagle that would hook his nails into the wire of the screen door so he could pull it open and take off. Another beagle we had we got because it was always running from it's home to ours. The people finally said -- you keep her!

Hunting dogs tend to do that.

So sad, because I loved our beagle so much, and he was so sweet, but he just didn't want to be cooped up. He had things to sniff, trees to visit, squirrels to chase.

Yeah - but it doesn't stop hurting when they're gone :(

I want them to get that goldendoodle 'cause I want to hear my president announce in his very serious presidential voice that they have decided on a goldendoodle. Sorry, I don't know much about dogs but that's gotta be one of the most fabulously silly dog names ever!
