Treated with "deference". Looks to me that this is the media's last chance to prove it isn't just an arm of the Republican Party. Not sure how to place my bet.
Rick Davis, campaign manager for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., just told Fox News Channel's Chris Wallace that McCain running mate Gov. Sarah Palin won't subject herself to any tough questions from reporters "until the point in time when she'll be treated with respect and deference."
Davis assailed the way the media had discussed Palin and her family in the last week and said the campaign would wait until a less hostile media environment.
So when will she subject herself to questions?
"When we think it's time and when she feels comfortable doing it," Davis said, praising a Fox News Channel profile of Palin that ran last night.

Any woman who went through child birth 5 times, over saw a multi billion $ energy commission and went through 20 plus debates as an underdog to become the first female Gov. must be scared to death of the media. Let's just keep convincing ourselves and those dumb Repubs of that fact. Biden shouldn't even prepare for the debate. It will be a cake walk. Everyone close your eyes, click your hills three times and make it come true!

Giving birth 5 times does not give you magical knowledge about foreign policy. Running a billion dollar energy commission does not either. If she were that adept she would be out there answering questions. She may not be a complete moron. But so far she has just shown herself to be a woman who is capable of spouting mean nasty and spiteful comments at Obama and Biden. Lets see if she can actually talk about the country's needs and world affairs. She is acting like a chicken, but I will admit that republicans are experts at lowering expectations to the point that if she gets through an interview without drooling she will thought of as a resounding success.

And folks with a rural education know all about the mother hen who rules the roost and how "pecking" orders are established in the barn yard. Obama missed that chance when he passed on Hillary. Not a real good first decision as commander and chief. Palin will be capable of playing it both ways unlike any man in the history of politics!
The American people have a right to know the people they are being asked to vote for. The press has the responsibility to get that info to the people. If the GOP won't make Palin available to the press, then no one should vote for the ticket. Period.

You are right. I bet they will never let her give an interview. I am sure she will never dare get in front of the media. I bet she doesn't even show up for the debate. I'm sure they know they made a huge mistake and are shaking in their boots over how long this fake VP can hold out, right? Let's keep telling ourselves that over and over again! As an American I am pissed that Palin has not given any non-scripted interviews. Now I am curious how McCain supporters feel about this??? Are they OK with not knowing who Palin is? If so, why?

Yes, she can play it both ways, better than any man has ever done- i.e. looking to be treated like a lady but acting as tough as a man. While her politics are less feminist than Hillary, her personality is more feminine, so she will be able to hide behind her sex better. This blog crowed better get ready!

So far we have heard nothing from Palin but her scripted convention speech, a speech she repeats (still having to read it) on the televised stump speeches. It seems inconceivable that people will vote for the Republican ticket based on the excitement generated by one speech.
That said, McCain is ahead in the Gallup Poll published today for the first time since May (with one minor exception in late Aug). As distasteful as it is to admit, it can only be contributed to Palin's impact on the McCain campaign. How can the Obama campaign compete with something that makes no sense?
Frankly it worries me that not only is McCain keeping Palin away from the press, but that the crowds attending McCain's appearances are booing the press.
Sarah Palin and the Repugs are full of it and they know and the American public knows it. They started this whole outcry against the media crap in order to buy time for her to learn something, anything about anything before facing the media. Any stall technique, they figure, will work. They've used this playbook effectively in the past and don't yet understand that this is a new day. Nobody owed Palin anything, but Palin owes the American public everything. So, come out! You say you're ready for the highest office in the land (yup! yup!) then come on out and face it!

Folks, just google for Palin videos and you will find plenty of her speaking at Alaskan governmental functions. She is a very good speaker and performs well in debate. By keeping her from questioning they are just building up the suspense and holding access to her over the heads of the media. She SHOULD answer questions the American public has, but as their campaign manager has pointed out, she doesn't have to. There are plenty of people that fell in love with her after one speech. That's all that's needed for some people. "Deference", indeed.
She has said a lot on tape, and not much flattering to herself. I think they should give here enough rope to hang herself.
Obama should be running scared of Sarah. She is already Commander and Chief of the AK National Guard. Joe Biden will act like a whipped pup after he has a debate with Sarah. She will never run from a decision as Obama did in the IL state senate. Come on people he had to vote Present 132 times and could never make a decision!!!!

I can't believe they are witholding her until they feel she gets respected. I'm sorry, but when you are running for public office, you must tell the voting public what you stand for, we deserve that. And if you can't handle a little disrespect from the media, you can't handle being the VP of the US.
I look forward to hearing from her directly about her stance on the issues. Based on what I've read so far, I pretty much disagree with her on everything, but I'd like to hear in her own words what she truly thinks and believes, to make a more informed decision.
The more time the GOP spends crying about the liberal media bias, the less time they spend telling the voting public how they plan to deal with the issues.
A worried Florida Woman for Obama/Biden:
I am very concerned about this--we seem to be losing ground on our strategy while the media has been placating the RNC. We have 58 days to learn about the candidate who is a heartbeat away from the presidency. Obama/Biden must win--and 1) stop apologizing for not being in the military 2) stop regretting the comment about abortion and when life starts 3) stop jokingly referring to her as "attractive" and a "formidable" debater and focus on an aggressive approach to winning this election. This infatuation with her must stop--this is not a Jerry Springer show--it is our government and our future. It's called "form over substance". We seem to have lost focus on the issues (which our red states seem to forget are paramount) and are afraid to hit the McCain/Palin allegations head on and creating our own for them to address! Rove was a mastermind to put her in there and divert attention on the real issues--we can not let this happen again or we will be a one party system! When the RNC cries sexism because you ask the challenging questions on ideology--hit back and don't behave paternally. She afforded no respect when attacking Obama and Biden. How foolish we must look to our allies--to place a journalism major from a C rated school who didn't leave the US until last year from a state that has more grizzly bears than people to run the free world?? To add insult to injury, we talk ourselves into the fact that she has international experience because Alaska is close to Russia? I am concerned about the Americans who vote on superficiality (e.g. snarky speeches that are well delivered)and don't understand what is at stake.

OMG, does being Pretty and sharp-tongued mean you're qualified for the 2nd highest position in the land? Maybe to McShame, but to the majority of the Palin supporters? C'mon people, this woman is a risk to herself and her family. Who wants her as a risk to our country? Not I. God help us all!
I don't know why those guys won't give interviews. Their policy positions are really simple: drill for more oil, cut taxes for the rich, threaten countries with military force, fight in Iraq until "victorious", attack Iran, scare the Americans about their nat security. Surely Palin can memorize those lines.
