VIDEO: "Tea Party Rap"

By GottaLaff

CBSNewsOnline April 14, 2010Singer Lloyd Marcus performs the "American Tea Party Anthem" at a Tea Party rally in Boston, Massachusetts
Look! An African American at a Tea Tantrum rally! And he "raps" [sic]! Not much of a singer, though.

In fact, this is just embarrassing:

"I'm an America-a-a-a-a-a-aaaaan!!"

Hey Lloyd, if you have to insist that you're an America-a-a-a-a-aaan!, you're "not racists", you're "not stupid", and that you're "gonna win" that loudly and obnoxiously, then there very well
may be room for reasonable doubt.

VIDEO: The Big CPAC rap show embarrassing moment... *Cricket, cricket*

By GottaLaff

::Cricket, cricket::

Oh no, seriously, this is just deadly.

Painful.

Off the scale cringeworthy:

A few CPACers eventually walked in, looking for rap. They seemed bewildered. No one canceled the show officially, and no one knew what was going on. [...]

We hung around for a while, hoping for some hear some phat rhymes from headliner Hi Caliber, the tea partier rapper we profiled last year. He never showed.

I caught up with Hi Cal this afternoon to find out what happened. "The crowd disbanded early," he said, "so we moved the show."

The new performance will be tonight "after Ann Coulter," he said.

Yeah, because Ann Coulter is so hip and kewl and rad that all the rapper fans and awesome, with-it, gnarly Rushpublics will be drawn like flies to her rhythmically hott, pulsating, rapitude-inous aura.

More here.

VIDEO: Students rap a Journalist's Oath; Fox missed this class

By GottaLaff

Dear ClusterFox, Take lessons from these students, if that's even possible:

A group project performed for an ethics course at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.

The assignment was to come up with a journalist's oath.
Never mind what I said at the top, Fox would just accuse them of indoctrination.

Note: The fun doesn't start until about 45 seconds in.

VIDEO-- CPAC's "Republican rapper": "Obama's a naked Marxist"

By GottaLaff

Max Blumenthal does it again. First he gives us the scrum-diddly-umptious gift of the latest John Ziegler meltdown. Now he introduces us to Hi-Caliber, the world's first self-proclaimed Republican rapper aka conservative hip-hop artist. And what a national resource is he!

After 10 minutes of exposure to Michael Savage's rants on his car radio, Hi-Caliber was utterly inspired. He turned hard right, and we're not talkin' GPS directions here. As he says, "it was like an epiphany".

He is a self-described "positive conservative" from Jersey. One of his golden moments: "Global warming is a buncha hype." What could be more positive than that? And this:

Now Hi-Caliber records inspired battle anthems against President Barack Obama, who he denounces as a "socialist in the White House;" he attacks Nancy Pelosi as "phony baloney;" assails the liberal media; calls for a border fence; and warns darkly of the Fairness Doctrine.

'What Up, My Obama?': How the president-elect inspired a rapper to clean up his language

By GottaLaff

First Obama sets Al Qaeda back without having to utter a word, and now he has a positive effect on Jim Jones, a Harlem rapper :

Since Election Day, every conversation I have eventually turns to Barack Obama and our emotional reactions to this American epiphany. Jim confessed that the election inspired him to drop the word “nigga” from his vocabulary—where it was a nearly ubiquitous presence—and replace it with “Obama.” He gave me a few examples: “What up, my Obama?” “Yo, did you see them Obamas last night?” “Now that’s a real Obama.”

I was blown away. Black men have used nigga for more than three decades as a way of expressing a certain gallows humor. It is a way of saying, “Hey, if America thinks we’re the national boogie monsters, then fine, we are. Boo!” It stems from a peculiarly black sense of the macabre. But the election has done more than just usher in a black president. It’s begun creating a new America where black people feel like the country perhaps doesn’t hate us the way it once did, and black men no longer feel a need to identify ourselves as America’s monsters.

If words have power, and the slang we use says something about the people we are, then Jimmy’s linguistic U-turn indicates a very powerful shift: away from self-describing as niggas (rebellious, angry, ignorant, hunted), and toward self-describing as Obamas (cool, intelligent, humble, powerful). Away from a self-appellation that reminds us of how America has wronged us, and toward a self-appellation suggesting that we are all reflections of, and extensions of, a shining example of black excellence.

Change is on the way.

Unimaginably good things are happening. BFPE.
