Governors in D.C. vow to press ahead with healthcare reform
By GottaLaff
The nation’s 50 governors pledged Saturday not to wait for a federal healthcare fix to start enacting reforms of their own.
Despite continued unemployment and tens of billions of dollars in state budget deficits that a majority of the nation’s governors are facing, how to provide better healthcare at lower costs is taking center stage at the three-day National Governors Association winter meeting in Washington [...]
Governors Association Vice Chairman Joe Manchin III (D-W.V.) repeatedly cited the need for any federal law to give the states flexibility in implementing certain reforms, including individual insurance coverage mandates.
In addition to sharing their individual state experiences and hoping to learn from one another about various reform proposals, the governors said they were looking forward to the opportunity to hopefully influence the federal debate ...
As for Congress's glacial pace and endless (mis)handling of pushing legislation through:
“Congress, they talk about it,” said Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D-Mont.). “And worse yet, when they talk about it, they say, ‘Maybe what we ought to do is kick it all out to the states and see if they can figure this out.’ Well, we’d be more than happy to figure this out, but the only time they listen to us is when we come to town. And by the way, Congress is on vacation.”
Oh, suh-nap!

Bob McDonnell wins Virginia gubernatorial election
By GottaLaff

Remember: It's all Obama's fault. What an abysmal failure he is.
Exit polls: In New Jersey, Obama not a major factor
By GottaLaff
Six in 10 New Jersey voters said Tuesday that President Obama had no effect on their vote in this off-year gubernatorial election, according to early CNN Exit Poll data. [...]When asked if Obama had an effect on their vote, 60 percent responded he was not a factor, 20 percent said their vote was meant to express opposition to him, and 19 percent said it was to support him.
Why is Deeds behind? "Deeds doesn't support President Obama," said some younger voters, per Rep. Jim Moran (D-Virginia) on The Ed Show just now.

President Obama Asks Gov Paterson to Step Aside
Apparently someone at the White House didn't like the news that New York Gov. David Paterson (D) was staffing up to run for election next year despite his terrible approval ratings.
The New York Times reports President Obama himself sent a request to Paterson that he withdraw from the New York governor's race, fearing that Paterson "cannot recover from his dismal political standing."
"The move against a sitting Democratic governor represents an extraordinary intervention into a state political race by the president, and is a delicate one, given that Mr. Paterson is one of only two African-American governors in the nation."

Another Sex Scandal Brewing?
Okay, maybe I'm extra slow this morning, but I can't think of anyone that fits this description. Via Taegan-
The New York Daily News reports that a "high-end escort" who claimed to work for former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D) also says she has three "dates" with another governor.
However, the only clues we're given is that the man was not from New York and had a "prominent" wife.

Decision day in closely-watched Virginia primary
I hope Ter-Ter gets his ass handed to him. Carpetbagger. Only problem with that is that he'll probably get back into political advising, and I want him as far away from any decent Dem candidates as he can get.
WASHINGTON (CNN) – After months of sometimes acrimonious intra-party feuding, polls opened at 6 a.m. in Virginia on Tuesday amidst stormy weather for the commonwealth’s first contested Democratic primary election for governor in decades.
On the ballot today: Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe, former state House delegate Brian Moran and state Sen. Creigh Deeds. The winner will face Republican Bob McDonnell in the general election, an off-year race that is seen by many as a proving ground for both the Obama administration and a beleaguered Republican party.

Here is the video of President Obama addressing America's governors. Check out his remarks starting at about 8:10. Once again, he is a step ahead of the Party of No, informing the American people about the pettiness of the Republican obstructionists who are focusing on all the wrong things, politicizing instead of cooperating... again.
