Overnight Thread and Distraction

Quick story. Back in the early 80's OB played at FIU in South Florida. Being the HUGE fan I was, I snapped up tickets and looked forward to it like a crazy women. For whatever reason, it sold like crap and when we showed up there couldn't have been more than 3k ppl there. Danny was ticked and told the crowd that we could pick the songs. Everyone crowded around the stage and started yelling out songs and they played them. Like having a killer concert in your back pocket.

My. Favorite. Band. EVER.

Overnight Thread and Distraction

Behold, the earliest known Led Zeppelin recording. Part of a December 1968 show that took place three weeks before the band's Led Zeppelin album came out, this version of "Dazed and Confused" is part of a full-show bootleg that's been available to fans for awhile. This is just its first time on YouTube. Apparently, when this was recorded, Led Zeppelin was so obscure that they were listed as "Len Zefflin" on ads for the show.

Overnight Thread and Disco Diversion

My local PBS station is trying to raise money by shilling a disco dvd. Scary, but I got suckered in for a bit. Growing up in Miami in the 70's gave me a predisposition, but man, Leo Sayer has so morphed from the waif who could sing to the skeevy uncle you avoid at Thanksgiving...

Video- Smokey Robinson, Jennifer Hudson and The Blind Boys of Alabama Perform at the White House

Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, John Mellencamp, Smokey Robinson, Jennifer Hudson, Will.i.am and more artists took the stage earlier this week in Washington, DC, for a Black History Month special titled “In Performance at the White House: A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement,” which aired last night on PBS. The concert was originally scheduled to take place on February 10th, but the threat of the northeast blizzard forced the production to film one day earlier. All of the performances are streaming now on the PBS Website.

VIDEO: Michelle Obama jazzes up the White House

By GottaLaff

Video via.

You know what's cooler than jazz? Michelle Obama, that's what:

First Lady Michelle Obama kicked off a White House music series Monday with a Jazz Studio, honoring her commitment to the arts.

The first lady hosted 150 middle and high school jazz students in the East Wing. The students participated in workshops. Led by famous jazz musicians such as the Marsalis family, the seminars focused on the influence American history had on jazz, improvisation through jazz styles, and the influence of Duke Ellington.

"Today's event exemplifies what the White House, the people's house, should be about. This is a place to honor America's past, celebrate its present and create its future," Obama said in a speech concluding the day's activities. "And what better example of this is than jazz, America's indigenous art form."

Obama applauded jazz as a democratic art form and considers it "America's greatest artistic gift to the world."

Earth Wind & Fire to perform at the White House

Now that's some music, none of that Toby Keith crap. May I just say that I had a shirt exactly the same as the ones the back up singers are wearing? Ah youth.

Earth, Wind and Fire, the R&B band that reached its heights in the 1970s, will perform at the White House on Sunday during a dinner for the nation’s governors, officials said. The evening will also include a performance by the Marine Corps. band.
