New group tries to convince Cheney to run in 2012

By GottaLaff

President Dickless McHeartStent? I. Don't. Think. So:
The organization - "Draft Dick Cheney 2012" - launched on Friday, and unveiled their new Web site. Their aim: To convince the former vice president to seek the Republican presidential nomination in the next race for the White House. But there may be a major roadblock to the group's pitch - Cheney himself.
Besides, Dickless Jr. will get jealous.

Does McHeartStent want to run for the White House?

Does Cheney want to run for the White House?

Didn't I just ask that?

During the rally, Hutchison yelled out to the crowd "Cheney 2012!" and some one in the audience quickly responded "We need you, Dick!"

Cheney's response: "Not a chance."

To which he followed up with, "But Liz is bursting at the seams for a run. Here's her number. Now I gotta a cardiology appointment to make, so buzz off."

Barron says the group hopes to follow up Friday’s Web launch with a more formal structure, which will include building a database and reaching out through social networks like Facebook and Twitter. Barron adds that there is no budget set yet, and that the effort is grassroots at this point. He says the group plans on targeting tea party events [...]

Cheney + Tea Partiers = The perfect match.

The Palin 2012 Draft

By GottaLaff

Check out where this group is from. Via Mudflats:

WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut group says it is the first in the nation to register to raise money to draft Sarah Palin for president.

Paul Streitz of Darien says the Federal Election Commission has confirmed the “2012 Draft Sarah Committee” is the first to file papers.

Streitz says all donations collected by the committee will be used for grassroots organizing to build support for the Alaska governor and John McCain’s running mate last year.

Streitz says the committee so far has collected about $3,000. He says donations will be shared with Palin’s organization once she declares her candidacy, which she has not so far done.

We look forward to the day when Limelight Sarah takes them up on this. Our archives are simply brimming with all kinds of "In what respect, Charlie" crispy crunchy goodness.

John Sidney McCain's tone deaf problem

By GottaLaff

Yesterday I posted twice about J Sid's "not disagreeing" that a military draft would be spiffy: once here, including a video of the Q & A, and once here, where Marc Ambinder disputes the first one.

However, after watching Keith Olbermann on Countdown last night, I noticed that he pointed out that J Sid's campaign hadn't "disagreed" with the "not disagreeing", and MSNBC's Chuck Todd emphasized that any campaign would be all over this if they thought they had been misrepresented. J Sid's campaign response? Crickets.

Couple this with the wonderfully teed-up-by-McCain-himself mindbogglingly tone deaf comments that he lost track of the number of homes he owns, and you have a political gold mine.

You also have a candidate who is completely out of touch with the needs and concerns of voters. If the Obama campaign can relentlessly pound these points into America's psyche the way J Sid pounded on Reverend Wright, celebrity, elitism, and inexperience, we're well on our way to a big, yummy bounce.

John Sidney McCain "doesn't disagree" with reinstituting the draft

By GottaLaff

(relevant part begins at 1:34)

QUESTIONER: If we don’t reenact the draft, I don’t think we’ll have anyone to chase Bin Laden to the gates of hell.

[Applause]

MCCAIN: Ma’am, let me say that I don’t disagree with anything you said.

Warmongers like John McCain don't mind sending our children to fight their wars. Parents, if you're not afraid to have your son or daughter get drafted, then J Sid's your candidate:
In June, McCain said it would take an “all-out World War III” to make the draft necessary — which seems to mean he’d consider it. In July 2006, when asked to react to Newt Gingrich’s claim that “You’d have to say to yourself this is in fact World War III,” McCain said, I do [agree] to some extent.”

Asked about the draft last September, McCain said, “I might consider it, I don’t think it’s necessary, but I might consider it if you could design a draft where everybody equally could serve.”

Considering McCain’s vow that “there’s gonna be other wars” and that we could stay in Iraq for 100 years, a draft might seem reasonable to him.

Oh, but it would seem very unreasonable to a good number of us.
