John Sidney McCain "doesn't disagree" with reinstituting the draft

By GottaLaff

(relevant part begins at 1:34)

QUESTIONER: If we don’t reenact the draft, I don’t think we’ll have anyone to chase Bin Laden to the gates of hell.

[Applause]

MCCAIN: Ma’am, let me say that I don’t disagree with anything you said.

Warmongers like John McCain don't mind sending our children to fight their wars. Parents, if you're not afraid to have your son or daughter get drafted, then J Sid's your candidate:
In June, McCain said it would take an “all-out World War III” to make the draft necessary — which seems to mean he’d consider it. In July 2006, when asked to react to Newt Gingrich’s claim that “You’d have to say to yourself this is in fact World War III,” McCain said, I do [agree] to some extent.”

Asked about the draft last September, McCain said, “I might consider it, I don’t think it’s necessary, but I might consider it if you could design a draft where everybody equally could serve.”

Considering McCain’s vow that “there’s gonna be other wars” and that we could stay in Iraq for 100 years, a draft might seem reasonable to him.

Oh, but it would seem very unreasonable to a good number of us.

Why oh why aren't people hearing what we're hearing?

Oh, well done, Gotta!

I'm sure he'll issue a statement in which he denies having said it, or attacking Obama for assailing the character of a former POW, who would never institute a draft. The media will accept this. The story will go no where.

This is the only way it can be with the fucktards in the national/corporate media. They know of nothing else.

That sounded defeatist, CPants. : )

people aren't hearing what we are hearing because its not the job of corporate media to show the true McWar. Its the job of Obama's camp and his weakling surrogate to attack him effectively whenever they are on any media outlet. The only way to defeat McCain and neo-cons is for Obama to start acting like those hated Clintons.

I am sure McCain misheard the comment. He thought the questioner was about wind power.

Cyndi, I agree with you in principle (see my rant post down thread), but I'm not sure destructive politics to the extent Hillary practiced them would help.

I think smart, well-communicated politics, timely and repetitive, would be more like it.

But boy are you right about the media.

Joe, LOL!!!

I think if the draft were reinstated (or threatened to be), the complacent masses amongst us might finally wake up! I know too many people who support this war without making a single sacrifice. When I ask them if they would allow their kids to enlist, I get a flat out "Are you crazy? No way!". If their own kids were at risk of being sent to the middle east then maybe we could finally have an uprising and end this madness!

Then pass it on, Karen. Seriously. Talk up McWar's "no problem with reinstating the draft". Play it up and use the video above whenever anyone contradicts you.

That's not what I'm saying, Chris. McCain scares the sh*t out of me! I'm saying I hope he keeps talking about it and scares some of his supporters as well. The problem is not enough people care about ending the war cause it doesn't affect them directly. They don't have to see it because photos of the returning dead troops are banned, there is very little media attention, and it seems that most people would just rather not think about soldiers and civilians dying for the neocon's wet dream - as long as it doesn't affect them or their families. I'm just saying if McCain keeps talking about it as if it were a real possibility, maybe his own base will bury him.

I did a diary about this on DKos. It's number two in the Rec box now.

Yaaay!

Yays! Go you!!

lol noah, its not funny though. My brother is serving in Afghanistan and my whole Republican family are finally waking up to the b.s. their party has been selling. I love your article by the way.

gottalaff, by following Clinton attack machine I mean a more finesse focused version. We all know there are plenty of crap about McCain that need to be put out for all to see.

I got that, Cyndi.
