Former first lady Barbara Bush was admitted Saturday to a hospital in Texas for routine tests, a spokeswoman said."Mrs Bush is in for some routine tests, not an emergency of any kind," said Jim Appleby, spokesman for former President George H.W. Bush.
I read in the L.A. Times that she just wasn't feeling quite right, so she checked in to the hospital.
We wish her the best.

President Richard Nixon believed one way to shore up the GOP in 1973 was by recruiting "attractive" women, but not because he was "for women," according to audio tapes released Tuesday.In February of 1973, President Nixon called future president and then-Republican National Committee chairman George H.W. Bush, and recounted a recent visit to the South Carolina state legislature.
"I noticed a couple of very attractive women, both of them Republicans, in the legislature," Nixon told Bush. "I want you to be sure to emphasize to our people, God, let's look for some… Understand, I don't do it because I'm for women, but I'm doing it because I think maybe a woman might win someplace where a man might not… So have you got that in mind?"
Bush replies, "I'll certainly keep it in mind."
And then he went home to Barbara.

At Methodist Hospital in Houston today, the former first lady had heart surgery, per MSNBC just now. No further information is available yet.
UPDATE: It was precautionary, because she'd had some shortness of breath, per CNN just now.

I'm not sure if it's appropriate to wonder out loud what/who gave Barbara Bush the ulcers (Oops, I just did, didn't I?), so I'll simply wish her a speedy recovery:
Former First Lady Barbara Bush is recovering this morning from an abdominal procedure at a Houston hospital.
A statement released by the hospital this morning said the former First Lady "underwent routine, laparoscopic surgery Tuesday night to correct a perforated ulcer. She was resting comfortably Wednesday morning, and visiting with her family."
"During the procedure last night, surgeons cleansed her abdominal area, then patched and closed a one-centimeter hole in Mrs. Bush's stomach, caused by the ulcer," the statement said. "Mrs. Bush is expected to be discharged from the hospital next week."
