Now the only reason that this is in any way news worthy is because 1) we never heard the truth for why Palin went missing, 2) she recently made fun of Joe Biden's hairplugs (Pot meet kettle), 3) and this definitely makes it clear that Palin understands that her looks are key to her success in politics. It seems clear that Sarah knows that when her looks fade, so does her influence.

Cheney undergoes back surgery

Dickless McHeartStent goes under the knife. No... No... I won't say it:

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is undergoing surgery on his back Thursday, his office announced.

"Former Vice President Cheney went to The George Washington University Hospital this morning for elective surgery to deal with lumbar spinal stenosis. Dr. Anthony Caputy, Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery, will perform the operation," a spokeswoman said.

My dad just underwent this surgery. According to him (and he's a doctor), it's a snap.

Robin Williams to have heart surgery

A breaking news banner just popped up on MSNBC saying that my old pal Robin Williams will be having surgery. Yesterday it was reported that he had shortness of breath, which set off alarm bells in my little noggin. Unfortunately, my concern was for good reason.

Fingers crossed for Robin. He's a sweet, generous, brilliant guy.

He'll be undergoing an aortic valve replacement, per his publicist.

His older brother died two years ago from heart surgery complications, according to Wikipedia.

Thinking good thoughts.

BREAKING: Barbara Bush had heart surgery

At Methodist Hospital in Houston today, the former first lady had heart surgery, per MSNBC just now. No further information is available yet.

UPDATE: It was precautionary, because she'd had some shortness of breath, per CNN just now.

Republican Senator Johanns Undergoes Lung Surgery

Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE) will undergo lung surgery today "as a cautionary step" after a spot was found on his left lung, according to CQ Politics.

According to a statement, the surgery "could involve removal of the lower lobe of the left lung. The exact nature of the spot, including whether it is cancerous, will be determined following the surgery."

I'm not sure if it's appropriate to wonder out loud what/who gave Barbara Bush the ulcers (Oops, I just did, didn't I?), so I'll simply wish her a speedy recovery:

Former First Lady Barbara Bush is recovering this morning from an abdominal procedure at a Houston hospital.

A statement released by the hospital this morning said the former First Lady "underwent routine, laparoscopic surgery Tuesday night to correct a perforated ulcer. She was resting comfortably Wednesday morning, and visiting with her family."

"During the procedure last night, surgeons cleansed her abdominal area, then patched and closed a one-centimeter hole in Mrs. Bush's stomach, caused by the ulcer," the statement said. "Mrs. Bush is expected to be discharged from the hospital next week."
