President Obama yesterday created a new Internet meme that may make some little piggies want to go wee-wee-wee all the way home.

But the 18th-century children's rhyme "This Little Piggy" was not, as it turns out, the childhood reference the president of the United States and leader of the free world was making when he yesterday told his political troops at Organizing for America, "There's something about August going into September where everybody in Washington gets all wee-weed up. I don't know what it is. But that's what happens."

No. He meant that other definition of wee-wee, a White House spokesman told the Washington press corps today, the one that's got political consultants and journalists across the city cracking jokes like, "Parents across America to their kids at bedtime tonight: 'No more wee-weeing up tonight! or I will call President Obama in the morn!'" [...]

"I think 'wee-weed up' is when people just get all nervous for no particular reason," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs explained Friday.

"We're Number One" may never have quite the same meaning again...

President-Elect Obama's first press conference: liveblog

It's coming up in about 5 minutes. I'll be updating.

Chris Matthews has repeatedly made the point about how diverse Obama's economic team is (he emphasized the presence of women), as compared to all the usual "old white men" that we've been seeing over the past several years. He just added, "Hispanics, African Americans... an attempt to show the breadth of opinion that Obama is taking advantage of..."

He really needs to dump Villaigarosa.

Obama:
He's reiterating the state of the economy. "We have to act swiftly to resolve it." Until Jan. 20, Bush is president. He will continue to be informed by Bush's team.

As soon as he's president, he'll deal with the crisis head-on. He met with his advisors this morning, as well as Biden...

We need a rescue plan for the middle class, create jobs, provide relief for families. Extend unemployment insurance benefits. Fiscal stimulus plan is long overdue.

Next, the impact on other sectors: Small businesses, and state and municipal gov'ts. It's increasingly global, and requires a global response.

The auto industry is facing huge challenges too. They're the backbone of American manufacturing. Retool the assistance Congress has already enacted, and add policies to help auto industry adjust: Fuel efficient cars. Possibly more legislation.

Ensure goals are met to stabilize markets, while helping homeowners... [missed some here]. Work with FDIC and other agencies to help avoid foreclosures.

Finally: Grow middle class, strengthen economy in the long term. Clean energy, health care, education, and tax relief .... Will meet with this advisory board again. He understands the enormity of this task ahead. Choices will be difficult. It won't be quick or easy to dig out of the hole we're in, but we will succeed IF we put aside partisanship and work together as one nation.

Questions:
Q: First hundred days, plus, priority?
O: We can get things done. No question. More action is needed. We will need a stimulus package passed, either before or after Jan. 20. We need more jobs. We need to assist state and local gov'ts. A new president can have enormous impact, that's why I ran.

Q: House Dems say the package may be in trouble. Can you get something done?
O: I'd like to see it sooner than later, and will be the first thing I get done as president.

Q: Repsonded to Ahmadinejad? And will you send envoys?
O: I'm aware of his letter. Iran's nuke development is unacceptable. We need an international effort to prevent it. We will respond to the letter appropriately. It's only been 3 days since the election, shouldn't have a knee-jerk response. But we only have one president at a time. I'm not the president yet.

Q: When you disagree with Bush, will you defer, challenge, confront? Will that rattle markets more?
O: Bush invited us to meet with him and Laura. We'll have a substantive convo. I won't anticipate problems, I'll have a spirit of bipartisanship. We all recognize the severity of the situation and want stuff done. There may be differences between parties and within parties. The critical tone is the American people need help, we have just completed a long election cycle. Set politics aside now, and think practically about what will work.

Q: Two wars, financial crisis, will you fill posts quickly?
O: When we appoint, we'll announce it. I want to move with deliberate haste, but emphasize "deliberate" as well as "haste". I'm proud of v.p. and chief of staff, cuz we thought it through. We'll have an outstanding team, roll it out in a couple of weeks.

Q: Successor for your senate seat?
O: Governor's decision, not mine. Someone capable, passionate about helping working families, lots of good choices out there.

Q: (Lynn Sweet) Getting ready? Reading books? Dog? Private or public schools?
O: Former presidents: I've spoken to all of them. Reread some of Lincoln's writings. Carter, Bush Sr., and Bush have all been gracious. Dog: Major issue [wink]. Two criteria... One, Malia is allergic. But, our preference is a shelter dog. But a lot of them are mutts, like me. So it's a pressing issue. Schools: Michelle will scout them out, future decision.

Q: (Candy Crowley) Intelligence access. State of U.S. intel? Beef it up? And, anything given you pause?
O: If there was something I heard, I couldn't tell you. I have gotten briefed. Generally: Our intel can always improve, it has gotten better. Beyond that, can't comment.

Q: Income tax increases for wealthy?
O: Net tax cut. Substantial middle class cuts. 95% of working Americans. Cuts in capital gains for small businesses, all designed for job growth. Create jobs, grow economy. Over the next several weeks/mos., will look at data. The goal of plan is to provide tax relief, but boost the capacity of the economy to grow from the bottom up.

Chris Matthews: Lots of info. Not redistributing wealth, but creating wealth. Net effect is to reduce tax burden. If no stimulus by the time he's in office, he'll deal. Aid to businesses. Focused on where the money's going. Job creation. [see above]
