Bush plans prime-time farewell

Make it stop.

After eight stressful years on the job, President Bush will deliver a farewell address to the nation on network television in prime time on Thursday, the White House announced.

The address will be 10 to 15 minutes long, from the East Room of the White House. An exact time has not been set.

White House press secretary Dana Perino e-mailed reporters: "Continuing a ritual that dates back to George Washington, President Bush will deliver a farewell message to the American people Thursday night. He will reflect on his time in office and the ways our country has changed these past eight years. He will also uphold the tradition of presidents using farewell addresses to look forward — by sharing his thoughts on greatest challenges facing the country and on what it will take to meet them."

Reporters Ignore Bush, Wait For Obama To End Photo Op

Just leave already George.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – When President Bush says "Thank you all," at the end of an Oval Office photo-op, that's usually the signal for White House press aides to usher journalists out — and fast.

But during Wednesday's historic gathering of five U.S. presidents — past, present and future — Bush's customary signal didn't have the desired effect. President Bush said “Thank you all” while shaking hands with President-elect Barack Obama, aides demanded the camera lights go off and started herding reporters and technicians towards the door…

But Obama launched into remarks of his own. Video of the event shows the television lights getting turned back on and quickly repositioning as the cameras continued rolling.

The official White House transcript does not reflect Mr. Bush's "Thank you all" at the end of his comments — but those cameras were rolling, and “thank you all” is on the tape. For the record, President-elect Obama ended the Oval Office photo opportunity thanking the President (according to the White House transcript):

“But, again, thank you, Mr. President, for hosting us.”

Will Ferrell taking Bush spoofs to Broadway, HBO

This just might be too soon. I can't imagine spending money on a night with GWB.

NEW YORK (CNN) — Will Ferrell, the man who invented "strategery" and other Bushisms, is taking his spoofs of the 43rd president to Broadway and HBO.

The "Saturday Night Live" veteran will star in "You're Welcome America: A Final Night With George W. Bush" at New York's Cort Theater, with previews in line for Inauguration Day.

The show will take a chronological look at Bush's life — from his college days and time as the governor of Texas to the 2000 race for president and his two terms in office.
