Craig Crawford isn't usually this openly passionate from what I've seen, so he must be awfully upset about this:
Here's the latest, in case you missed it:There is simply no excuse for United States Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts bungling the presidential oath of office to such an extent that Barack Obama might need to do it again, at least in private, to ensure the legality of his inauguration.
Roberts should be impeached and removed from office for this unforgivable error. The Constitution requires certain language for a presidential oath of office. Roberts blew it. And if he doesn't understand such things he should be fired for misfeasance of the first order.
White House Counsel Greg Craig released this statement:One: President Obama has a great sense of humor."We believe that the oath of office was administered effectively and that the President was sworn in appropriately yesterday. But the oath appears in the Constitution itself. And out of an abundance of caution, because there was one word out of sequence, Chief Justice Roberts administered the oath a second time."The pool report has great details of how it took place:
At 7:35 pm, Roberts administered the oath of office again to Obama in the map room.
"We decided it was so much fun..." Obama joked while sitting on a couch.
Obama stood and walked over to make small talk with pool as Roberts donned his black robe.
"Are you ready to take the oath?" Roberts asked.
"I am, and we're going to do it very slowly," Obama replied.
Oath took 25 seconds. After a flawless recitation, Roberts smiled and said, "Congratulations, again."
Obama said, "Thank you, sir."
Smattering of applause.
"All right." Obama said. "The bad news for the pool is there's 12 more balls."

She's got a nice voice, but Etta was betta.
NEW YORK---- Beyonce has revealed the song she plans to serenade the Obamas with in their first dance as America's first couple -- and no, she won't be telling the president to "put a ring on it."
She will sing the Etta James classic "At Last."
Beyonce portrayed the blues great in the recent film "Cadillac Records" and sings the song in that movie.
Beyonce will sing to the Obamas at the Neighborhood Ball Tuesday night.

Exclusive interview from WTHR-TV from November
Awhile ago, I posted about P.E. Obama's "Granny" attending an Inaugural ball. Now we see she proudly and joyfully comes bearing gifts:
A three-legged stool and a traditional Luo oxtail fly whisk are some of the household items that could bring a new feel to the Oval Office, courtesy of Barack Obama's Kenyan grandmother. [...]Quoted in the Standard newspaper Monday, she said she had hoped to bring him a traditional spear and shield from her Luo tribe when she flies to Washington on Friday with some other family members.
"But I have been told that due to security reasons I will not be allowed to board a plane with it," she explained.
With Bush still in charge, she most likely would have been declared an enemy combatant, renditioned, tortured, and forever put on the "terrorist" watch list. Kinda takes the "heart" out of "heartwarming story", doesn't it?
It's dizzying how many feel-good stories have come from one very hope-filled man's quest to become president."The day I was waiting for has finally come... I cannot hide my joy," she said. "I am going to be Kenya's ambassador during the occasion and I will live up to the expectations."
Kenya's Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula will head a government delegation for a pre-inauguration bash organised by African diplomatic missions in the US.
"It is a big feast that will be attended by delegations from many African nations," Wetangula told reporters.
"And because Kenya is the African nation where Obama draws his roots, I have been invited to be the guest speaker at the event," he added.

President-elect Barack Obama's Kenyan stepgrandmother will be among the millions of people in Washington for the Inauguration [...]Imagine how proud she must be. We are, and we're not even related.
Sarah Obama, the stepmother of Obama's Kenyan-born father, will join representatives from the Kenyan government, African Union and African diplomats for an unofficial inaugural ball on Jan. 20 [...]
Obama was not especially close to his African family although he last visited them on a 2006 trip to Kenya. [...]In "Dreams from My Father," Obama described meeting Sarah Obama during his 1988 trip to his father's homeland, earning a handshake as a greeting and awkwardness as they struggled to communicate.
"Our mutual vocabulary exhausted, we stared ruefully down at the dirt until (half-sister) Auma finally returned," Obama writes in "Dreams from My Father."
"And Granny then turned to Auma and said, in a tone I could understand, that it pained her not to be able to speak to the son of her son."
Sarah Obama lives in a house in the western Kenya village of Kogelo without electricity and speaks only the local Luo language and some Swahili.

What is with this man and his "inclusion" fetish? I mean really, first letting any DFH with an internets spy on an inaugural ball and now they're letting in the snot nosed kids? Well. I. Never. /villager
WASHINGTON—President-elect Barack Obama is adding a "Youth Ball" to the parties planned to celebrate his Jan. 20 inauguration.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee said Tuesday the ball for people aged 18 to 35 would celebrate "the role young Americans can play to serve their communities." Tickets will be available for a reduced price of $75. Most inaugural ball tickets are $150.

Webcast? Now that sounds freaking awesome!!!
President-elect Barack Obama's main inaugural ball on Jan. 20 will be dubbed a "Neighborhood Ball" and will focus on ordinary Americans, giving some free tickets to D.C. residents and using technology to link communities around the country with the event.
"This is an Inauguration for all Americans," Mr. Obama said in a statement Monday morning.
"I wanted to make sure that we had an event that would be open to our new neighborhood here in Washington, D.C., and also neighborhoods across the country."
The Obama transition office said in a release that the "Neighborhood ball" would be "the premier event of inauguration evening," and will be held at the Washington Convention Center.

The president-elect will continue the tradition Bush started in 2005 of holding a ball to honor active duty and reserve military.
Guests will also include wounded warriors, families of fallen heroes and spouses of deployed military.
Think of all the families that wouldn't have had to suffer those losses and all that horrific pain had Al Gore been elected.
