I just didn't want anyone to forget that today is the 99th Anniversay of Ronald Reagan's birth, as Fox News was happy to remind me yesterday with a lengthy segment on King Ron. Antigua's highest peak renamed 'Mount Obama'

Antigua's highest mountain officially became "Mount Obama" on Tuesday as the small Caribbean nation celebrated the American president on his birthday and saluted him as a symbol of black achievement.Boy Georgie had a Slime-Mold Beetle named after him.Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer presided over the re-christening ceremony at the base of the mountain, unveiling a stone sculpture and plaque honoring the president as an inspiration in the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda and throughout the Caribbean.
"This great political achievement by Barack Obama resonated with me in a way that I felt compelled to do something symbolic and inspiring," Spencer told the crowd of about 300, including several U.S. officials, at the base of the mountain near the island's southern coast. [...]
The plaque on the rock sculpture at the base of the mountain reads: "Mount Obama, named in honor of the historical election on Nov. 4, 2008, of Barack Hussein Obama, the first black president of the United States of America, as a symbol of excellence, triumph, hope and dignity for all people."

Class acts, both of them. What more appropriate than to have these two share a birthday?President Obama surprised Hearst newspapers columnist Helen Thomas today with cupcakes and a serenading of "happy birthday" to the trail-blazing journalist, 89 years young today.
Thomas wished for world peace, for everyone to be happy, for health care reform and for no more prejudice.

Working lunch on birthday for President Obama

President Obama will celebrate his 48th birthday Tuesday by spending at least part of the day working.Obama will have lunch with Senate Democrats at the White House, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday. They are likely to discuss health care, the economy, energy legislation and the "Cash for Clunkers" program.
"Chuck E. Cheese was booked," Gibbs joked during his daily White House press briefing.
Gibbs did not say how Obama would spend the remainder of his day.
The rest of the day will have to be an improvement. I see gorgeous birthday photos of the First Family in our future.

Georgie Bush had a private birthday party for his fragrant, narcotized little chum Oxy McLimpbaugh yesterday! Weeee! Yes, boys and girls, Rush got a special invitation to go to the Big White House for lunch, at which Georgie surprised his bff with a birthday cake!
Limbaugh noted that while he had salmon over rice, french fries, and a salad for lunch, the President had only a PB&J sandwich.Did Georgie the Wonder Prez also have chocolate milk with a special flexie straw? Tsk! I hope those two enfants terribles remembered to wash their grubby little paws first. No telling where they've been.
I wonder which of these two schmucks was at the receiving end of Pin the Tail on the Donkey.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Vice President-elect
In Chicago today, at Obama Transition HQ, President-elect Obama surprised the Vice President-elect, who will turn 66 tomorrow.

After their weekly lunch, Mr. Obama presented Mr. Biden cupcakes, Obama aides say.Obama lit the candles on the 12 cupcakes and brought them over to Biden.
"You're 12 years old!" Obama joked, referring to the dozen cupcakes.
"Maybe in dog years!" Biden laughed.
Mr. Obama led the staff in singing him "Happy Birthday," and then gifted his loquacious running mate with a Chicago White Sox Hat, a Chicago Bears Hat and a bucket of Garrett's popcorn as gifts.

The McCain campaign is hoping to bury the news in the announcement of his running mate — but the Democrats have a different way of marking the big day, Washington Wire has learned. They plan to celebrate with the septuagenarian all weekend, accusing him of being close with President Bush by throwing “More of the Same” birthday parties on Friday and Saturday in key states like Ohio and Pennsylvania.
A Democratic Party insider said local officials and voters will deliver birthday cakes to the parties, complete with 72 candles, that read “Another Year of More of the Same.”
I could make all the usual jokes about how J Sid would need someone else to blow at all those candles for him, or how if he does blow them out, he'll need oxygen, or about wondering if he'll remember what day it is and having Joe Lieberman whisper it in his ear... but that would be rude and tasteless, so I won't.
They’ll also tie in the festivities to the vice presidential pick, calling the person “a gift to himself,” that person said. At the announcement event in Dayton, Ohio, on Friday, the Democratic National Committee plans to park their mobile billboard that features Bush and McCain hugging.

Obama's Harry Connick, Jr. birthday: Giftless in Chicago

But he won’t be getting a present today.
On Sunday night, Obama’s trip director Marvin Nicholson was getting out of a yellow taxi at his hotel in Chicago with his laundry and Obama’s present in the trunk. As he was greeted by hotel staff, the cab driver drove away with both the clean clothes and the present still in the trunk. The gift, which the campaign won’t reveal, was from senior adviser Robert Gibbs, bodyman Reggie Love and Nicholson.
Nicholson has been calling Chicago taxi companies trying to track the present down. If it’s any consolation to Obama, Harry Connick Jr. will sing him ‘Happy Birthday’ at the fundraiser, the Boston Globe reports.
I wouldn't mind being serenaded by Connick instead of getting a gift. Happy birthday, Barack!
