YouTube Commenter: "No one I know has been laid off"

By GottaLaff

I just had to share this with you. I posted the Henrietta Hughes video on YouTube . Here is a sample of what's going on in Comments there. I'd love to hear your reaction.

HammockTimeNow
We don't owe her jacks***...She alone is responsible for herself! Her son is 40 yrs old....why isn't he working? Why isn't she working? My "ancestors" were NOT here even 100 years ago. BTW-you don't know where her "ancestors" came from anyway! Stop the nonsense already

He was laid off, like most of the workers in this country.

Sorry, but there are over 300million people in this country. Counting adults, MOST workers are NOT laid off. No one I know has been laid off
First I responded that Hammock's personal experiences are irrelevant. I don't know anyone who's been murdered, but that doesn't mean homicides are less prevalent than has been reported.

Next, I explained that I didn't mean "most workers" literally, and that maybe the commenter hadn't noticed the country's unprecedented unemployment numbers. He/she claims they're not unprecedented. I then cited 3 sources/quotes that said otherwise.

Who are these people?

VIDEO-- President Obama's Florida Town Hall Meeting: Homeless Henrietta Hughes

By GottaLaff

This touching moment was included in my earlier post. Now you can see the video. I hope homeless Henrietta Hughes doesn't have to hurt much longer. She currently lives in her car. President Obama promised his staff would talk to her after the meeting. That was after he stepped off the stage and entered the audience to give her a hug.

Via Oliver Willis:

In President Obama’s town hall about the economic crisis in Fort Myers, FL today, a woman named Henrietta Hughes - facing homelesness thanks to the crisis - gave voice to the economic concerns of real Americans being dismissed by the conservative echo chamber and the mainstream media.

Ms. Hughes asked the President: “We need something more than the vehicle and parks to go to. We need our own kitchen and our own bathroom. Please help.”

He should and knowing him, he will.
