In Ramadan, the best dates in Egypt are 'Obama'

Interesting to note that the best dates used to be named after the leader of Hezbollah, and the crappy dates are currently named after George W Bush and others...

CAIRO— For the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Egyptian fruit sellers have named their best dates of the year after President Barack Obama in a sweet tribute to the American leader for his outreach to the Muslim world.

Dates are a traditional food for Ramadan -- which begins Saturday in most of the Islamic world -- since the Prophet Muhammad is said to have used them to break the month's sunrise-to-sunset fast each evening.

"We love Obama and so we named our best dates for him," said Atif Hashim at his busy shop in downtown Cairo.

Huge barrels in his shop were piled with "Obama" dates, selling for just under $2.50 a pound ($5 a kilogram). For an additional dollar, there is an even better date, labeled on a sign as "Super Obama."

That’s some highly suggestive language coming from Ms. Cheney, isn’t it?

In reality, in his speech today, Obama strongly denounced 9/11-denial to an Arab audience, said American troops are in Afghanistan out of “necessity,” because terrorists are “determined to kill as many Americans as they possibly can,” and said America’s commitment to destroying terror networks “will not waver.”

Ooo, Prez O lerves him the terrorists! Obama's a wimp! Obama's gonna get us all killt! The country was safer under BushCo!

You remember BushCo, don't you? That's the bunch of criminal thugs who touted this cretin as their rough, tough, brilliant leader:

And nothing bad, like say, a terrorist attack, happened on his watch... Oh. Never mind.

Seriously, if this is a person who has ambitions to hold public office, then maybe she should realize that all of her little rants end up in those darned archives.

In a towering speech before 4,000 Egyptians in the Grand Hall of Cairo University, and to another 1.4 billion Muslims world-wide, the President was interrupted 30 times by applause and people shouting, "we love you".

What an inexperienced neophyte-y, know-nothing, Muslim Marxist terrorist of a world leader he turned out to be.

Zawahri urges Egyptians to reject "criminal" Obama

After all Bush did for Al Qaeda, you'd think they'd be more welcoming to the U.S. of A.:

Al Qaeda's second-in-command urged Egyptians to reject U.S. President Barack Obama's planned visit, seen as a charm offensive toward Muslims angered by his predecessor's policies, and called him a "criminal."

"Obama ... is not welcome in Egypt," Ayman al-Zawahri, an Egyptian al Qaeda leader, said in a recording posted on an al Qaeda-linked Islamist website on Tuesday.

"Does (a group of) people in Egypt, who are raging flames and fuel, hear my cry," Zawahri said reciting a poem composed during the British occupation of the Arab country. [...]

Obama's "bloody messages have been received and are still being received and they will not be covered by public relations campaigns or theatrical visits or polished words," Zawahri said.

"O' Egypt's free, righteous and honorable people and mujahideen; stand united in the face of this criminal."

Obama "came seeking, through ploy, to win what he had failed to acquire in the battlefield. After the mujahideen foiled America's crusader projects in Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia."

Yeah, right, Obama's the criminal. Zawahri is the poetic hero. And oh yeah, BushCo forgot to conquer the evildoers.

Poll: Mideast Arabs think very highly of Obama

It's been awhile since I posted a poll, and this is a good one.

WASHINGTON — As President Barack Obama prepares to journey to Egypt on June 4 to address the Muslim world, his overtures to the Middle East are paying off in positive feelings towards him from Arab peoples that far outpace the region's critical view of the United States itself, according to a new McClatchy/Ipsos Poll.

The poll of six Arab nations found that residents think that Obama will have a positive impact on the Middle East — a region marked by war, religious disputes, ethnic and sectarian violence — as well as on the United States and the rest of the world.

Obama scored highest in Jordan, where 58 percent of its citizens have a favorable opinion of him, 29 percent have an unfavorable view, 6 percent had no opinion and 7 percent didn't know.

Saudi Arabians have a 53 percent favorable opinion of Obama, followed by 52 percent in the United Arab Emirates. From there, Obama's popularity dips below 50 percent with a 47 percent favorability rating in Kuwait, 43 percent in Lebanon and 35 percent in Egypt. In none of these countries, however, was Obama's unfavorable rating higher than his favorable one.

In contrast, only 38 percent of Saudis have a favorable view of the United States, followed by 36 percent of Jordanians, 34 percent of UAE residents, 31 percent of Lebanese and 22 percent of Egyptians.

Obama Will Make Major Speech in Egypt

They also confirm the trip to Germany that I mentioned earlier.

President Obama will make his promised speech to the Muslim world from Egypt, according to the Washington Post.

"Obama pledged during the campaign to address the Muslim world from a Muslim capital within the first few months of taking office. Picking a site proved challenging for a range of reasons -- from diplomacy to security -- and the decision took longer than expected, with Obama commissioning options from a research team."

WASHINGTON (CNN) – In his first calls to world leaders since becoming President, President Obama called the following Middle East leaders this morning, according to a senior administration official: King Abdullah of Jordan, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Turkish shoemaker of "Bye-Bye Bush Shoe" gets 300,000 orders

The shoe hurled at President George W. Bush has sent sales soaring at the Turkish maker as orders pour in from Iraq, the U.S. and Iran.

The brown, thick-soled “Model 271” may soon be renamed “The Bush Shoe” or “Bye-Bye Bush,” Ramazan Baydan, who owns the Istanbul-based producer Baydan Ayakkabicilik San. & Tic., said in a telephone interview today.

“We’ve been selling these shoes for years but, thanks to Bush, orders are flying in like crazy,” he said. “We’ve even hired an agency to look at television advertising.”[...]

Baydan has received orders for 300,000 pairs of the shoes since the attack, more than four times the number his company sold each year since the model was introduced in 1999. The company plans to employ 100 more staff to meet demand, he said.

There's the answer to our tanking economy, right there. "Bye-Bye Bush" shoe factories. President Obama can call the upswing the "Bush Shoe Economy". The "Shoo, Bush!" economy?

“Model 271” is exported to markets including Iraq, Iran, Syria and Egypt. Customers in Iraq ordered 120,000 pairs this week and some Iraqis offered to set up distribution companies for the shoe, Baydan said.

A company in Maryland ordered 4,000 pairs. See? Instant upswing.
