Post-Obama commentary

MSNBC:

Chuck Todd: McCain could have given this speech, it was like an acceptance speech, but the visual is what's important. The trip would be a success unless he tripped all over himself. McCain didn't need to panic.

Jonathan Alter: He didn't look as tired as he has. Said he felt a little sorry for McCain this week. But Chuck hit a point: it's about the bar of seeming presidential...That's what the Obama team say is standing between Obama and the White House.

Chuck: He's the new guy, will seem riskier. McCain is well known quantity. Obama is grabbing on to the reverse coattails of GW Bush. It's about images.

Andrea Mitchell: Speaking of images, there's Brian Williams walking with Obama getting Obama's impressions of how he did.

Chuck: Michael Deaver would have been proud of this trip. It's amazing to watch the parties switch sides in their capability to present images. Obama trumped McCain everywhere.

John Kerry: 4 years ago, Bush pushed fear. Now people understand differently, are fed up. They understand there's a better set of choices. It's exciting to see how well he is received in the world, a better set of values. His pride in America, the realization that we offer and can restore leadership. It was exciting to have him cheered in another country.

Mika: It served Obama well, the images, etc. His affirmation for his love of the U.S., speaking oas the son of diversity, not as a war hero..it was impressive.

CNN's Candy Crowley was impressed too. "Powerful". There were challenges (NATO, new cooperation) for Europe as well.

CNN anchor: Ronald Reagan, Bobby Kennedy reflected in his speech.

Candy: And JFK. The campaign loves hearing this. But there is some danger, we don't know how U.S. voters see this: too presumptuous? Looking too much like a president? He's trying to avoid that, downplays that. But he gets big U.S. applause when he talks about healing rifts overseas.
