Chart: Rich getting richer, poor getting poorer

By GottaLaff

Via The Nation:

It's always easier to grasp the overwhelming with a visual:

The gap between the top 1% and everyone else hasn't been this bad since the Roaring Twenties

Taegan:

Business Insider: "The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Cliché, sure, but it's also more true than at any time since the Gilded Age."

And by creating that kind of gap, the wealthy can create the America that suits them. Equality goes out the window, the ability to buy candidates is exponentially facilitated, and democracy as we know it, or rather knew it, ceases to exist.

President One-Man Stimulus

By GottaLaff

I can barely make ends meet, but President Obama has created income for an entire city and then some:

Washingtonians have a secret weapon in their battle against the economic downturn, and his name is Barack Obama.

While others wait for help to come in the form of aid from Congress, residents of the greater D.C. area have already seen a one-man stimulus package roll into Union Station — and locals hope the influx of cash and cachet is just beginning.

Destination D.C., the district’s official tourism bureau, doesn’t have hard numbers in yet, but it is fair to say that Inauguration weekend was Christmas in January for retailers, hotels and local attractions. The District’s 95,000 hotel rooms were “booked solid,” said Neil Albert, D.C.’s deputy mayor for economic development, and four of the Smithsonian’s museums had to be closed for purposes of crowd control.

“We had 330,000 people in just one day. That’s more than some museums have in a year,” said Linda St. Thomas, spokeswoman for the Smithsonian. “I don’t recall that [for] the last Inaugurations we closed museums for capacity. In fact, I’m sure we did not.”

But even before the Inauguration, an infusion of Obama-related assistance had already begun for some in the District.

Just ask Nizam Ali, co-owner of Ben’s Chili Bowl.
And you can see Ben's Chili Bowl right here. But you can't eat anything. That would be impossible. See, it's only a video, so don't even think about asking for so much as a taste.

Gee, it occurs to me. With Obama's once-stratospheric numbers plunging drastically, there could be repercussions. D.C. could suddenly go bankrupt! Now we know why the righties call it an Obama Recession. It's all his fault, always was, always will be.

But let's put that aside for now, because we're mature that way:
Obama’s potential impact on the local economy isn’t all about personality, however. Locals are optimistic that the administration’s policies will offer plenty of money-making opportunities, as well. [...]

The new president may even provide an economic boost to his foes.

“It may sound strange given his opinion of lobbyists, but he’ll be the biggest boon for lobbyists that we’ve seen in a number of years,” said Jim Dinegar, president and CEO of the Greater Washington Board of Trade.

“People around the country and around the world need them to be here keeping watch over the proposed regulations,” he said.

Dinegar also expects an Obama administration to mean a “very significant increase in business” for law firms — and an opportunity for accounting firms, associations and labor unions to expand their presence in D.C. as well.
Share the wealth. Uh-oh, D.C. is going all socialist on us. Call Sarah Palin, she'll know what to do.
