Oprah's Harpo Productions e-mails The Political Carnival: Promo Time!

By GottaLaff

http://www.babble.com/CS/blogs/strollerderby/2008/10/16-22/2007-09-29OprahObama.jpg

Of course, we're one of many, but how nice that we're on Oprah's mailing list now. Just for that, it's promo time:
I am writing to you on behalf of Harpo Productions to let you know about Oprah's Primetime special airing this Sunday, December 13 on ABC
at 10:00 - 11:00PM CT.

Her special, Christmas at the White House: An Oprah Primetime Special, is an entertaining hour-long special that will include a one-on-one conversation with the President, marking the first time Oprah has interviewed him since he took office, as well as an exclusive sit-down interview with the First Couple. The special will showcase behind-the-scenes preparations as the White House gets ready for the holiday season.

We at TPC are happy to accommodate Harpo Productions to advertise this event. However, if Oprah ever sits down with Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck, not so much.

VIDEO: CNN begins airing network promo... that calls out Fox News

By GottaLaff

From the Department of Neener Nanner:

Yesterday Paddy posted a video of Rick Sanchez's justifiable outrage over Fox's accusation that CNN didn't cover the 9/12ers.

Today, CNN is using ClusterFox's lies against them.

In the blink of an eye, and using stills from CNN footage of the event, CNN began airing a general network promo specifically calling out the Faux network. Yes, CNN has pulled a dee-lish switcheroo, and they have you-know-who to thank.

To quote Rick Sanchez, "Can you say, 'reality check... mate'?"

Happy face time:

Indulge me: Shameless Frangela plug

By GottaLaff

http://www.frangela.com/images/home/iotw_main.jpg
No wonder I like Frangela so much! [They're an adorably hilarious comedy duo, Frances Callier and Angela V. Shelton, both of The Second City, who have a political talk show on progressive radio out here in California] They give me better strokes than Bill O'Reilly gets from his own loofah.

Here's their response to my latest MySpace message telling them of my last post about them. I hope it wasn't computer generated. That would so destroy the moment:
Who is our favorite????
We think you know it's you!!!!!
Oh, you so rock, we hope you are having a great week and can't thank you enough for your support ;)
you are clearly brilliant.

take care,
frances & angela aka frangela
Okay, maybe that was a little generic... well, except for the "brilliant" part. So just for using that one word, they get another plug. They can be streamed here. They join Stephanie Miller's show every Friday at 8:30 a.m. Pacific, and have their own show on Saturdays, 2-4 pm. Pacific. You can listen to clips from their radio show here.

Shameless promotion of Frangela

By GottaLaff

I now have a running MySpace conversation going with Frangela, a terrific comedy duo, (Frances Callier and Angela V. Shelton, both of The Second City), who have a political talk show on progressive radio out here in California. As a result, I'd like to give them a well-deserved promotion here on TPC. Here is the relevant part of their most recent message to me:
You rock! [...]

We're in Chicago until saturday night - oh and we'll be on from 2 to 6 pm on Sunday - filling in for the time slot they too from us! Ha! And for Mario [Laffy Note: another KTLK host] who is off! But no saturday show . . . strange :)
thank you and have a great weekend,
angela & frances aka frangela
The times are Pacific Daylight, and they can be streamed here.

If you have a chance, give them a listen. If you like what you hear, please let the station know.

VIDEO: Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper preview New Years Eve show

By GottaLaff

I caught this yesterday, and love how Anderson Cooper is completely flummoxed, and entertained, by Kathy "I-Have-No-Self-Control" Griffin.

My favorite parts: Kathy razzes Anderson when he takes his wallet out of his pocket; Kathy makes a crack about "The Best Political Team in Show Business" (not quite TBPNTOTV!!!, but close enough).

Enjoy:

Chuck Todd, NBC political director, also named Chief White House correspondent

By GottaLaff

Chuckolytes Unite behind Chuck Todd, whatever that means.

The image, which I found very amusing, is from a fan site

Chucky gets even more responsibility. Here's the scoop along with his bio:
NBC News announced today that Chuck Todd has been named Chief White House correspondent. Joining him on the beat will be Savannah Guthrie, who has been named White House Correspondent. The announcements were made today by NBC News President Steve Capus, and are effective immediately. [...]

Todd will retain his title as NBC News Political Director in addition to his new duties on the White House beat. As part of this announcement, he is also being named Contributing Editor to "Meet the Press," where he will make frequent appearances to offer reporting and political analysis.

Todd joined NBC News as Political Director in March 2007. In addition to his on-air analysis, Todd has been responsible for all aspects of the network's political coverage, including maintaining contact with the campaigns and serving as the point person for political news and information. He is also the editor of "First Read," NBC's must-read guide to political news and trends in and around Washington, D.C. (www.firstread.msnbc.com), and writes weekly analysis columns for MSNBC.com.

Before joining NBC News, Todd was the Editor-in-Chief of National Journal's "The Hotline," Washington's premier daily briefing on American Politics. In his 15 years working at "The Hotline" or one of its affiliates, Todd became one of Washington's foremost experts on political campaigns of all levels. He served as Editor-in-Chief for six years. He also serves as a contributing editor to "The Atlantic Monthly" where he pens political essays, and he teaches a graduate-level political communications course at the Johns Hopkins University. In December 2005, Todd was featured as one of "Washingtonian's 'Best Of'" journalists.
