Stamp honoring television pioneer Steve Allen unveiled

I am a huge fan of Allen, and thrilled to see him honored this way.

A U.S. Postal Service stamp emblazoned with the likeness of broadcast pioneer Steve Allen was unveiled Tuesday at Arizona State University's Hayden Library in Tempe.

Allen, who died in 2000, was the inaugural host of NBC's "The Tonight Show" and attended ASU in the mid-1940s.

The replica joins a collection of Allen's memorabilia that he donated to the school. The multitalented Allen, who began his broadcasting career as an announcer for KOY-AM (1230) radio station in Phoenix, went on to become a comedian, author and songwriter.
